I think he's tried but no one wants to take those cap dumps without major compensation.

Minnesota Wild signed Yakov Trenin (4 Years / $3,500,000 AAV)
I like the player, but not at that term and AAV. Cut both in half and I'd be ok with them, this is the Foligno extension all over again where Guerin just likes a certain player and bids against himself to get them signed.
Guerin: We'll go $2.5m for 3 years.
Trenin: I was thinking $3m for 3 years.
Guerin: Playing hardball huh? $3.5m for 3 years.
Trenin: I mean I guess..
Guerin: Fine! $3.5m for 4 years!

(NJD/VGK) - Holtz, Schmid for Cotter, 2025 3rd (VGK)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FarhanLuigi</b></div><div>‘Holtz returns top10 pick or we laugh and hang up.’
Sounded a lot like Ducks fans with Zegras.
Too bad that didn’t happen as well</div></div>
Every fan base over values their own talent and there is a lot of bias on this site from fans of all teams. Some of the Jersey fans definitely stand out in this regards (ex. I remember Bubbles noting that Markstrom was only worth a 2nd). With this said, I would have thought Holtz had more value than this. You have to give Kelly McCrimmon and his staff credit, they consistently pull off surprising deals and they always seem a step ahead...

(TOR/DAL) - Ellis, 2024 7th (FLA) for Tanev
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LeafsForLife</b></div><div>It does, however, you don’t become a UFA until July 1st. If you sign a deal with the team that holds your signing rights, you can sign up to an 8-year deal, whereas the longest term you can sign after July 1st is 7 years</div></div>
This isn't true. In order to sign an 8-year deal, the player had to be on your team at the deadline. Dallas was the only team that could sign Tanev to a 8-year deal.
They could have done a sign-and-trade like Calgary/Florida did with Tkachuk and LA/Winnipeg did with Dubois to give him that 8th year, but since the trade is official, the most they can sign him for is 7 years.

(CBJ/STL) - Texier for 2025 4th (STL)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>von_Rantala</b></div><div>He wanted to close to his family. He first sign in here Finland, but wanted to go Switzerland when its was closer to his family. He is loyal type of guy and have big heart. I continue following his career now in St. Louis. He has potential to be solid 2-3 two way liner. Hopefully in St. Louis he get real chance to develop and get ice time. I think CLB should have got second round pic on Tex, but ofc i am bit biaset.</div></div>
This is why I wished MTL had acquired him.
A 2nd would have been difficult. If would have tried to swap him for another young underachiever, or at least a depth NHLer (which a 4th rounder will probably never become).

(EDM/PHI) - 2025 1st (EDM) for 2024 1st (FLA)
GREAT trade by Briere. Next year's draft is said to be much better. Worst case you get the same pick (32nd) in a better draft. Realistic best case scenario the pick is somewhere in the 23-27 range. The top 12 protection was kind of strange. I was expecting the condition to be that Edmonton could decide which year or at least top 16 protected.
The Flyers now have the following picks in the 2025 draft:
First round - Phil, Col, Edm
Second round - Phil, Clb, Ana (Could easily be three early 2nds)
Third round - Phi, Min

9 days ago, Ty Dellandrea was also traded for a 4th round pick in 2025.
The question I have is whether Texier is better than Dellandrea.
IMO, the answer is yes.
St. Louis wins the trade.

(OTT/BOS) - Kastelic, Korpisalo, 2024 1st (BOS) for Ullmark
Unless the sens change how they play in front of their goalies it doesn't matter who's in net.
Talbot:
Flames 2.63gaa 919sv
Minny 2 seasons, 2.7gaa, 914sv average
OTT 2.93gaa 898sv
LA 2.5gaa 913sv
Korpisalo:
CLB 3.13gaa 913sv
Ott 3.27gaa 890sv
Gustavsson
OTT 3.55gaa 892
MIN 2.10gaa 930sv
MIN 3.06gaa 899sv
Sens last 4 years hang goalies out to dry. They leave, they have better stats. Green better do something or Ullmark is getting a sub 900 sv. I wanted to see what korpi could do with better team play, and I'll get to see it on Boston. 910 sv% for korpi incoming lol

i like this for both teams
korpi last season was rough but i can see him rebounding under swayman as a backup. plus they get a decent bottom six forward and a first round pick to boot
meanwhile ullmark is a massive upgrade as a starter and a good mentor for sogaard

Stuart Skinner is a different kind of man when EDM is put against the wall.
In games 4-7 in the playoffs the dude is 10-0-0 with SV% over .940 and GAA less than 1.5.

So the Caps will be paying both Dubois & Tom Wilson $15M AAV combined until 2031…no wonder why they bought this website.
