Thought the number would start with an 8, tidy work by Kent Hughes. Hope he continues to progress

More likely than not this is a great deal, but there is that 10% chance that this absolutely blows up in Hughes face

Love this for Montreal. They are gonna be a scary team in a couple of years with cap space to go after major players via trade or free agency

Kent Hughes continues his quest to become the best GM in the league. Signing Slaf for less than caufield is incredible.

Canadiens fans must feel good, top 3 forwards all locked long term and under 8m each. This team will be contender in few years

Good signing. Obviously some risk but upside is more than downside. He has more room to grow.

Montour just signed a similar contract $7.1 x 7 years and he's had 1 season over 40 points and never put up 20 goals.

Low risk, especially if there isn’t a lot of bonus money.

Montour is a defenceman, you can't compare point production with a forward contract.

But in any case, while there is some risk to this, the upside potential is huge and the Canadiens already have a lot riding on Slafkovsky becoming a top-tier winger, so I don't see the risks as out of line. If Slaf doesn't become a star, the rebuild has bigger problems than him being overpaid.
