Lot of talent still available (Stiga, Chernyshov, etc.) but Philly likely gets a higher pick next year. Fair deal IMO.

Really interesting trade, we don’t see it a lot in hockey but I like the gamble for Philly, Edmonton likely will get a pick in the mid 20’s next year

All fun and games til Oilers lose in the first round next year 😂

In reality though it’s gonna be like pick #25 or smth like that

I’m sure EDM has the option to send their 2026 1st to PHI instead, if that were to be the case.

Have exact conditions for the pick been established yet though? Is it like the Conditional 2nd CBJ gave up in the Provorov trade where Oilers could simply choose which pick to give up? Or is it like other trades where the pick is Top X Protected and if it lies in that Protected range Oilers can send the 2026 1st?

But that wouldn't affect the pick compared to if they lose in the finals. The only problem for Edmonton would be if they do poorly in the regular season.

Only way this is fair for Edmonton is if they win the Cup and the 1st ends up at #32.

Flyers win.

there is no way to make this fair for EDM unless they get really lucky and the pick out performs.

Next year is a better draft.
No matter where the pick lands it has more value.

Top 12 protection is nowhere close to making this fair SMH.

Even then, 2025 should be a deeper draft

GREAT trade by Briere. Next year's draft is said to be much better. Worst case you get the same pick (32nd) in a better draft. Realistic best case scenario the pick is somewhere in the 23-27 range. The top 12 protection was kind of strange. I was expecting the condition to be that Edmonton could decide which year or at least top 16 protected.

The Flyers now have the following picks in the 2025 draft:
First round - Phil, Col, Edm
Second round - Phil, Clb, Ana (Could easily be three early 2nds)
Third round - Phi, Min

Good trade from PHI. Is this tie EDM GM hands next season a bit? If/when season is strong for EDM and they want to trade rent player in trade deadline they maybe hesitant to move 1rnd round pick, because then PHI would get unprotected first round pick for 2026. Interesting cool

Edmonton benefits by getting to pick a year earlier — theoretically O’Reilly should be NHL-ready a year before the guy they would have picked next year — but unless they win the cup next year the pick is guaranteed to be earlier in the round, potentially much earlier. Either they really love O’Reilly or they don’t realize that making it to game 7 of the cup final this year doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll be anywhere close next year.
