<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>You don’t think if Stecher was a good partner for Hughes Vancouver would keep him? Why would he work with Rielly any differently</div></div>
the main reason Vancouver moved him was primarily money. I could see Stetcher and Rielly working out. Heck fun fact Hughes-Stetcher did better statistically than Hughes-Tanev. No joke lul.

Small Changes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>linehan10</b></div><div>a cap dump, Engvall, and a prospect who can’t crack the lineup and a second round pick does not equal Anderson nor Nutivaara alone, I’d imagine. It’s like when islander fans initially felt they could include Boychuk in a Laine trade, for example</div></div>
Dude if Johnsson is a cap dump so is Nutivaara. So if Johnsson=Nutivaara, because Johnsson does hold more value between the two but it equals out because the his cap hit is higher, then its Engvall+2nd for Anderson+4th, which is a fair trade.
Engvall=4th and Anderson=3rd, so the leafs are actually overpaying a bit here imo. Andersson had a bad season and had a ton of injuries. I don't think he is worth much more then Johnsson at this point. Really the only reason he would be is because he is an RFA, however his qualifying offer is 2.1 million which could be a bit high after last season.

More Scoring and a Goalie
For the record, I am on board with all of these UFA signings. All seem like realistic value acquisitions by the Canes front office.

What kind of deal will Holtby get with so many goalies available
I think a short-term deal coming in between $3.5M and $4M is going to be most likely. Holtby hasn't been good enough to earn a long-term deal, and the flat cap makes it hard for a team to overpay for him. A shorter deal to either re-establish his good name or to get beyond the flat cap era and cash in is probably best for all parties involved.

Trade with New Jersey
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aadoyle</b></div><div>NJ could move him as this UFA market coming up will be full of defenseman and with all that cap room they can grab 1 or 2 potentials (Hamonic, Brodie, Barrie, etc).
I would say a fair deal would be (Kapenan + Der-Arguchintsev + Howell+4th) for him as the marlies have a tonne of defenseman and can afford to move one</div></div>
They have Palmeiri and Gusev as RW, and overpaying vet UFAs just to finish near the bottom of the league doesn't seem like a great strategy.
I'd rather keep Kapanen and dermott (Severson coming in means Dermott is gone). Just my opinion.

No one who's giving up a D is gonna want one back. There's your problem. Take Carolina for example, we have 7 guys right now to go into 6 spots, if we trade away (example) Haydn Fleury, we aren't gonna want a D man back.

MIN FLA Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PakNation7</b></div><div>If the leafs want a 1RHD they are going to have to move one of there "Big 4" which idt they want to do. When you think about it how many teams in the NHL have 2 legit #1 defencemen? Maybe 6 (Boston, Carolina, Columbus, Nashville, San Jose and St. Louis) the rest of the good teams have just the one top defencemen with a solid top 4 (Think Colorado, Dallas, Islanders, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Washington). For the Leafs having a solid second pairing defensemen with Rielly who the Leafs consider their #1 defensemen is exactly what Dubas and company should be aiming to accomplish this offseason. That in tandem with the overall solid pairing of Muzzin-Holl and hopeful further development of Dermott-Sandin should be an above serviceable defense corps to compliment the Leafs forward core.</div></div>

It was reported that the Leafs wanted to move Marner at the deadline but no one wanted him, so it's not a possibility to trade him. Maybe they could send Nylander for Ellis or Fox. Someone has been frequently offersheeting Cernak who is a top 4 guy but they will need to move a big guy out for that too. Honestly the stats say Holl is really good defensively & he's playing like a number 1 defenseman, he was getting a bit overwhelmed during the last few weeks but if he keeps playing like this, just picking up DeMelo would be fine.
