Play a player who's been in the AHL and the NHL on the first pair. Yep.

He played a good portion of last year with Ekman-Larsson if you care to dig deeper, especially just before the season ended. Plus, if you check out Sean Tierney’s defensive pairings charts on Twitter all of Arizona’s pairings that plotted in “good” had Lyubushkin on them. Not to mention Lyubushkin is an absolute bulldozer when it comes to hitting.

I don't really mind the trade suggestion at all it just doesn't really solve anything from a Leafs perspective other than cap space and additional depth on the blue line . Lyubushkin certainly isn't a top pairing defensman.

Then why is he being included in a trade for a forward that's basically the same as the forward they're trading for?

Johnsson and Hinostroza are basically on par with each other, other then Vinny being a center and a more defensive forward. So to make a lateral trade Phoenix also has to include a decent defenceman?

Acquire a guy to play top pair then give him pretty well league minimum (which wouldn't be possible as his qualifying offer alone would be a raise from the $874K he made last year).

Arizona and the guys agent comes off looking pretty dumb in this scenario.
