Something Different

Description
Ristolainen adds physicality from the backend, yes I know he has his faults certainly possession wise, but having someone on the backend who can play upwards of 20-22 minutes a night and is right handed is huge for the Leafs. I feel being paired with Rielly who can skate and advance the puck will allow Ristolainen to sit back and simply dish out pain unto opposing players.

Larsson is underratedly one of the best defensive forwards in the game and would be a huge addition to the bottom six. I feel a combination of Larsson, Kerfoot and Mikheyev (a big body who holds onto the puck well) could be a difficult line for opposing teams top lines to play against.

Mittelstadt has the potential is breakout offensively playing with other high end players and not having to center his own line. Couple that with a cheap contract and he should make for a good bargain.

Reasoning?

Also, this wouldn't be my first choice of an offseason just playing around with ideas

What would you think the Leafs would need to add?

Not a fan of RR or his salary. Even with the retention, I'm passing on this.

Like your assessment of Risto. I've thought he is one player that could do better with a fresh start elsewhere. As a Leaf fan, I would like him on my team if his cap could fit in.

I'm not the biggest Risto fan either but its hard to argue that the Leafs would not benefit from a RHD that can play minimum 20 minutes a night against opposing teams top players and average around 200 hits, 120 blocks a year. Pair him with Rielly and I think they could make a solid duo. Plus, they would not even have to take the toughest match ups as Muzzin and Holl could face the stiffest competition.

A lot of people do not like Risto's plus/minus but put Rielly on Buffalo for the last 6 years and idt his would be much better. Plus/Minus is a useless stat, it is all team and line mate relative.

I hate this question. I dont want to trade mittelstadt within the division for depth. I dont see a fit that is reasonable that makes sense to move on from him

That's fair. This trade simply comes down to how Botterill and Co. view Mittelstadt and if they are ready to move on or not.

Sabres aren't giving up on Middelstadt yet, and trading BOTH kap and Mango for 1 d-man, especially a very flawed one like Risto, is probably not a great idea. Do Risto for Mango and add picks to even it out.

ristolinen is just not what the leafs need. Only 1 defenseman the leafs would want is Jokiharju as he and lehtonen played together in the SHL.
