For Saros? Well, if Byfield isn't an option, it'd have to be someone reasonably similar. Y'all kind of traded away the best candidate asset already to bring in PLD.

I'm just saying that if you inquire after high value assets and get warned off because of their being high value, it's kind of a dick move to complain about the price you get quoted afterward. Y'all <strong>were</strong> warned, after all.
An example of a roles-reversed exchange:
CBJ: "We'd like to have Michkov in union blue; what'd it take?"
PHI: "He's a future franchise player; we're not moving him."
CBJ: "Oh, c'mon, don't be like that. Really. What would it take?"
PHI: "Another franchise player - say, like, Fantilli or something."
CBJ: "OMG HOW DARE YOU SPEAK THE NAME OF FANTILLI we'd only offer Dumais and a 2nd tops."

I'd much rather be a team getting assets to retain on Coyle to ship him to a contender than be the team paying to acquire him. He's great, but he just doesn't fit CBJ's needs/timeline.</div></div>
I do think we need more glue guy leadership types, and I suspect he might be able to fill such a role; that's pretty much the beginning and end of any interest I would have in him. If he doesn't have that, I don't have the interest.

We'll call that a "maybe" from the Jackets; Coyle <strong>might</strong> be the sort of vet we could use more of but I'm not yet certain. (I'm just kind of personally tunnelvisioned towards finding a second-pairing blueliner with the flexibility we have... :) )

Texier isn't someone to dump for culture reasons; you actually keep him if that's your objective. And that Laine return is one we'd likely regret in very short order.

Those trades kind of run the gamut. The Merzlikins trade is way too good for us, the Laine trade is meh, and the Gaudreau trade is terrible for us. And I don't want us to be the ones paying Reinhart stupid money for a career year; I'd rather we just keep Johnny.

I think that's close for the Jackets but ultimately would want something a little bit more coming back for all the extra retention.

I would personally be more inclined to keep Marchenko, but that's got a lot to do with my believing a lot more in Sillinger and Voronkov as our future centers behind Fantilli and so I'm less worried about filling that position out. It's probably fair, though. I'd be quite disappointed at the news if this actually went through but I'd likely get over it after some time. Probably. Maybe. Hopefully.

Take out Kuemper and that would be considered for Laine, but probably ultimately still turned down. If you want to do a Kuemper swap with Columbus, it's Elvis you're taking back; Laine is not considered a cap dump here and we're not in any hurry to get rid of him.

Sign Lindholm Thin out the wingers
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DopeGM</b></div><div>I believe this team has too many wingers. Was reading a Portzline article last night that said the same thing. If you draft Lindstrom, how does he develop into anything but a third liner with all the depth? Catton might bust trying to get through all this depth. You can have too many prospects and players to develop in my opinion.
When I think about teams developing all of the right pieces, and I look at this team, I see a glaring need for defencemen that can suppress the other team. I don’t follow the prospects closely but Silayev looks perfect for that role.
Don’t buyout Elvis! Those extra three years are when the Jackets are going to be great!</div></div>
We do have a lot of wingers, and trading from that strength to build up the defense would therefore be a good idea. But that doesn't appear to be what you've done with this AGM; in particular, that Chinakhov trade is a very poor one for the Jackets. We'd be better off targeting a good defensive second-pairing guy somewhere (free agency or trade) and letting the blueliners we already have in the pipeline develop and force their way onto the team.

Laine's our house money; he's unlikely to be traded unless we get back the sort of package one would expect for a top-line scoring winger, because we're not in any particular rush to move on so we might as well demand that much.

We'd much rather keep Gudbranson; he's been very effective as a glue guy, and not half bad as a bottom pairing blueliner, and Robertson's injury history isn't one we'd want to mess with.
And that's incredibly poor value for Texier.

Maybe if Nylander was a franchise player I'd agree. As is I'm not all that convinced. He had one hell of a season, and sure I'd love to add him, but he's 28 - don't expect him to be putting up more 90+ point seasons going forward. The retention makes that a lot more palatable, but even then we're creating a severe leadership vacuum here such that I'm not sure we'd even get anything out of those years of his. So I don't really see it as a no-brainer myself.

If you want Laine, you'll need to put up the sort of package you'd expect to pay for a top-line scoring winger. The reason why is because that's what he's been while he's been here (PPG or near-PPG, even), and we don't have any cap pressure here, so there's no rush to get rid of him; we can just wait and see if he bounces back and if he does reap the benefits pretty much for free.
