It doesn’t really make sense for the Hawks to sign a LD for more than $1.5 million on a one year deal or to sign a RD for more than a one year deal. Jones, Murphy, Vlasic, and Korchinski are the top four for the next two years, and we don’t want to block Del Mastro, Kaiser, Rinzel, or Levshunov (if we take him) out of the NHL.

Even if we don’t strike out, I’d be happy to take that deal and keep Ceci as a seventh defender (or buy him out as a solid to the player). $3.25 million for one year is fairly cheap to get a 2nd round pick IMO.

Trade 10th overall for these guys YEA or NAY
I don’t think 10 is fair value for Vlasic— I’d say he’s worth about #5 or #6 given his play last year, potential, and contract— but you’d have to massively overpay to get him. He’s the first piece of the Hawks rebuild (other than Bedard of course) to become a star, and the psychological effect of trading him less than two months after he signed an extension on the team, prospects, and fans would be very large.

I'm happy with this offseason if the Hawks take Demidov at #2, but I don't think Carrier is good enough to justify clogging up the RD ranks for Levshunov and Rinzel if we take Levshunov.

I assume the Hawks trade was meant more as a "any team for anything" trade, but I don't think the Hawks would have any interest in any of those guys. We have plenty of RFAs of our own. As for Marcel Marcel, it's going to take a 2nd round pick to get his name alone.

That's true-- being right at the floor could cause issues in case of injury too. I don't think that's a big factor, though, because it would be really easy to sign someone to a multimillion dollar deal and send them to the AHL midesason or to be a middleman on a trade for basically nothing. Put another way, they might as well use the cap space they have, but they're now close enough to the cap floor where spending more money isn't really any sort of concern.

I have absolutely no problems with signing a RD, although I'd be surprised to see one signed for three years if the Hawks take Levshunov. There's no clear internal candidate to join the team this year, although Rinzel and Levshunov could both be NHL ready next year. Worst case, Murphy with retention should have plenty of suitors. I agree that there will be defensive injuries, but you don't sign a guy to a 2x$3 million contract to start the season in Rockford, and I would hate it if Del Mastro or Kaiser spend time in the AHL instead of the NHL only beause we don't have space for them in the NHL. I'd much rather resign Phillips or even Roos to a two way deal (or to risk losing to waivers) and save the spot for Del Mastro or Kaiserwhen they're ready.

If Mikheyev got a 2nd, the theoretically price for Campbell is (at minimum) 3 2nd round picks. Really, I think the lightest trade the Hawks consider is 2 1sts and Campbell for 2 2nds. More likely, he gets bought out. The Hawks have already indicated that both Entwistle and Reese Johnson aren't coming back. I'd also be shocked if the Hawks gave Raddysh $1.5 million, if they only gave Reichel $1.2 million per year.

It does make the forward group a little crowded but Id imagine were just letting a lot of our RFAs walk and using these guys to improve the depth</div></div>
With Mikheyev, we're $5.25 million below the cap floor. That's without counting Sam Lafferty, whoever end up as 3rd pairing defense, or players 21-23 on the roster. We won't have to sign a big name free agent to hit the cap floor. But I suppose even if we sign Teuvo we've only got 13 forwards, and it's unlikely that each healthy all season long. If Hayes, Dach, Lardis, or anyone else in Rockford earns a promotion we could presumably trade Hall, Donato, or Athanasiou. I 'd be surprised to see two more big forward acquisitions, but I suppose one makes sense.

I’d be shocked if the Hawks signed a LD, let alone to a multi year deal. Del Mastro and Kaiser could each see NHL time this year but certainly by next year, and if Reilly signs that contact he isn’t good enough to justify blocking them.

The Hawks won’t pay for Kampf— you’d have to pay to get rid of him— and the 5th round picks coming back don’t really do much for the Hawks, who are inundated with picks. I’d counter #23 and Kampf for #34 and #67, but I’d probably replace #67 with #50 if that got the trade done. If Mikheyev waives and that trade goes through, though, I think the Hawks will have too many guys to look for a Kampf trade, and you’d have to overpay to send him to Chicago.

I wonder if this deal means we don’t sign Teuvo or any other forward to more than like a $1.5 million, one year contract. Nazar may start the year in Rockford, but Landon Slaggert should be in the NHL, and if any prospects are ready to come from Rockford the room gets very crowded.

Anderson is a bad contract. You’d have to pay both to dump him and to get Hall. I don’t know exactly how good Struble is, but he’s a left handed defenseman, which is the one place where Hawks have a wealth of young players and prospects. For Struble to be good enough to accept, he’d have to be good enough that you wouldn’t trade him.

Moving Draisaitl and Nurse
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jco5ta5</b></div><div>That's a bit rich bud. He was great and he may still improve but he's not a franchise defenseman like you're suggesting here with the top 5 pick. Nurse also won't cost "multiple 1sts" that is absurd. PLD got traded 1 to 1 with zero retention.
That said: mw6 there really is no way you're getting Foligno who is basically the team's captain and Vlasic who is the team's current best defenseman and put up pretty solid metrics on a horrific D corp last year in his rookie season. If he hadn't had a few extra games prior to this season already he would've been talked about in the Calder voting, but he didn't qualify. Nurse and Jones are arguably two of the worst contracts in the league. No way Chicago wants or needs him.
For everyone else reading this post, Davidson is building a team of his own vision. Anything he's acquired, signed, or drafted is likely OFF the table. He appears very calculated in his moves so acquiring and signing Foligno and signing Vlasic to 6 years is purposeful and he's not going to then just flip them for parts. I encourage you before you make an ACGM involving Chicago, it shouldn't involve any Davidson pieces.</div></div>
I strongly disagree on being a franchise defenseman. Last season, the Hawks were outscored 51-50 at 5v5 with Vlasic on the ice. I don’t have the numbers for 5v5 without Vlasic, but if we include all 5v5 goals with a goalie pulled, the Hawks were out scored 89-186 without Vlasic. That’s a goal share of 49% vs 32%. He was one of the best defensive defenseman in the league last season. He’s already a top-pairing defenseman, if not a #1 defenseman. But he was one game away from being a rookie last season; it’s very likely that he gets better; and he’s signed for 6 years at $4.67 million per year, which would become one of the best contracts in the league if he continues to develop even a little bit more. I’d take that over Sam Dickinson or Zeev Buium.

That makes a ton of sense, all good. For what it’s worth, If we were trading the other Vlasic I’d still decline but that’s in the top 50% of trades proposed involving the Hawks in terms of being balanced.

The price to get Vlasic starts with a top 5 pick (or equivalent value). Getting rid of Nurse is going to cost multiple first round picks (or equivalent value). The other three players in the deal are basically meaningless relative to Vlasic and Nurse. Get #1 overall from San Jose and add it, and the Hawks might accept.

You have the Hawks signing seven defenseman through 25-26 not counting EDM, Kaiser, Allen, Rinzel, or any other prospect. There’s a lot wrong with rushing the rebuild this much, but that’s the most glaring, no possible justification for the move.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>brdalesandro</b></div><div>What's the reasoning behind Philly trading #12 and Johansen for 18? Philly is is burying him in the AHL all season or buying him out if he's healthy. I don't think they trade back, especially when KH is the exact type of player they need down the center. They'll have plenty of space when they buyout Atkinson and Cal P tomorrow that the RJ commitment is nothing if he's buried in the minors.</div></div>
As a Hawks fan I’d love that, but even if Philadelphia wanted to pay to get rid of Johansen , moving from #12 to #18 is overpaying for cap space. A 2nd round pick would be on the high end for Johansen and shouldn’t be enough to move from #18 to #12.

I think Davidson has mostly avoided driving hard bargains for cap dumps, which I think is the right decision. I’d rather get a 2nd and 3rd with Mikheyev than not make the trade, and there are other teams with cap space to offer.

I’d accept. He projects as roughly a 40 PPG player; his value is probably $3-4 million per year. 2 end round picks is fair for the excess contract value. We need to pick up a couple of middle six forwards for short term this offseason anyways; may as well put a bit of extra cap space to good use.

Palmeiri has been better than Athanasiou over the past few years, and each is only signed for one more year. Even if we assume both players will leash an equally next year, you’re saving $2.25 million against the cap in exchange for a 1st round pick. Hawks would trade Athanasiou with retention for a 1st round pick even without getting Palmeri back.
