No team is buying any crap contracts. The picks need to be going the other way.

Did you read the first part of what you quoted?
The Senators literally moved Joseph, to sign Pinto.
Your original trade proposal had Pinto AND Joseph to the Habs.
If the Senators were moving Pinto, they had no reason to move Joseph.
Learn how cap economics work.

I editted, but i honestly think you are overvaluing what Philly has.
A player entering his UFA year in TK.
A 3rd line center.
The first and second alone are worth that. Gamble on a young center to even the salary and have a decent center to play with Michkov.

Just fiddling. Trading Bath instead could also work without taking Zamula but Flyer's center depth is a little lack luster, why I went with Norris.
Throw in other prospects or picks or whatever you think would even out a player entering his UFA year and a 3C center.
Still have the Yost tweet in my mind and if it could still be a thing.

Staois the Clown
It costs money to get rid of salary. That is why Staois had to pay to get rid of Joseph.
It's baffling how many people do not understand that concept. It doesn't matter if the person is worth their cap hit or not, it matters if the team that has them can afford to keep them.
The only way Staois would have gotten more for Chychrun is if he was moved at this years deadline (expect Washington to do so if they are out of the playoffs). That would have been a distraction all year. He wasn't resigning when the team had already committed to Chabot and Sanderson on the left side. Once Chych resigns for 6-8M next year he is going to have zero value. Right handed defensemen are a premium. Having Jensen signed for 2 years and can provide the same type of defensive awareness as Zub rounds out the defense nicely. He'll be a great veteran partner for Kleven IMO.
Ottawa's draft was fine. They went for a well rounded defenseman that plays the right side. I prefer that to a defenseman that is just focused on offense. Only time will actually tell if they made the right choice. Remember, people were harping that the Senators took Sanderson instead of Drysdale and Tkachuk instead of Zadina. Yakemchuk is a Senator now and if you are a fan of the team, you should be cheering for his success.
Is this team a Stanley Cup contender? No. But it can push for a wild card spot and is still young. This is Staois's first year. Give him time to fix things.

It's a 4th line. It'll play 5 minutes a game and that's it.
Crookshank & Osptachuk will push for playing time.
Gregor will score against the Leafs every game, so there is that as well.

He already added Adam Gaudette at league min today. Expect him to compete for the 4C spot.
He also added Flilip Roos to push Kleven with Davies.
Don't expect more than 2 way, league min vets at this point.

why not go for pinto
Pinto's agent basically said his client is willing accept offer sheets to get a deal done.
If the offer sheet is less than $6M, expect the Senators to match.
If the offer sheet is $6 - 6,5M expect the Senators to contemplate depending on the term involved, but would likely match.
If the offer sheet is above $6.5M, the Senators will probably take the 1rst and 3rd round pick, barring away to move Norris for anything.

Reinbacher for Pinto 1 for 1.
Or go ahead and offer sheet him for +$6M to give up a 1rst and 3rd next year.

Couple Moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ross_Johnston</b></div><div>Bad take</div></div>
No.
Ask yourself, why would a team move a certain player?
For Pinto, a reasonable explanation can be contract talks breaking down and the team can't afford what he is asking for. Therefore he gets shopped and any team that has a hole at middle 6 center and can afford to pay him $5-6M would be interested in acquiring him. That, IMO, is about 10 to 15 teams.
Why would the Senators move Joseph?
If it isn't to make room for Pinto, then the ONLY other reason is to improve their team.
The Senators are not rebuilding, they have no interest in acquiring picks, so any trade is dollar in dollar out.
So is Armia = Joseph? Not by a long shot, pay for the difference.
If Pinto, and removing the cap hit of Armia is your only priority, drop Joseph from the trade all together and you might be able to swing Reinbacher, Dvorak 1/2 retained for Pinto and pick outside of the top 100.

The only reason to move Joseph for the Senators is to sign Pinto. If a team is trading for both of them, expect to pay for both.

What the opening night roster looks like so far with Pinto signed
Expect Joseph to be moved somewhere, sometime to sign Pinto.
Call up Crookshank/Reinhart/Highmore (LW) and Pilon/Ostapchuk (C) to play with Gregor (RW) on the forth line. Move Amadio to RW 3rd line and you have opening night roster barring any blockbuster trades or significant injuries.

Pinto is currently worth a first and a third minimum.
Taking on Joel Armia 1/2 retained is a second.
Joseph is worth about a 3rd
Reinhart is worth about a 7th (but I doubt Ottawa is trading him, he is a decent depth bottom 6 guy on league min).
so 1 first, a second, 2 thirds, Joel Armia for Pinto & Joseph.
So I would go Reinbacher (for the overpay, other teams are interested, Senators don't need to sell), Florian Xhekaj (for the lols), a 2nd Rounder in 2025, Dvorak 1/2 retained (instead of Armia) for Pinto and Joseph and the Senators will throw in a 6th to be nice.

Storlarz/Woll need to drop significantly.

Jensen was a second pair RD on a playoff team.
This deal was probably finalized awhile ago and the teams waited for the signing bonuses to clear ($2M for Jensen, $1M for Chych. Ottawa saves a $1M real money). If there was a better deal available, Ottawa would have already taken it.
