Staois the Clown

Description
I do not understand the support for Staois. Might have arguably had a worse draft then in 2021, let Kelly and Brannstrom go for free (Brannstrom makes more sense), Chychrun for a aging dman that has struggled the past 2 seasons and the Caps were trying to dump and we got a 3rd... woo. Cherry on top, trade Joseph and a 3rd for FC when Joseph was easily worth his cap hit and responsible defensively and speedy. For the Joseph comparison, no one can argue he is better then Goodrow and what did the Rangers pay to give him up? Nothing.

The only props Staois gets is the Ullmark trade. Even though there is still a hole in 4C (Kastelic) and after seeing these other trades, Staois still paid too much. I could be wrong but I'm thinking teams were only willing to give up a 2nd or a 3rd for Ullmark since the Bruins needed to trade him.

Anyways, I hope everyone comes to this realization that Staois is not prepared to be an NHL GM and Andlaur gets rid of his friend sooner rather than later. Just remember PD and DJ were friends and everyone eventually hated that. Get ready for another decade of mediocre hockey. The only chance this team has is if Ullmark steals games.

take a chill pill my man. you know Mary Jane is legal here might wanna have a little smoke. the roster looks great we've got a vezina winning goalie. basically another Zub in Jenson and solid depth pieces. we had to trade Joseph to make it easier to sign more depth pieces and Pinto. off season just started lets hope they sign shattenkirk for our third pair and more depth pieces upfront.

Chabot, Sanderson, Chychrun and Branny are all similar style LD. They need more defensive specialists, which they got in Jensen.

They upgraded their goaltending and when Pinto is signed they will have a very good top 9 and a respectable top 4 with a 1A goalie. They brought in veterans who have won before for depth.

They wont win the cup, but they will field a very respectable team.

Pierre Dorion was by far one of the worst GMs in the league. He rushed the rebuild by mortgaging the farm of draft picks with no reassurances Debrincat or Chychrun would resign. His restrictions imposed by Melnyk made it even more impossible to do anything. Give Staios time to reset things.

That’s the thing, they don’t have time. Brady ain’t sticking around for another losing season. If they’re not in playoff contention by Christmas, Brady is asking out.

It costs money to get rid of salary. That is why Staois had to pay to get rid of Joseph.

It's baffling how many people do not understand that concept. It doesn't matter if the person is worth their cap hit or not, it matters if the team that has them can afford to keep them.

The only way Staois would have gotten more for Chychrun is if he was moved at this years deadline (expect Washington to do so if they are out of the playoffs). That would have been a distraction all year. He wasn't resigning when the team had already committed to Chabot and Sanderson on the left side. Once Chych resigns for 6-8M next year he is going to have zero value. Right handed defensemen are a premium. Having Jensen signed for 2 years and can provide the same type of defensive awareness as Zub rounds out the defense nicely. He'll be a great veteran partner for Kleven IMO.

Ottawa's draft was fine. They went for a well rounded defenseman that plays the right side. I prefer that to a defenseman that is just focused on offense. Only time will actually tell if they made the right choice. Remember, people were harping that the Senators took Sanderson instead of Drysdale and Tkachuk instead of Zadina. Yakemchuk is a Senator now and if you are a fan of the team, you should be cheering for his success.

Is this team a Stanley Cup contender? No. But it can push for a wild card spot and is still young. This is Staois's first year. Give him time to fix things.

Drafting is basically all scouting and we have the same scouts that Dorion had which is why we saw what we saw. I really hope to god he hires his own team.

It's based on people on the internet saying he wants out.

You know everything on the Internet is true.

The moves are completely fine. Chychrun & Joseph were gone this offseason, that was a foregone conclusion. The signings are not egregious overpays like a lot of the deals yesterday were. Every move has served a purpose, and Staios has done exactly what he said he was going to do.

Don't agree about the draft at all. I thought that there were better options than Yakemchuk, but it's not like it was a massive reach. The Eliasson pick was horrible, but they had a great 4th round. Ellinas was arguably his team's playoff MVP, with an NHL projectable skillset. Javon Moore is one of the most interesting later round picks in the whole draft, Blake Montgomery is right there two. Elite prospects had them ranked 60th and 61st in their rankings, which would put them as late second rounders by their standards.

That said, I've mostly hated what he's done on the pro hockey side. The Ullmark deal is a home run, absolutely hate signing Perron to that deal (screams Alex Burrows to me tbh). The Amadio deal I think is pretty reasonable, very versatile player. Got his pants pulled down on the Chychrun trade, no excuses, even if I like Nick Jensen (but am fully expecting him to fall off a cliff now). Not buying out Hamonic is just dumb.

I desperately need them to find an RHD better than JBD. He's so ass, and they need someone with more experience if the plan if for Kleven to be the full time 3LD.

All that having been said, if they sign Pinto, and fill out the rest of the roster competently, then I still think they're significantly better than last season on the strength of goaltending alone. They'll need Green to get this team to support the goaltending WAY more than they have in recent years, but even if I haven't liked a lot of the moves, I can still see a path the the playoffs if they stay relatively healthy. Some real concerns about some older players falling off (Jensen, Perron, Giroux) which could derail things.

The biggest problem with this team is how goddamn slow they're gonna be though. Outside of Stützle, Greig, Gregor and Sanderson, everyone on the team is at best slightly above average skaters. Most of them are average, with a couple of below average skaters too.

Based on common sense and being realistic. I know this is difficult for Sens fans to come to terms with, but if they don’t make the playoffs this upcoming season, Brady is asking for a trade. You think he’s gonna stay cause he has 4 years left and loves Ottawa that much? Come on now, everyone knows this is make or break season for the Sens.

Common sense there sweetheart. Use your head. Sens don’t make playoffs, Brady is gone. He’s not sticking around for another losing season.
