Leafs Offseason Pt2

Barzal is also much better in the playoffs, another thing that tanks Marner's value.</div></div>
He's been playing wing for either Horvat or Nelson lately so his linemates aren't that bad

How far do they make it
I like the signings and Marner trade, but I think that they would get more in return for those 3 than just a 6th rounder, Jarnkrok is good for 15-20 goals which is decent for that cap hit. Robertson is still young and improving, but Kampf is paid a bit more than he is worth

I don't think Buchnevich is the type of player to be added in a cap dump, especially when Krug is 50% retained

Don't think Silovs would take that deal for a low cap hit for multiple years considering he proved himself in the playoffs.

Also have 3 non injured players on LTIR

Love the fit of Montour, but I would rather have us sign a more defensive oriented defenseman as opposed to Kylington. Also think the leafs could get a 4th rounder for Kampf on his own and much more if you add Liljegren

Leafs Offseason Pt2
I do think that Barzal is a very good player but Barzal has had 1 season above a point per game and that was back in 2017-18. Marner hasn't finished below a ppg since then. So I do think that Marner is much better than Barzal

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Deltago</b></div><div>Not really. DeBrincat's younger, scores more (two 40 goal seasons + a season prorated at 52 goals) and had a more reasonable contract with RFA status at the end of it.
Marner's cap hit alone is going to drive down the price. So is his NMC as well as the lingering question of who actually drove the play with Matthews. Did he get all of those assists (and 90 point seasons), because he was Matthews winger?</div></div>
I see the point but these are two very different players. This trade would be a sign and trade to NYI so they would have him long term. When Marner was on Tavares' wing he had 68 assists and 94 points so it's not entirely because of Matthews

Not a big fan of the lack of actual defense on the blue line. Don't mind the idea of a Laine trade, I also don't think Beauvillier signs for that low

Not a bad Marner trade tbh considering UTA will be taking on Tavares, only thing is, I think TOR will be looking for at least one established NHLer in this deal considering they're giving up 2 of their top 6 forwards

He's not much better than a 4th line center at this point, 2.4 for multiple years is not what you want to be paying a 4C

Figured this trade was just a change of scenery trade for both players, talked about it in my previous AGM

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Deltago</b></div><div>Toronto insn't getting close to that for Marner.
Marner is going to fetch close to what Ottawa got for DeBrincat last year - a roster player (probably a dump contract), a first round pick and a middling prospect without retention. It's why the 'we're probably going to keep him talk' has surfaced. Toronto has zero leverage in any trade, and Mitch probably declines anyway due to his relationship with Lou.
SJ also isn't taking Reaves for free. Toronto needs to throw a sweetener in (Steeves, Abruzzese).</div></div>
Marner has a way better resume than Debrincat, consistent 90+ point scorer, hypothetical situation- not taking into account relationship with Lou. Probably right about Reaves

I feel like these moves don't really solve the problems we have. Goaltending is decent with Brossoit but a team with cup aspirations cannot have Webber and Mattinen in the top 6, Love the addition of Draisaitl tho

Mitch isn't waiving without a contract in hand. No logical team think he worth his 11m (fifth highest in the league) and he'll want a raise too.</div></div>
I absolutely see your point, but in a way Pelech is that 5.5M defenseman and the 5.5 went to Bert and Kaliyev/Wahlstrom

I think they are equal value so it makes sense, similar players tho so they may meet the same problems on their new teams, more of a fan of Kaliyev on TOR for a scoring punch in the Bottom-6, but I see how NRob could get stuck with low TOI in LA

I do feel like I undervalued Marner a little bit but at this point I feel like he's going to walk as a UFA next summer and getting Pelech on term was important. Isles don't really have many more premium assets to give other than picks and I didn't really want to add too many high picks because that wouldn't be very realistic
