He's not much better than NJ’s 4th line center at this point, 2.4 for multiple years is not what you want to be paying a 4C who isn’t as good as Lazar

Leafs Offseason Pt2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>christianrcleary</b></div><div>I see the point but these are two very different players. This trade would be a sign and trade to NYI so they would have him long term. When Marner was on Tavares' wing he had 68 assists and 94 points so it's not entirely because of Matthews</div></div>
So if you want to look at the Tavares' years, you can say that Marner helped get John +10 more goals than he usually did finishing the season with 47 goals instead 38/37. So putting him beside an elite center would garner 10 to 15 more goals so you may make Horvat a 40 goal scorer. MAYBE. Horvat isn't as talented as Tavares was in his prime IMO.
I also don't see the Isles doing a sign and trade. They aren't going to pay a player more than what Barzal makes, who could be considered a better version than Marner (once again, put Barzal on Matthew's wing and how many points does Matthew's get).

Paying OEL, Ghost, and Dumba a combined 10.5 million would be a waste. Decent offensively, and bad offensively while all 3 are aging.

LA says keep Robertson, Kaliyev is bigger with more expierence and more valuable. Robertson is too small and LA has enough smaller guys.

Goaltending is decent with Brossoit but a team with cup aspirations cannot have Webber and Mattinen in the top 6, Love the addition of Draisaitl tho</div></div>
Mattinen is 6'4, 220 and nearly point a game his last two years in Europe. I've seen Webber play, his critics far overstate his shortcomings (skating, puckhandling).

Still five years of 5.75m for an overpaid player is too much. Heck sign Todd Gill for locker room chemistry for 1m even though isn't a NHLer
I was thinking more along the lines of Walker for four years, and Toffelli for three years.

Mitch isn't waiving without a contract in hand. No logical team think he worth his 11m (fifth highest in the league) and he'll want a raise too.</div></div>
Just a note, a good friend of mine coached Pelech and other NHLers in minor hockey. He said Pelech was the best teammate and coachable kid he ever had on in his 30 years of coaching.

The Kings have a severe shortage of both right-handed forwards and wingers with size, which is why I would prefer Wahlstrom. If that doesn't work out, Robertson would be a suitable consolation prize. I'm not that high on him, but I'm not really that high on Kaliyev either, so I suppose it's fair.

As much as I don't necessarily want Marner cause it'll be extremely hard to actually build a team around him with his cap, at some point you just have to accept the trade based on value alone and figure it out later. This is probably pretty unrealistic cause I don't see him being moved at all, but I would think he would probably get more from some other team who would be more willing to pay him.
