25-26 Leafs Look Ahead

Created by: Hockey_Hippy
Team: 2025-26 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 11, 2024
Published: Jun. 11, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Jarnkrok would have been dealt the previous season for a 2024 pick. Tight squeeze with Draisaitl who might be there, might not. But it would be dumb to tie up the cap money and forgo the chance that he is.

Trades
1.
TOR
  1. 2024 2nd round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
With Jakob Silfverburg retiring the Ducks need a veteran PK type who can hold his own regardless where you play him to step in. That's Jarnkrok. He played on all four lines and all three forward slots as well as defense in a pinch for the Leafs and on both special teams. He is a literal positional and situational Gumby. And an ideal mentor for a young team. The Boston pick is 58th overall so it is nearly a 3rd. That's not too high a price to pay.
ANA
  1. Järnkrok, Calle
Additional Details:
For Jarnkrok there is simply too many forwards and not enough slots for all of them. The Leafs are year by year turning over their forward group as they graduate prospects from the minors. And this season will be no different.
2.
TOR
  1. 2026 2nd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Pittsburgh lands a future PP QB and top 4 defender in Niemela who resembles Letang in tools and style (slightly undersized but highly intelligent). He is worth the 2nd by himself. Steeves who at minimum is a 3rd liner who can be spotted into the 2nd line ahs a shot that can beaty goalies from the top of the circle. He is the cost of doing business from moving on from Kampf.
PIT
  1. Kämpf, David
  2. Niemelä, Topi
  3. Steeves, Alex
Additional Details:
Toronto deals some of their most pro ready prospects to create the cap space needed to re-sign McCabe for another three seasons and replenishes their draft table a bit in the process.

We can find a Jarnkrok in free agency, we don't really care if we have to pay an extra mil per yet, we save the pick.

I feel like these moves don't really solve the problems we have. Goaltending is decent with Brossoit but a team with cup aspirations cannot have Webber and Mattinen in the top 6, Love the addition of Draisaitl tho

Someone with Jarnkrok's skill set in Free Agency will cost you between 3.5 and 4. If you're comfortable with that, fine. It doesn't have to be Anaheim at the other end of the deal. My feeling is that Jarnkrok garners Toronto a pick between 50 and 70 from someone.

Mattinen is 6'4, 220 and nearly point a game his last two years in Europe. I've seen Webber play, his critics far overstate his shortcomings (skating, puckhandling).
