Sens decline

When you dig into it's not that crazy from the Sens side - drop 2 spots from 7 to 9; drop 3 spots 25 to 28; 2025 2nd, and TB 2024 4th.

It would be a trade made once the Sens are on the clock - if they have 3 guys roughly scouted as the same then go for it, but if there's 1 guy they see as the best left then don't make the trade as it is constructed.

Could remove the 7 and 9 swap and put in like a 3rd round pick instead to make it clearer.

Markstrom 25% retained I’d give the Boston pick for, nothing more.

The Canucks traded Kuzmenko because he didn’t fit in Tocchet’s system, they wouldn’t want him back. The other pieces aren’t what the Canucks would want either, although the value is there

So for the Senators... Calgary moves up two spots from 9th to 7th, and moves up 3 spots from 28th to 25th. Moving up 2 spots in the late first round is usually a third (see Calgary 2020. Oilers 2021), and moving up 2 spots in the early first can be as high as a second (Arizona 2019). So essentially the Senators are giving up what could be 2 seconds, a third and a fourth for a goalie for two years.

I can see this happening at the draft if a player Calgary really wants is at 7 (and Markstrom waives) but without the other first round pick swaps and maybe just the 4th thrown in. I do not see Ottawa moving the '25 second unless they get something substantial back. Ottawa is already losing a first in the next two years and the second in '26 because of the Chych trade. Anyone they bring in with draft capital needs to stay long term and a 34 year old goalie doesn't scream that.

I don't see the value for CGY in trading Marky just to move up from 10th to 7th and and 28th to 25th. Without retention I'd consider tho.
In other drafts I would take the deal but this year is so deep that I don't think the gap between Catton, Parekh, Iginla, Lindstrom, Helenius... is significant enough to justify the deal.

Coleman retained will also cost more considering he scored 30 goals this year. Flames don't have to deal him and getting a 2nd isn't enough incentive esp if we have to take money back

The Ottawa trade is interesting idea. I did the math using Puckpedia calculator and it puts Markstrom value at around 22nd overall pick. If you subtracted the two late 1sts, it would put it at around 45th overall pick. That seems like realistic range for Markstrom (at $4.5m x 2 years). I would maybe find the mid-point and drop the 2025 2nd.

Props for the creativity.
