I'll pass on this if it costs us Nemec, without a second's thought.

Scenario 2

This is not really correct either, according to recent research.
23-25 is the AVERAGE prime. Meaning there will be many cases of NHLers peaking in their careers before the age of 23 - about just as many whom peaks after the age of 25.

To my knowledge, this is actually wrong.
The most recent research on the topic that I'm familiar with sets the average prime years to between 23-25.
It's a young man's sport.

Marner Trade Proposals Counter offers appreciated
Most of these you'll have to cut your expected returns in half.
Full NMC, 8 figure cap hit. You're looking at value closer to what Taylor Hall got when moved from Buffalo to Boston rather than Matthew Tkachuk level of return.

This is a flat out insane return for a goalie. Nothing in the cap era comes remotely close to this.
#10 overall alone would be a hefty overpayment for 1 year of Saros.

Celebrini effect
Devils right side is probably already set between Hamilton, Marino and Nemec. Casey is likely penciled in to play in the minors throughout the 24-25 season.
I suppose there could be a possibility of Fitzy moving Marino in a hockey trade, in which case your suggested Devils trade would become more compelling.

Likely
There’s no point in giving up on Holtz’s talent for a couple of picks the Devils have zero need for.
Holtz might get traded for an impact player but will most likely get another year to prove himself in NJD’s lineup. He’s a good bet to really breakout without having to play for a coach that actively works against him.

Fwiw I 'take dumps' on Markström and his perceived value on this board because I like to interrogate and refute ideas presented on a topics that I love - the NHL and the New Jersey Devils.
Also, I've been hating on Markström ever since 07-08 and not gonna stop now when he's being mocked to my favorite team for ludicrous returns.
That's just me though.

No lmao. And even then, Fitzgerald just doesn't take pure cap dumps, not even when the Devils were at their worst in the rebuild was that a strategy ever utilized.
Like Cal above said, Schmid would likely only be traded in a package for an impact player, or maybe in a pure hockey trade.

Maybe one of Holtz and Casey. Certainly not both of them though, no way. Would be an unprecedentedly large return for a goalie in the cap era.

100%. Only goalie that might be somewhat available that the Devils could trade Mercer for is Swayman.
I love Saros but the return wouldn't be much more than a 2025 1st, the going rate for high-caliber rentals.

Much rather deal Holtz for Saros or Ullmark than frickin Jakob Markström.
Or just resign Kähkönen in free agency.

I can’t imagine his eventual extension will be that expensive and keeps the salary situation under control. Under this roster, the devils would have to extend or replace a top 4 defenseman and both goaltenders after the season. They’d have to fit Luke Hughes extension in there as well. They’re gonna need to find some bargains and I think Holtz would qualify for that.</div></div>
100%. Holtz deserves at least one season with the Devils under a different coach other than Ruff and Green.
He has so much talent and still has a very good chance to be a key contributor in the Devils top 6 throughout the rest of this decade.

If Mercer is being dealt it better be for Swayman and not this massively inconsistent 34 year old.

Leafs Next Year
At least 2 of the 5 pieces with most value in that Marner trade come from the Devils side of things (Mercer and #10).
I would think that Marner, between his cap hit and NMC, would fetch something closer to what Taylor Hall went for when traded to Boston a few years back - 2nd + roster player / prospect.

Hatakka was very good what I saw from him with the Devils this year.
Wouldn't put it past him to beat Kevin Bahl out for the 3LHD spot come next season.
With that said, I like Alexeyev as well and wouldn't be too upset if this trade actually went down.

Interesting trade.
If the Devils could get Pärssinen included from the Predators side, I'd honestly really want Fitzy to consider this deal if offered.
Not a big fan of that Monahan signing however. Are better options in the forward UFA market for that kinda contract (Marchessault, Arvidsson, Duchene, Stephenson etc).
