I don’t care where they go. Really don’t spend much time on that aspect other than I did see Anaheim is wanting a RHD. They’re past the straight rebuilding stage.
Kerfoot fits the Yotes because his salary is the minimum. Give him top mins and trade him at the deadline for more than a 2025 Draft pick. I did the Leafs pick 3 years from now intentionally.

Don't they have to be cap compliant to end training camp (for 1 day) including LTIR room? Thought that was the case. If not, then obviously you hold onto Horton & the pick.

Leafs get a draft pick about 26 and 58 and don't improve in net by taking on Niemi 4.5m salary. Nielsen wouldn't be ready next year. Niemi isn't in it to help the Leafs... It's to make the money work for Dallas. I agree, I would love to get more for Gardiner and they probably can. However, I would take draft picks or prospects for him at this point.
Nielsen has a good shot at being ready for sure. A big bodied 21 year old next year has every chance of making the team. Of course he isn't a lock, but I disagree with you that he's a lock not to be in the N next year.

Leafs bought out Grabo for reason. For another team to give him a monster contract is beyond me. The Grabo signing by the Leafs....that's Burke...along with Komasarik, Lyles, Phanuef, Kessel. The worse thing a GM can do in a cap era is not being able to project values of players (I'm not saying a GM can be right all the time.)</i></div></div>
Buke traded for Dion and Kessel, but Nonis is the one that gave each of them the long term & big $ deals.

Where we sit today with Stammer
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juice</b></div><div><i>A performance bonus cushion exists since 2013 which allows teams to exceed the upper limit of the cap with performance bonuses to a maximum of 7.5 percent of the upper limit.
Any performances bonuses in excess of that total do not fall into the cushion and are counted as part of the team's cap payroll.
Any performance bonuses actually earned at season's end (ie. for games played, awards, all-star teams, etc.) are then added to the team's final cap payroll. The catch with the cushion is that if the bonuses earned at year's end push the team past the upper limit, the overage is carried over as a penalty the following season.</i></div></div>
What he said.

Matthews will have huge bonuses that can either count against this year or next year. He will get the max bonus structure and therefore this will be his cap hit if they chose to apply it against this year. I am suggesting use Matthews bonus cap hit vs this year and the other kids let carry over.

Lou wants a 2nd for bozak and they originally traded a 4th for marincin. Considering how much marincin improved his game since then accepting a 3rd and a 5th doesnt make sense. Should be a 2nd and a 3rd IMO. Regarding the tampa trade, if garrison is a cap dump then toronto should be getting the 2nd rounder, not the lightning. I am all for trading for a goalie but it should be someone with term, not a 1 year ufa.</i></div></div>
I don't disagree with you Brian... However, I would rather give up "too much" from the Leafs in these mock things and if we can get a better deal than that great! I would rather put out things like this and have some good discussion than just getting lampooned on here for Leafs robbing every other team if that makes sense.
I totally agree that you could get more for Bozak and Marincin in particular, but essentially the point is you deal them for as high draft picks as you can get.

In ten years, I might think differently. Bishop would help for one year then he's a UFA like Bernier. Rebuilding Leafs really don't need Garrison with Rielly and Gardiner on the LD. Arizona has lots of centres, can't see then giving up draft choices for 30 year old Bozak.</i></div></div>
Palhal....I've seen tons of comments from you on this site about how GM's won't want to give up many assets for only 1 year of this guy or 2 years of that guy...I really don't think that factors in as much as you think. If you have an idea for how much the player is looking to re-sign for and are willing to make an offer in that ballpark, you make the deal. Going after a guy like Bishop would be with the assumption that you're willing to pay him big bucks long term. You've made similar comments with JVR and how he's only got 2yrs left...that's an eternity in the NHL world.
And I think the idea of acquiring Garrison was more for salary dump purposes on Tampa's part to make the deal more attractive for them. There are probably 10-12 teams that would give a 3rd rounder for Bozak so you can swap Zona out for pretty much any other team....and Trouba is a 22yr old defenceman with a high ceiling...you have to give to get. That's fine if you prefer Nylander to him but the offer is fair.</i></div></div>
What he said. Exactly my thinking on all those points.

If he was a UFA 2-3 years from now, it would work out perfectly. Leafs won't be competitive for at least 3 more seasons meaning Stamkos and his cap hit for the next 3 years sucks. Plus when the Leafs DO become competitive (minimum 3 years from now) Stamkos is hitting 30 years old. I think the 10 mil in cap space for an uncompetitive Leafs roster for the next 3 years is better than having him on the roster today.</i></div></div>
You're missing the point. You are paying him to lead the kids. Having Babcock for now is useless as the teams sucks. But THE way this rebuild will work is having Babcock put in the structure now and having guys like Stamkos around to lead the young talent. We have seen what happened in Edmonton when you just stock-pile young talent without talented leadership. Stamkos now is KEY to the rebuild. Even if you never win a thing with him, Leafs will be MUCH better off long term with having him now to lead the kids.

Nylander is not close to Laine. I understand what you're saying, but I don't think it's the Leafs that don't make that deal. Lou will deal ANYONE if he thinks it will make them better. I'm just not sure if the Jets do that deal.

If Jones was average, why would anyone give up Ryan Johansen for him??? He was a 2nd pairing guy in Nash because of guys named Weber and Josi. He's top pairing on at least 20 teams (probably more) right now. Plus, he shoots right and can be paired with Rielly for years.

I can't argue with anything you've said at all.
However, they need some vets to lead the way. I don't want Kadri being that guy. Latch will be great, but not a premier player any more and likely dealt at the deadline. They need some long term character vets to guide the way for the kids. Ladd fits that for me. Maybe not as much Schenn, but a decent 3rd pairing right handed Dman would provide some stability. Hunwick can be the Vet for the Dmen.

PalHal, I didn't mean anything negative by it... You have just been very vocal about them not signing Stammer and thought you would be dead set against $13mil for him (at least until I explained it was only 5 years).
You're probably right that it's too much to give up for Trouba, but I want a right shooting dman to play with the lefty Rielly for years. I'd personally give all that up for him, but I could be dead wrong that he's worth that or is that good.

Drouin up some thoughts
You're kidding yourself if you think Sparks or Bibeau will ever be an impactful starting goalie in the NHL. Ever.
Vasilevsky has crazy potential as does Drouin. Perhaps that is too much to give up I'll give you that, but I don't think by much. Drouin is going to be pursued by every team and Vasilevsky is the top goaltending prospect in the NHL.
Like I said in my comments, this is more of a long term view of the team. I expect them to sign more Mathias type guys this off-season to play next year and trade at the deadline and those guys will play ahead of most of the kids I have in the lineup.

2 Trades, 1 signing and Kids
Taking on Bobrovsky is to get the deal done. Of course I would rather not include him, but I think it sweetens the pot for CBJ to do the deal.
I think you need to get talent and if Stamkos will come here I think you need to make it happen. Worry later about which guys play the wing and which guys play centre. You can never have enough elite centres....
