Created by: Leafs1793
Team: 2016-17 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 4, 2016

Description
This is more of a long term approach than a next year... Not all these guys make it next year.

Also have a lot more cap space to be made available when needed with Horton and Robidas going to LTIR.

Wow, he have set back the Leaf rebuild back 5 years. Next year to you think it's realistic that Timashov jumps from junior to the NHL. Johnson, Marner, Nylander, Valiev, Brown, Gauthier are they all NHL ready? Harrington? can't make the Leafs now.
Loov, I like. I know in your explanation you said it may be longer term
Do you really think the Preds would take JVR (who has two years on his contract, a never NHLer Percy) and 35th overall pick for Jones. Surely the Preds could get better value elsewhere. I like Bozak, but does the always building Arizona trade a 35th overall for him.
The Tampa trade....the worst. The Leafs have two young potential NHL goalies....Sparks and Bibeau, so why would they trade for Vasilevskiy? And AHLer Drouin for Kadri, Gardiner, two starting NHLers, and 3 second rounders.
Do you think Stamkos would have any inclination to sign with group?

As much as I would want to have Drouin and Vasilevskiy, giving up Kadri, Gardiner, Dermott and 2 second round picks is too much.

You're kidding yourself if you think Sparks or Bibeau will ever be an impactful starting goalie in the NHL. Ever.

Vasilevsky has crazy potential as does Drouin. Perhaps that is too much to give up I'll give you that, but I don't think by much. Drouin is going to be pursued by every team and Vasilevsky is the top goaltending prospect in the NHL.

Like I said in my comments, this is more of a long term view of the team. I expect them to sign more Mathias type guys this off-season to play next year and trade at the deadline and those guys will play ahead of most of the kids I have in the lineup.
