I like big Z but he just isn't worth that much term or money. He's a 4/5 guy and those guys should be getting paid like you have with Soucy and Myers.

Kakko
Canucks decline. As bad as Mikheyev was he still put up 12 more points then Kakko. Plus with the retention and having to pay Kakko it works out to the same cap hit. Not at all worth giving up a second round pick.

Trading Nurse
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mediumyeet</b></div><div>Yep that contract is basically immovable. Edm best route is to buy him out. Next year they would get an additional 10mil in cap space and 8.5mil the following year. After that it would be 3 years or something or 9.5mil cap hit which would sting but they need to continue going all in the next two years especially with new contracts for draisaitl, Bouchard, and McDavid on the horizon</div></div>
Even the buyout isn't really an option. You get two years of relief and then bam 4 years at 9 million dollar cap hits. Unless your thinking is we have 1 year left with McDavid, Draisaitl and Bouchard at lower cap hits and go crazy trying to win it all next year.

Well take
I can't see the Canucks giving up that much to move on from Mikheyev. I think they'd rather just have him back and deal with the cap hit then giving up 2 players I could easily see in their lineup in the next 2-3 years.

Upgrading
I'm not sure if Canes fans would think that's enough. A late first and a second along with Glass who to be honest doesn't really move the needle all that much.
If I was the Canes I'd be asking for a Kemell or Molendyk as well to push that deal through. However I think the Canes are probably looking for a player that has established themselves already at the NHL level but isn't at the level of a Necas just yet.

Trading Nurse
Even without getting a single thing back it's going to take multiple firsts or high end prospects for a team to even think about taking on Nurse's contract. Certainly a second round pick and a 3/4th line player isn't going to get it done.

Getting Treliving and Berube type players
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Brad_Treliving</b></div><div>Not quite. Canucks gave up a first for Hronek (laughable)</div></div>
Ya and Hronek finished top 10 in plus minus in the entire NHL and put up 50 points as a top pairing RD and helped Hughes to his best season ever. He also has over 200 points in his career compared to Liljegren's 65. Liljegren's never been able to crack the leafs lineup full time despite the defense being trash except for Reilly. If he's so good and worth a 1st or 2nd round pick why does every leaf post have him being shipped out the door? Also if you could have gotten that high of a pick for him don't you think Tre or Dubas would have traded him by now?
Canucks easily pass.

Fix the Canucks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FlySharks2006</b></div><div>His production, etc are that of a $6m ish defenseman. That isn’t how money works. In a shorter deal they make less money because the cap rises over time. That’s why he’s projected to make that on a 4 year deal. An 8 year deal he only gets slightly above 7. (He won’t get an 8 year deal)
Arbitration is statistically more likely to favor the team than the player since it’s data driven. He better settle prior to arb or he’s likely to get a one or two year deal in the 4-5 range.
You should probably get the fundamentals of how the business works before commenting on business things.</div></div>
Did I say Hronek is going to be 8, no. I said his agent has asked for 8. Agents always ask for more then they know they are going to get. The fact that you've signed guys for far less then what the market or people far smarter then you or I have projected shows you're the one who needs the business lesson and you should follow your own advice about not commenting unless you understand the nuances of the business.

I will take the problem of having a 50 point 25 year old RD. He is miles better then anyone you currently have on the right side.

I hate that Hronek trade. No way we give up a second and Hronek and only get back a bottom pair dman and a middle 6 forward. Sure Knies might turn into more down the road but he's not worth what we are giving up.
It's also way too much money for Liljegren.
No chance Chandler Stephenson signs for 4.5.

Lekker is going to be a middle six, a third line W most likely. Again, if he does turn into something, it’ll be 3-4 years from now and the Canucks window will be closing.
You’re right. I was being hopeful Hronek would take a discount to help the Canucks because he likes playing with Quinn. He’s projected to make $6M. I should have just gone with what he’s likely to make.</div></div>
Hronek's agent is asking for and hasn't moved off of getting 8 million per year. Because of his production, ice time and arb rights he's going to get over 7 million on a one year deal. He isn't taking less then that especially long term.

By the time Demko was given the starters job and his new contract he had nearly 200 pro games between Utica and the Canucks including the bubble performance.
Silovs has less then 100. So there is a significant difference between the experience of the two players. Also Demko's second contract which Silovs is about to get was for just over a million bucks.
