If Lindholm signs for 5 years, my guess is it’s closer to 8.5m. At close to 7M, I’d anticipate it would be closer to a 7 year deal.
Curious to see how they handle DeBrusk if they trade Ullmark at the draft.

<strong>New Cap Space: $19.9 million</strong>
I'm still in the boat that Swayman is going to get around $7 million a year on an 8yr deal
<strong>New Cap Space: $12.9 million</strong>
So let see where we sit now:

Frederic - Poitras - Lysell

Lets factor $1 million per the healthy scratches of the roster. The Bruins are sitting just shy of $10 million in cap space and would be looking for a top 6 winger. $7 million could land a pretty solid winger for the top 6.

There are a ton of options. I’m pretty confident that Sweeney has the support staff in place where he will make the necessary trade offs that all teams need to make.

- Jurmo & Brzustewicz are both projects, who (based on reports) need to work on their game in their own end. These guys are still likely 2-3 years away from even sniffing the CGY line-up.
In the end both teams got what they were looking for/needed in a deal. I just think 5-6 years from now we'll look back on this and say CGY doesn't have much to show from dealing Lindholm.</div></div>

He has another year left, so probably either a 1st and a mid-tier prospect, or a high-end prospect. They would need to make the cap work, so those values might change as roster players get mixed in.
To be honest, I don't see Boston making the trade unless there is real incentive, and trading high picks and prospects does not fit Waddell's MO either. For Boston, trading Ullmark puts their season at major risk given how much they have been relying on goaltending. If the Canes don't plan to re-sign Teravainen, then there could be something there with more pieces leaving Boston with Ullmark, but I doubt that happens either. He is playing too well this year for Carolina to consider it.

Fixing the issues from an outside perspective
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rob32sjsharks</b></div><div>44% isn’t horrible but it’s something I would work on with him, but right now he’s not needed to be a face off guy so it’s not worth working a lot on.
You also have to take into consideration he’s usually the 2nd guy in after Draisatl or McDavid is tossed and he’s not able to cheat a little or try things because he risks a penalty called on him (if 2nd guy gets tossed it’s a delay of game penalty)</div></div>
He’s been bad his entire career at it. 🤷🏻♂️
From a logistics standpoint.
Why it works:
Edm needs a goalie and adding a mediocre one won’t help much.
Boston needs another top 6 FW.
Cap neutral move.
Why it does not work:
Edmonton collectively is bad defensively, goalie will help but not enough.
Trading RNH for a goalie is not a good move.
Boston is better off having two top 10 goalies that give them a chance to win every night as opposed to playing a backup caliber goalie 25-30 times a year. They have a mid to good offense that is better off playing lower scoring games. They are better off holding Ullmark and adding a cheap mid 6 wing like Vrana or Duclair. Unless they are moving Ullmark to make room for a difference maker they are better off waiting til the offseason. RNH is a very nice complimentary piece. But he’s not the missing piece, and with early arrival of Poitras their need for 2nd line caliber center just does not exist anymore.

I'm not saying he's a 3C but I wouldn't want him as a 1C unless I've got a middling team. He's good top6 player, sure. He isn't a regular 75-100 pts guy. I would just not have him as my 1C if the goal is the Cup (which in this case, would be).

Lindholm for DeBrusk plus
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ON3M4N</b></div><div>^This right here. Horvat w/ 25% retention last year went for 1st + Raty + Beauvillier
1st = 1st
Lysell = Raty
??? = Beauvillier
Beauvillier was 25yrs old a fringe 20/20 guy and had 1yr remaining at $4.1 million. DeBrusk is slightly better than a 20/20 guy, but he's a pending UFA. Frederic could be a 20/20 and signed for 1 more year at $2.3 million, but he's more of fringe 20/15 guy right now</div></div>
My assumption is Geekie/Grzelcyk without retention would hold similar value to Beauvalier. Ultimately, a lot of deals get lost in the cap filler valuation. Personally, I’d rather have Grzelcyk than Beauvalier as a player and my guess is he’d sign an extension if that’s what you wanted.
My assumption is Lysell holds more value than Raty. The Islander #1 is better than the Bruin one. Lindholm being a year older and entering FA in a year where cash is available makes his future contract expectations worse than what Horvat’s would be. I’d also say that increases Lindholm’s walk away risk and is likely a big consideration in his valuation long term vs rental.
I think there is something there, but it may need to be supplemented. I’ve generally added either Merkulov or Harrison in my renditions of the deal that don’t include DeBrusk
If DeBrusk is included, his expiring contract makes him an optimal playoff sniper rental. Hes a better player than Bettuzzi and he netted a top 10 protected pick with retention. You’d have to time the deal before the deadline to make that part work. It could add complexity, but his retention is about what Vancouver retained in Horvat and my guess is that would net a late 1 from a contender
From Boston’s perspective, I’d rather include Grz/Geekie/Harrison or Melkulov choice vs DeBrusk. The question is would Calgary be OK with that substitute. For the record, I’m OK going with what we have

Full blown rebuild trading every valuable piece
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ON3M4N</b></div><div>I'd throw Buffalo into that as well. I remember listening to Razor and Jaffe during their podcast (last year maybe) and Raycroft talked about how Colorado had started rebuilding when he was there back in 2008. So it took Colorado 14 years a few stud high-end picks in MacKinnon, Landeskog, Makar, Rantenen and some good trades to win a cup. It took them 8yrs just to become steady playoff contenders, then a few years of struggles in the playoffs before the cup came.</div></div>
Exactly, and even then look at NYR... gifted the 1st and 2nd overall picks and they're 3rd line wingers. You have to tank on the right years. Rebuilding can certainly work well though, I think St. Louis is the only team in the last 15+ years to win a cup without a first or second overall pick playing for them. They did have a 4th overall though. I think that's been Boston's issue in large part. Although, JVR can change that lol.

Well said, and 100% agreed. They seem so intriguing because the teams rebuilding and stacking prospects get so much hype around them, until the prospects actually play and then people realize they have a long way to go. Detroit is a perfect example, and even Ottawa to an extent.
