Lindholm for DeBrusk plus
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ON3M4N</b></div><div>^This right here. Horvat w/ 25% retention last year went for 1st + Raty + Beauvillier
1st = 1st
Lysell = Raty
??? = Beauvillier
Beauvillier was 25yrs old a fringe 20/20 guy and had 1yr remaining at $4.1 million. DeBrusk is slightly better than a 20/20 guy, but he's a pending UFA. Frederic could be a 20/20 and signed for 1 more year at $2.3 million, but he's more of fringe 20/15 guy right now</div></div>
My assumption is Geekie/Grzelcyk without retention would hold similar value to Beauvalier. Ultimately, a lot of deals get lost in the cap filler valuation. Personally, I’d rather have Grzelcyk than Beauvalier as a player and my guess is he’d sign an extension if that’s what you wanted.
My assumption is Lysell holds more value than Raty. The Islander #1 is better than the Bruin one. Lindholm being a year older and entering FA in a year where cash is available makes his future contract expectations worse than what Horvat’s would be. I’d also say that increases Lindholm’s walk away risk and is likely a big consideration in his valuation long term vs rental.
I think there is something there, but it may need to be supplemented. I’ve generally added either Merkulov or Harrison in my renditions of the deal that don’t include DeBrusk
If DeBrusk is included, his expiring contract makes him an optimal playoff sniper rental. Hes a better player than Bettuzzi and he netted a top 10 protected pick with retention. You’d have to time the deal before the deadline to make that part work. It could add complexity, but his retention is about what Vancouver retained in Horvat and my guess is that would net a late 1 from a contender
From Boston’s perspective, I’d rather include Grz/Geekie/Harrison or Melkulov choice vs DeBrusk. The question is would Calgary be OK with that substitute. For the record, I’m OK going with what we have

Full blown rebuild trading every valuable piece
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ON3M4N</b></div><div>I'd throw Buffalo into that as well. I remember listening to Razor and Jaffe during their podcast (last year maybe) and Raycroft talked about how Colorado had started rebuilding when he was there back in 2008. So it took Colorado 14 years a few stud high-end picks in MacKinnon, Landeskog, Makar, Rantenen and some good trades to win a cup. It took them 8yrs just to become steady playoff contenders, then a few years of struggles in the playoffs before the cup came.</div></div>
Exactly, and even then look at NYR... gifted the 1st and 2nd overall picks and they're 3rd line wingers. You have to tank on the right years. Rebuilding can certainly work well though, I think St. Louis is the only team in the last 15+ years to win a cup without a first or second overall pick playing for them. They did have a 4th overall though. I think that's been Boston's issue in large part. Although, JVR can change that lol.

Well said, and 100% agreed. They seem so intriguing because the teams rebuilding and stacking prospects get so much hype around them, until the prospects actually play and then people realize they have a long way to go. Detroit is a perfect example, and even Ottawa to an extent.

I doubt that they’ll leave him on the bench for 8 years. After all, a normal human can only last a couple weeks without food, so the Devils would have to take him off the bench sometime for his own safety.

Kessel #5

They also had the 37th. Took a Russian that never played in the NHL Yuri Alexandrov.
Imagine that good of a draft with the 37th pick busting.

His development stalled once he went pro. He is a #1D in AHL and plays top minutes and PP1 time but once he goes NHL he's overmatched. He and Regula are still young and might still come around but they're looking more like bottom pairing Dmen on weak defensive depth teams to AHL call up guys on better teams with improved depth.

At worse, he's a proven AHL goaltender. Hell, even if he just manages to provide some competition in training camp, he will do more than most 5th round or later draft picks manage.

Since when is a fringe 60pt player not worth a 2nd & 3rd? Boston doesn't have to trade Hall at all, so the "cash strapped" point is irrelevant. The only way the "need" to move Hall is if they re-sign Bertuzzi. If they do that then they'll already have a trade lined-up for Hall.</div></div>
I agree. Hall isn't a cap dump at all. In fact he has a lot of value imo. A team really going for it might be willing to trade a 1st (a late 1st) to acquire him. With two years left on his deal, he makes a ton of sense for a lot of teams including the Bruins if they do not re-sign Bertuzzi.

Supplemental Kings Deal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ON3M4N</b></div><div>I don't put as much stock into the 30yr mark. With the advancement in training, medicine and technology in general you see more and more players playing deeper into their 30's. Most goalie doesn't peak till their late 20's. Ullmark will turn 30 just before the start of the season and his last year of his deal he'll be 31 years old. He's not in that window when you expect goalies to decline (33+ yr old). I'm not even really looking at the assets coming back to Boston in this as we chat. I'm looking at it more of Ullmark would be a good piece to help the Kings for a few years get the net to a point where its not a weakness.
Looking at the deal OP has, Arvidsson I'd be hesitant to move in a deal. Turcotte though, If I were a Kings fan I'd think about. Sure the talent is there and the #5OA title is on him, but he's already missed a good amount of time due to a concussion and he suffered a lower body injury the year before. He also hasn't exactly lit up the AHL like you'd expect a #5OA pick to do. Kings also have a lot of centers on their roster, where they could gamble and not hurt themselves at the NHL level.</div></div>
Turcotte + a roster player w a decent cap hit would be a fair trade IMO, BOS isnt trading Ullmark to LA unless they receive one of their surplus of young C's in return, ik most Kings fans dont like the idea of moving Turcotte, but its honestly more of a risk for Boston considering the points you mentioned above.
Arvidsson isnt the right player coming back to BOS IMO (even tho theyre probably moving him out), Iafallo, Grundstrom, Durzi are more likely candidates
Kings fans also seem to be so against the idea of trading for Ullmark, when theyre getting a solid Goalie who can hjelp them take that final leap in the playoffs which theyve been missing. Ya he likely wont put up the same numbers as this year, but hes still a very solid option in net, at a very reasonable 5mill for 2 years
