Free agency
It's a solid team but Debrusk/Stammer/Brown/Janmark will all make more. Either way those big contracts will make it tough to resign Draisaitl next yr.

Kotkaniemi's interesting but the term on that contract makes him virtually untradeable.

I don't think a 4x4 for Foegele or 4x3 for Wennberg will age well.

If Roy gets a long term deal Ottawa could have a D-Core of Chabot-Roy / Sanderson - Zub all under team control for another three years. Tkachuk, Stutz, Batherson, Norris are also signed for at least 3 years. If they can get an Ullmark deal done then these next three years could seriously be a contention window for the Sens.

Stamkos will have no shortage of interest.</div></div>
Agreed-hasn't shown any signs of slowing down. Even if he regresses to a 50-60pt guy there's still value there at 5M.
Guentzel is also turning 30-not like he's a 23yr old rising star. He'll be good next year, but his cap hit in year 6 or 7 will seriously hurt Tampa.

Tanev Zadorov OEL
As a Flames fan Tanev is one of my all-time favorite players. But the way he plays giving him a 5yr deal is risky considering the probability of injury.

I honestly don't understand why you would sign Guentz instead of Stammer.
Point production between the two has honestly been similar and Stammer is the backbone of your franchise - not to mention that his asking price is in the 5-5.5M range while Guentz will easily be 8M+.
Hope that Stammer lights it up wherever he goes.

Deal 1 or Deal 2
I think Holtz-McGroarty can work for WPG. Put him next to Connor and Scheifele and let him be in a scoring role. IMO putting him in the bottom six will do nothing for his development.

I might be in the minority for Flames fans but without the Kadri retention I think Flames accept. No chance they retain 2M for 5 years though.

Yea, Trenin more a placeholder for any bottom-six contributor. Moser may get more if he goes to arb but I think 2.5 is the maxhe'll be awarded.

I would argue that Hagel-Point-Kuch is one of the top lines in the NHL. If Geekie develops quickly that second-line is also elite. I think a bottom six featuring Arvi, Paul, Trenin, etc... is not bad either.
Is it a top-5 FWD core? Probably closer to top10. But you can get away with that considering their defense and goaltending. Personally I would rather TB spend on a 2RD like Tanev than a 2RW like Toffoli considering Geekie can likely be a top6 guy at a much lower number. Otherwise the FWD core is not really that flexible - unless you're trading one of your core guys (Hags, Kuch, Point, Cirelli) then there is not many pieces to add. Just my 2cents

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GiggywithGibby</b></div><div>I'd say it's probably Sennecke goes back to Jr next year, as basically all Canadian Ducks high picks have, and he gets his shot in 25-26 at the main roster. I would bring Leason back, good bottom 6 still showing improvement year on year, might be a good 3rd liner one day.
Peace us a great grab, not wild on Edmundson. Guess we'll know Monday.</div></div>
Agreed, Edmunson is added to be a veteran presence and be a steady partner for Zellweger or Mintyukov. Probably paying more for his experience and steadiness than actual perforamance.

I like Teuvo's fit on the Sharks. He can be a really solid complimentary winger to Celebrini or Smith at a really reasonable number. A top-six w/ Teuvo, Smith, Celebrini, Eklund would be fun.

I like this move for VAN. Ideally if you can somehow shed Mikheyev's deal I think there could be an upgrade to be made at 2RD and then you keep Myers as a luxury #3 guy.

Not Trading For A Goalie
It's a solid team but Devils can't risk wasting another year w/ the Hughes / Hischier core by running a Ned / Allen tandem. Both fine goaltenders but neither is a starter.
Either a trade has to be made or you take Berts money and pay a legitimate starting goaltender.

Value wise Carolina likely accepts. My concern would be Necas' desire to play centre considering Buffalo already has Thompson, Cozens, Savoie...
If BUF can get him to buy into being a full-time winger, this could be a great move.

What do you mean, Minnesota needs a LHD? They don't. We'll take Tarasenko everytime, thank you.
What Minnesota needs is a top-six foward to take over their 2LW spot, they don't need a LHD.</div></div>
I see your point but Middleton is not a 2LD. I just think there is more value in getting a legit top-4LD with most of that money - take Brendan Dillon for example. Sign him at 3.5 M per and run Brodin-Spurgeon / Dillon-Faber. That's a pretty top-end top4. If you really want that 2LW sign Zucker or Arvi for 3M. Will likely provide production that is pretty similar to Tarasenko at a lower number.

If I'm Minny I'd use the money for a LHD instead anyway.

Having almost 11M in dead money in 2029 is gonna hurt this team big time. No matter how much it benefits them next year I don't think it makes sense.
Only way it could work is if the Oilers are planning on a scorched earth rebuild during those years but as long as McDavid is on the team that isn't going to happen.
