<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drambui</b></div><div>with the injuries we had, i think it would have been nice to add a guy like mantha for a 1 year deal like he signed with the flames. Last year, newhook dach and Roy missed a lot of.time alone on injuries. Also, getting a cap dump doesnt mean he will take someone spot. you can waive him or buy him out too.
That said, i dont think its a big deal, i dont mind being bad for another year. But Hugues goes on press release saying he wants to compete this year but does nothing, i just dont why he goes on about tring.to make the playoffs but not do a single thing to make the team better. (not that i want to try to make the playoffs, but that's what he says)</div></div>
I agree with your second point. I think Hughes gets excited sometimes and says dumb **** to the media. Looking back, it's certainly a weird comment to make. Off-season is not over though, we still do have too many Ds for next year and the habs could still do some moves over the summer or around september before the season starts!

Wouldn't Calgary's first be changed to Panthers' first?
I also think it would not be a bad thing, but I fear ownership becomes short sighted and fire Kent/Gorton or even MSL. In reality, we shouldn't be expecting anything from this team until Demidov gets here and Reinbacher is ready to play in the NHL

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drambui</b></div><div>they brought dadonov, petry, pearson, desmith and monahan for picks, he never cared. we have a big hole in our fowards group anyway, dont even have a full top 6 right now. You cna bring a guy like mantha on a 1 year deal instead of having a plug like josh anderson playing there.</div></div>
Our top 6 next year will be Cole-Suzuki-Slaf + Newhook-Dach-Roy. It's pretty damn full lol, again, not to win, but to allow young players to progess and have important ice time. Will Roy and Newhook end up on our top 6 full time? No, Probably not. But while we wait for the game changer in Demidov, they can certainly fill up the hole and get some valuable experience.
Anderson falls out of our top 9 by the way with our third line probably being something like Armia-Dvorak-Gallagher. Of course injury and rotation happen, but, unless he bounces back hard, Anderson is barely in the lineup at this time...
Not signing extra vets also allows us to open the door for guys like Beck, Kapanen, Heineman, or others (for rotation/injury) to surprise and seize ice time/opportunities.
And like, I do think it could be nice to have the good guy on a short term deal to play here, I just don't think it's THAT important. Not moving much is also smart.

No because they want the young players to play and grow together. There's no point in doing random moves. They have to sign Guhle and Slafkovsky this year, and they will be finally free of bad contracts in three years. Slow and steady.

Habs have their plan and they are not moving away from it guys. It's going to be a slow methodical build and that's how it'll stay until they are ready to compete for the cup.

I think Luch looked good though. I think he makes it to the NHL in the next 2 years. I also think that when all is said and done, Struble is the one we are keeping out of Xhekaj, Barron and Harris.

That trade is probably not THAT far off from what you're getting for McGroarty. Anyway, I feel you. I'd would probably also be mad if we had a player ask for a move out every year.

ANA fans I have a proposition
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>squashmaple</b></div><div>Despite being a part-time Ducks fan, I can't make heads or tails of what they might do. They're the wildcard of the top five. If Chicago takes anyone other than Levshunov, Anaheim takes him; if Chicago takes Levshunov, I don't know what Anaheim does. They like big guys who can skate, usually, but how do you pass on Demidov if he's there?
I don't recall any CBJ/Iginla rumors, but perhaps I just dismissed them. Sennecke sticks out because he's generally ranked in the 10-15 range so it was surprising to see a team with 4OA and no picks til the third round (assuming they don't keep the conditional 2nd from the Philly trade) talking to him, but he also had a very intriguing end to his season, and we all know Timmins loves a big boy.</div></div>
We've also been linked to Sennecke. One of our most well respected reported mentioned a few weeks back that Habs fans should be prepared for the possibility of him being taken at 5 by the Habs. Lots of chatter about him being taken much earlier than expected!

ANA fans I have a proposition
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>squashmaple</b></div><div>Columbus has focused almost entirely on forwards, which also makes sense because the org's current top two prospects besides Fantilli are defensemen. They've taken forwards Sennecke, Lindstrom, and Demidov out for dinner, but the only defenseman they've done that with is Buium. There were rumors of sniffing around Silayev as well, but that only came from a general report and nothing from CBJ sources. FWIW, Grant McCagg says the chatter is that Columbus is pretty set on Lindstrom.
The Ducks would be foolish to turn that down.</div></div>
Worse case (and tbh, likely) scenario for the habs is Lev/Demidov/Lindstrom all gone in the picks 2 to 4. I'm 99% sure Ana-Chi will split Demidov/Lev so CBJ should have a free shot at Lindstrom. So CBJ spoke with Sennecke but not Iginla? You have to think the habs are ending up with Buium at this point.
1. Celebrini
2. Levshunov
3. Demidov
4. Lindstrom
5. Biuium
That's my bet for tomorrow,

Massive overpay to be honest. Even Chicago probably accepts this. This could set the franchise back for years if the habs don't hit on that 3OA.

Predraft Future Outlook
I don't know if Necas is the guy that we need.
I do agree that Matheson is probably not here for the start of our window, and I think our D core probably looks something like that in 2 years. Hopefully Reinbacher can be that 1st RD and then I would try to sign someone for that 2nd pair RD. I would only keep one of Mailloux or Baron because I just don't like the idea of having almost no experience on our back line. My left side is probably exactly the same as your, unless Hudson reaches unexpected peaks and can play his way on our 1st pair with Reinbacher backing him up.
My future D core hopes :
Guhle - Reinbacher
Hutson - UFA RD
Xhekaj/Struble - Mailloux/Barron
For offense like I said, I don't think Necas is the guy for us. He wants to play center and he's gonna cost 8M + right now, while we are stuck with Anderson and Gally for another 3 years, needing to sign Guhle, Slafkovsky next year. Plus the canes are asking too much.
Offense in 2 years for me :
Slafkovsky - Suzuki - Demidov (for one timers with his left shot)
Caufield - Dach - Prolly UFA or trade, but not Necas
Roy - Newhook - Gallagher
Wtv - Beck - Wtv
If we get Lindstrom :`
Caufield - Suzuki - Slaf
Newhook - Dach - UFA/Trade
Roy - Lindstrom - Gally
Wtv - Beck - Wtv
A guy like McGroarty would fit perfectly here.

Cant wait for friday - realistic take for the habs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Thetlc</b></div><div>Why do you think the Habs would need to give up 3 1st rounders for 1 1st rounder that by the looks of it does not want to join the Wpg organization?
This is either a hockey trade (1:1 highish-end prospect) or maybe a couple of picks</div></div>
Look at it this way, those guys would not garner a 1st round pick back on their own today. It's more like two mid 2nd round pick + a late first for a top 15 pick.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>Okay, well he wasn't able to crack Montreal's lineup regularly last year and wouldn't crack Winnipeg's starting 6. So, then the Jets would lose him on waivers. Meaning he adds like a 3rd or 4th in value, so not much.</div></div>
I mean he played 48 games in the NHL last year, that's 6th most among Habs defensemen. Our defense moved around a lot because we have a bunch of young guys and the team gave multiple chances to different guys. He's 22 (23 in November), 6'2, posted 13 points in 48 games with essentially no PP time, and was a -3 on a -53 team lol. I'm not saying he's god, or even that the Jets would absolutely want him, but he's not getting waived lol. You are clearly underestimating his value.

Armia is a guy that I'd have some interest in but with Brock McGinn filling the role of 3M AAV 4th liner already and Brett Leason to play 4th line RW there just isn't a spot for him. Habs would have to take a guy back other than Groulx like Ross Johnston.
Groulx + Johnston for Armia is the trade I'd do. Pass on the original offer.</div></div>
Look you're getting Harris, 27th OA and Ryder and you're gonna like it ok?
