Cant wait for friday - realistic take for the habs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Thetlc</b></div><div>Why do you think the Habs would need to give up 3 1st rounders for 1 1st rounder that by the looks of it does not want to join the Wpg organization?
This is either a hockey trade (1:1 highish-end prospect) or maybe a couple of picks</div></div>
Look at it this way, those guys would not garner a 1st round pick back on their own today. It's more like two mid 2nd round pick + a late first for a top 15 pick.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>Okay, well he wasn't able to crack Montreal's lineup regularly last year and wouldn't crack Winnipeg's starting 6. So, then the Jets would lose him on waivers. Meaning he adds like a 3rd or 4th in value, so not much.</div></div>
I mean he played 48 games in the NHL last year, that's 6th most among Habs defensemen. Our defense moved around a lot because we have a bunch of young guys and the team gave multiple chances to different guys. He's 22 (23 in November), 6'2, posted 13 points in 48 games with essentially no PP time, and was a -3 on a -53 team lol. I'm not saying he's god, or even that the Jets would absolutely want him, but he's not getting waived lol. You are clearly underestimating his value.

Uh Barron is not getting waived? If he's not traded he's playing on our top 6 for sure.

Kov is good but he's 6th-7th D assured. Baron still has interesting upside. I don't think the value is the same. You can prolly get Kovacevic for a 6th.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CHAR</b></div><div>Ducks have zero interest in Harris, as we've said on this site a billion times. On the left side he'd be 6th on the depth chart behind Fowler, Mintyukov, Zellweger, LaCombe and Vaakanainen. He's also 5'11 and Verbeek won't look a defender if he isn't a minimum of 6'2".
Armia is a guy that I'd have some interest in but with Brock McGinn filling the role of 3M AAV 4th liner already and Brett Leason to play 4th line RW there just isn't a spot for him. Habs would have to take a guy back other than Groulx like Ross Johnston.
Groulx + Johnston for Armia is the trade I'd do. Pass on the original offer.</div></div>
Look you're getting Harris, 27th OA and Ryder and you're gonna like it ok?

Each teams best player ranked in order
I have no horse in this race but, as an absolute true neutral, I think Suzuki should be higher, maybe around McDavid/Kucherov, and that Matthews should be more around Stone/Heiskanen tier. But that's just my honest objective opinion. I could be wrong. I'm just saying.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>stuuuuuuuuuuutzle</b></div><div>Laine seems to really need a fresh start and I think now you still have the mystery of a player who has been great sometimes, has been bad others, has been injured lots. Also, in terms of the trade, I think it's pretty fair for taking Dvorak too (though, Habs might not care that much since they don't need to be great next year). I don't think I'd trade him for much less — maybe take Heineman out</div></div>
Yea the thing is Dvorak is not a bad asset next year. He's UFA in 2025 and the habs can probably easily move him for a pick with half retained salary at the deadline. They won't be paying someone to take him next year, not a chance. If he's offered to CBJ, it would be because they would actually want him or because they value the same idea of him being most likely gone next year and being able to get free assets from him at the deadline.
It would basically be Harris + Heineman + a late first, a second, and a third. It's not like outrageous or anything, but think Harris + late first + 3rd should be enough. Or like Harris + Heineman + 2nd.

I would personnally not give that much away for Laine when MTL is prolly one of the riskiest places for him. I would either take the picks out or Heineman and Harris out.

I wonder if WPG does 27th + Beck for McGroarty. I think NHL teams probably value a guy like Beck quite a bit, and if McGoarty is leaving anyway... maybe? Fox was moved for almost nothing and Gauthier was moved for a D prospect the Flyers were pretty meh over so... idk.

Uh I'm sorry? Not enough for Matheson? That's a 10th OA lol. It's way more than enough for Matheson. Habs can pick something like Buium + Sennecke/Catton/Iginla/Helenius AND they get to play Guhle on his side with Marino.
This is a massive yes for the Habs and the Devils would never do that for Matheson's 50 ish points and THREE(?) picks while they are looking to find pieces that can help them compete right now.

Particularly with retention, there are likely better options than this.</div></div>
It's also about cap though. Montreal has many really cheap players with interesting upsides. I could see CBJ be tempted by some of these prospects + picks and the idea of getting a fresh 7-8M ish cap space from moving Laine.

Draft trades
I disagree with my Habs homies there. I think I could see the habs trying to move up bit by bit like this. Vancouver 3rd round next year is probably like 80th +. I would make that move with the leafs and then try to interest another team, and probably another one after that, with the idea of getting to the top 16-17. They took Eiserman (a possible dropper) to diner last week. Maybe that's them thinking about the possibility of moving up and grabbing him if he falls!
I'd do it, but I would probably try to ship out a 4th and ask you to keep your 7th.

Draft Day hughes being hughes
Damn that would be quite the splash lol. Nice job thinking that out. So let's see.
Would any team do Guhle, 5OA for Johnson, 4OA? I think I would favor the CBJ in that deal, so if I'm the habs I say no.
Than we have Laine for 26th OA, and I don't think CBJ accepts that, so maybe if we pull both those trades together, we have an ok from both teams.
The last part of the trade is Dvo+Farrel for Svozil. I don't actually know Svozil, but Dvo and Farrel have very little value in my opinion, so the habs would win that as a cap dump. Idk what Jackets fan think of Svozil, but if they value him at all, I don't think that's a trade you go for.
So that's two no, one yes for CBJ and two yes one no for MTL.
Now if I'm MTL, we're moving up to grab a forward, so we're trading away our best defenseman, and what I assume would be a great D prospect picked at 5, and we're getting 2 great prospect at forward (4OA and Johnson) + Laine for it.
For CBJ, they are moving money away with the Laine move, and getting 1 stud Dman + 1 stud D prospect.
I think in terms of value this at least sort of works right? But then would those team really get better with moves like that? CBJ would be left with very little offensive punch and MTL really can't replace Guhle, almost all of our D prospect are offensive minded.
The next move with Arizona doesn't really make sense to me tbh, so I'm kinda ignoring that one.
