What would it take

Created by: simonveilleux
Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: May 3, 2024
Published: May 3, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I can see the Habs wanting to grab another top 15 pick to accelerate their rebuild. The only team that might be seemingly interested in trading their pick (to me) would be the Ottawa Senators. Sens fans, what would it take to get that 7th overall pick?

There's no reason for Ottawa to trade their first this year. Period.

You've been accumulating prospects for some time now. By the time the player drafted this year becomes a DOMINANT player (whether it's Dickinson, Lindstrom, Silyaev, or anyone else), some of your core players (like Batherson, Tkachuk, Chabot, Norris) will be past their prime. In my opinion, you would be better served with a slightly older prospect who is NHL-ready and a veteran.

It would probably take the Habs 2024.

Or prob Reinbacher(which is a no go for Habs).

A top 4 RD, wich we don’t have. If we target any top 10 pick, I think Seattle might be interested in Matheson and other pieces

I dont get it
WPG was eliminated what , 2nd ?
The didnt win their Division titles as they've never won one.
Doesnt that mean that when the 1st round ends and the draft rankings are updated after the Lottery
That WPG pick will move up from like 27th to top 20 after next week?

I dont see the point in trying to acquire any top 15 picks until that happens at the very least
I mean WPG isnt exactly playing for a spot at this point lol

We have not been accumulating prospects. We have been trading out picks and prospects away.

Peep the prospect pool rankings put out by any organization and then explain why OTT should trade away 7OA

23-27th for the WPG pick but likely 26 or 27th OA

Im sure you're right
How ? They went out Early and Won no Division titles
Man the way they Draw for picks is getting stupider by the year

I get Lottery makes sense to keep crap teams from always being crap
New England Patriots built a Dynasty on it as KC Chiefs in the NFL
But to me after the bottom 5 it should be based on where you finished or were eliminated from
I mean could you imagine being a GM trying to factor in all this when trading for picks ? Yikes.

I’m not being facetious when I say that I don’t think there’s anybody that Montreal would be willing to give up that Ottawa would trade their 1st this year for. Sens desperately need to start restocking the prospect cupboards with legit u20 talent

They really want quality over quantity. They need a top 4 RD

What are you talking about? The Sens have the worst prospect pool in the NHL right now.
