Ehlers bidding war

Created by: Howie
Team: 2023-24 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: May 2, 2024
Published: May 2, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Looking at some agms ehlers seems to be popular in terms of many teams offering variety of deals for him. This likely sets up a bidding war for him if jets don't think he resigns. So what team is going to make the best offer, I included teams that have had offers or past interest as well.

Jets needs are top 4 rhd current and future as well as young future impact players. Jets want to compete so massive futures won't work.

A fit imo would be VAN

As for MTL, I see the fit in the lineup, but doesn’t fit the timeline unfortunately

I imagine the Caps are out simply because whatever they offer will be outbid. The Caps likely won't part with Leonard, Cristall, or Miroshnichenko for Ehlers and I'd assume 17th overall isn't going to cut it for Winnipeg, so the Caps are pretty much out.

Yeah probably would have been 17 and cristall imo which is a lot but if Washington wants to compete ehlers is a great option

Vancouver may not have the long term cap for him especially with Hughes coming up soon and could be 14m himself

Jets would likely want something else especially as the jets need to sign hronek now vs ehlers 1 year down the road

True true (and Perry’s extension isn’t in the cap yet) but if they manage the cap, I think he fits right into the top 6 like a glove

Yeah he's a fit system wise but cap wise seems tough

For Montréal nothing unfortunatly. Love the player but he's at least 2-3 years to old for our timeline

Severson has trade protection no? And he just signed not the most realistic

He’s from Yorkton Sask, so possibly wants out after a dead last year, new gm probably wants to bring some excitement and put his stamp on the team, gets rid of some term, and last guys draft pick. Probably not done at 1 for 2, but possibly a starting point. Ehlers coming may revitalize laine, so some gambling to find the right mix to get the cannon firing. Severson and ehlers may not waive and not started at all, but potentially interesting.

Ehlers and rights to Dillon for Boeser at the draft. Canucks offer.

Sillinger and severson from Columbus is my hope

I wouldn’t trade Sillinger, he’s tough and that will play welll if we ever make the playoffs.

Vancouver would offer a 1st and a guy like Killmovich and maybe another mid round pick but I can't see it being anything more than that. Ehlers has yet to hit even 70 points in a single season, he's a good top 6 guy but he isn't going to be worth the moon

Much as I like Ehlers I doubt Buffalo makes a play there.

Weak moment was last year. He showed a lot of growth this year as a 2 way player.

Yeah probably would have been 17 and cristall imo which is a lot but if Washington wants to compete ehlers is a great option

what about 17 ovr, a late second next year, and Suzdalev?

Not enough imo jets don't really need futures for ehlers they need a legit top 4 rhd like pulock or hronek so Washington probably would need to overpay for the jets to overlook that need at rhd
