What are you smoking, you may like him more but he wont be picked above them and at least 4 Dman. He barely cracked the PPG. He may be smooth but you dont crack the top 10 with that kind of production. No one no where is even hinting at this

He's a good target but not in the same class as the fowards we can get at 5-6. Demidov, Iginla, Eiserman, Catton, Lindstrom are in a completly different tier.
I saw the rumors with MTL love for Beckett but it would be a disaster to pick him that early. No way he cracks the top 10 so if we really want him, there is a way to jump from the WPG pick to a 10-15 spot.

Montréal also needs goal badly, if he can put up 20 on a 3rd line with 2PP minutes, Harris is not a big loss even if Kaliyev can't skate IMO

I like it. Neither players fix the real problems for both teams but could benefit the change of scenery and the opportunites they would not get in their respective organization.

Just because he’s likely the odd man out (due to our center depth) doesn’t mean he’s pure negative value. Right handed faceoff specialists who can PK/PP don’t grow on trees. Pageau was also a lot better when he got bumped up to the second line. His wingers have been rotating on him basically since he got here.</div></div>
Dude, fast track the trades in the last 2 years since the cap crunch where every dollars is almost worth a 1st round pick, there is no way in hell you get something positive for a bottom 6 center at 5M for two more years, no matter how you put it.

There is absolutly no point for the habs to make this without the picks. Pageau is overpaid by at least 2.5M at this point of his career. At full price, he has 0 or negative value.
He fits neither a need or the timeline of the rebuild.

Getting tougher to play against
Why?
Newhook is 3x cheaper and his next contract will also be cheaper than Dubois's. He was on pace for a 50pts season and is likely to progress a little.
Dvorak is gone in 11 months. We need to be careful with that space since Guhle and Slafkovksky will proably command significant pay jumps and we are stock with 13M deadwood with Gallagher and Anderson.
As for being "tougher" to play against, what part of Dubois's game fit that description since his time with colombus. He showed lazyness and poor comittment in huge stretches of games both in LA and WPG.
If we manage to have some flexibility in the next 2-3 years, I would target so many other players than him. Thats all without saying that even if he bounce back, I dont think this guy can handle the "being a star quebecer player in Montréal" type of pressure.
Its easy for guys like Danault, RHP, Monty because they are cheap, work hard and didnt or dont have hughe expectations. Its much more complicated when youre an offensive player with the obligation of putting up points every night.

Wouldnt say not close, perfetti is averaging more than 0.5ppg in his 140 first games, only 22 and didnt have the best opportunites yet. I still believe he can be a very fine top 6 player.
I agree tho that Guhle should not be dealt or if he his, it should be for something much more sure even if it means we had.

overpay for Brady
Im a die hard habs fan and you couldn't be as far as an overpay right here.
- Josh Anderson has negative value.
- Since drafted Filip Mesar did not show any real progress worth trading for. IMO he lost initial value (I would not trade a 1st round pick between 25 and 32 for him). He's a fine project but best case scenario he's worth a late 1st round pick/ early 2nd or another "project".
- 5th overall is a really great asset but the chances Ottawa can pick up a player just as good as Brady or even slighty worse are very very slim.
- I dont have much to say about Mailloux because I really do think he will be a good NHL Dman.
Even when you add it all up, what do Ottawa really get out of this for trading one of the rarest pure powerfoward in the NHL?
If we want him without giving any core pieces, it has to be a huuuuuuuge overpay. Something like :
5th overall 2024
MTL 2025 pick (easily top 15)
Kaiden Guhle
Even this I can see Ottawa hang up.
You cant accept giving up that much, I get it, its a steep price but you wont get a 25 years old top 10 LW without bleeding a lot.

Pearson wont be benched from the start but I dont mind Pezzetta over him. Harris should also start instead of Lindstrom, both had underwelming performances in camp but Harris should have the edge being younger and a product of the organization

New York rangers
Monahan could finish with 10pts in 82games and that would still be a weak offer. The leadership he can bring and the defensive burden he can take from our 2 young centers makes him that much valuable. That is without saying we already have so much late picks in the next 2 drafts.
At the deadline, it's an offer worth considering if he underperforms or isnt full healthy. If he can stay healthy, I predict at least a 0.60ppg while being a very usefull 200ft player and you wont get him for that, especially under 2M.

Jets if buying at TDL
We drafted 20 players in the last 2 draft and we have 21 picks in the next 2 drafts. What you offer nonthless the asking is mostly irrelevant, espicially for weakening the RD depth chart, wich is our worst position.
Yes Barron or Kovacevich value isnt high, but that's exactly why developing them into full time NHLer is much smarter than getting low picks right now. Our deep prospects pool should only be used for acquiring top players when ready to compete again.

Yeah signing a 7x14M contract exactly when a player enters his 30's always end up aging well..
Drasaitl is top 5 league wide and will be probably for another 4-5 years. From 32 to 37, this contract might be very very bad tho, espicially since his speed is already not that great.

He is tho! Still skating and shooting like that at 35 is impressive. He may not be the player he was 3 years ago and may block some of your young guys but he's still a good Dman and a gentleman.
If you watch 82 games, you will see a couple of head scratching plays but also a lot of good ones. He's more fun to watch than Holl or Ghost at least.

True. The timing to pay for top6 players is a little off this year but for 2024-25 and 25-26 seasons, while Marchment is 28-30 years old, I think we can start to be relevant and push for a playoff spot. Even if we don't, its not like I gave up the entire farm, we have 5 2nrd round picks in the next 3 drafts.

I based my proposal on a rumour I saw. I also think that Marchment is more valuable than Petry and a 2nd but Dallas does need some help at RD. Petry at 2.4M is a good deal that fills an immediate need and Dallas have guys in the farm like Stankoven, Bourque and Stranges capable of filling the gap in a very near future. It also gives them 7.2M in cap space over the next 3 years as mentionned.

He did just had a good season without live up to the one he had in Florida. I also watched the stars in playoffs and he was so usefull even if the production was meeeh. I get that he's not a sure thing but he's far from Gallagher and Armia production vs contract wise. I feel he could thrive being the complement of Zuke and Caufield, he have what the other two miss in their game, kind of like Anderson but with more IQ.
