Rossi Jiricek

Created by: MNBassman
Team: 2024-25 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 14, 2024
Published: Apr. 14, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Saw a “rumor” about this trade from some Wild Facebook article writer guy…
I was just curious how both sides would feel about this. For me, if Jiricek is developing into what is expected, I would do it. I think the the Wild (finally) have enough center prospects that they can consider moving one for an area of need. Long term, I believe the RHD depth is by far the team’s biggest weakness.
Gaudreau and Johansson cleared waivers and will play in the AHL…or spend most of the season in the pressbox!
Spurgeon is on LTIR until I hear he actually plays next season. If Spurgeon is healthy, Bogosian can be 7th dman and probably play 20-60 games…

makes not much sense from the jacket perspective. They have a need for top pair RD and have a lot of center prospect too.

you also just dont trade a top 6 pick after 2 years

You also don’t piss off said top 6 pick and bounce home around the way Columbus has.
I get that Jackets fans may not want him dealt, but if he continues to be unhappy with how he’s treated by management then it’s a possibility he gets dealt

he'll be on the team next year.

Somehow everyone makes a big deal out of him not playing in the nhl but for a guy like edvinson in detroit somehow its chill.

There's a lot of domines that would need to fall in order for a trade like this to happen.

1. The Jackets think Jiricek's development is botched, or he's extremely unhappy (unlikely)
2. The Jackets think Rossi is a long-term upgrade on Sillinger, and can slot into the 2C Role where Silly becomes the long term 3C (possible)
3. Voronkov and Jenner go to the wing (likely)
4. The Jackets pick in the top 4 this year and select Levshunov, since Jiricek is the only RD in the system with top-pair potential, he wouldn't be available until another is in the system. (Unlikely, IMO).
5. Columbus is fine with taking another year to rebuild/retool since Levshunov isn't going to be NHL ready and Severson/Gudbranson/Boqvist aren't a top-pair defenseman. (unlikely management sees it that way)

Literally all of that would need to happen before this trade makes sense, otherwise we just keep Jiricek who's NHL-ready now. I'm not saying it's impossible, and I think there could be legs to the rumor, but a lot would need to fall into place first.

Delete, Delete, This doesn't compute. No reason for the CBJ to make this deal.

It’s not media or fans making a big deal outta him being yo-yo’d up and down - Jiricek himself made a big deal outta it. He believes he should be getting more ice time in the NHL, specifically on the PP where he’s not getting any ice time.

Sure the odds are in favour of him likely being on the team next year, but a deal wouldn’t be as surprising as some people think either

Doesn’t make sense need wise or value wise to the jackets. Easy decline

Defense is the hardest position to break into the NHL. Jiricek is a project that the Jackets aren’t giving up on. Rossi is decent but right now Jiricek has a lot more value.

If he wants to play in the NHL maybe he should play well enough to earn it. He has been AWFUL this season when with the main squad. His skating is atrocious. If he wants even a chance of making the opening day roster next year he has to work extremely hard this summer. As it stands now I think he will start the season up in Cleveland once again.

You're counting on alot there. There's no guarantee that Yurov is coming over or that he sticks.

Khus hasn't shown any offense in his 12 or so games. He's fast but that's all he has going for him right now. I know he's played with scrubs, but he doesn't even seem to have a decent shot of his own. I believe he'll get to C2 level or RW2 in a few years but not yet.

I don't know whether Bankier will be called up next year at all but you've got him as a full season C4. If we bring him up, it should be to be a C2/3. He needs to play big minutes and develop not 8 minutes a game.

We've got no depth at center in the AHL, so if any one of these 4 get hurt, that's the end of the season.

We don't have enough depth at C to trade the solid C2 that we've developed for a 3rd/4th RHD who has been down in the AHL. Chisholm has played more RD in the NHL this year than this guy and you didn't even resign him in this build.

Keep Rossi and don't do this trade.
