I don't think Seattle considers Wright for Karlsson in a 1 for 1 even for Karlsson at 50%. SEA if they really wanted to could take Karlsson at 11.5M, so paying for the retention isn't really relevant. They are better off having secured their 1 and 2C with Beniers and Wright, than having Karlsson for the next 4 years even if they were all elite.

Makes sense, figured he might be off the table altogether.

Pens don’t consider that. Granny can be bought out for $833k this season without surrendering any picks, especially a first when they have a shot at a kid like Matthew Wood.

I also think you're sending the wrong C in the Boston trade. Hertl might help them with getting a C but it doesn't look like it makes their cap structure any less complicated. I think for both SJ and BOS, a Couture trade (with 25-37.5% retention) would make more sense. That being said SJ might not want to eliminate all 3 of their retention spots for the next 2 seasons, and maybe the owner doesn't want to be spending that kind of money on retained players. Hertl would be Couture's age now after a 5-year rebuild, so probably best to move the older guy.

I figured they'd probably keep the '23 first. Would they consider the '24? Does the 1.8mm for the next 3 years after on the buyout mean anything for the Pens? Figured they want to keep as little dead cap as possible while they use the remaining competitive years with the core 3.

Couture sure makes more sense looking at it that way. My initial thought for choosing Hertl as the C to send would be production (over the next few years), age, and a little bit of the Czech connection. Either way, it'd be nice if SJ could move one of them. Figured Boston might want to maximize Pastrnak over the life of his new deal and get him a good C, assuming Bergy and Krejci aren't back.

I think every other team declines, and the only one sharks decline is the Toronto deal.

I doubt it. The buyout cost would go up but the cap is expected to go up more.

Ferraro would likely be 7th on the Devils defensive depth chart.
No reason to give a 1st for him when guys like DeMelo, Brodie or Grzelcyk could all be had for way less.

I think this would depend on how much they want karlsson, weren't they willing to move him for ROR

Wright for ROR? I can't imagine any team willing to move a high-end prospect for a rental. Wright was just drafted a year ago, he's too 3 material even if they git him at 4th, there's no reason for them to deal him except to get a young superstar, especially with all the other assets they have.

they have a lot of picks but a middle of the way prospect pool. I dont think they ever became more than rumors but the word was they were willing to include him in a ROR trade

A 1st+a couple of seconds would have been more than enough to acquire him depending on what the Leafs gave. If Wright was in the conversation there must have been another significant player with term in play. I think though that rumor is all smoke.

Thanks BTW! Gave him up for next to nothing and we’ve loved him here!
