Avs will definitely play the LTIR game. At least I hope they will lol. Giroux seems like a really good fit with landeskog out. And another D piece is needed with Girard out and the uncertainty of Byram’s health.

Colorado 2020-21
I would bump up burakovsky to the top line and Landeskog on the 2nd line. That would give burakovsky plenty of opportunity to score a bunch and that 2nd line would be nasty to play against.

There’s no doubt that colorado won that deal by a mile. But I think a lot of teams look at that and they’re more cautious about committing too much. Agree probably not enough for gaudreau but just throwing it out there if the Avs want to make a big trade, they could include him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pensfan89</b></div><div>I’m confused by your response. I never once said anyone got traded in this deal. I simply said if they were going to allow trading for the purpose of buyout on to re-sign with the original team, might as well cut out the middle man. I was simply referring to the Orpik situation.
Edit: My mistake on it not being allowed. I was reading the compliance buyout rules, not the regular buyout. However it’s still kind of cap circumventing imo</div></div>
It is shady fo sho. But if the team is still under the cap, it is allowed.. still shady. But if it's allowed go for it. Good on the flames. For stone, the guy was making too much for too long. But Carl just has one year left (he's 34 not 35) so the buyout would be for 2 years not 1. If he was 35, they would still.be on the hook for full salary against the cap. Am I wrong?

Doubt he would return at that salary. He's for sure overpaid but he's still a solid player that should be in your lineup every night. He's the perfect 3C even tho he's getting old

Agreed. And if Byram turns out to be a #1 defenseman, I believe his value and impact will be greater than marner. And he'll probably be a lot cheaper

Would be a great addition but let's be real. The only decent piece in that trade is Meloche and even he is just a throw in. They're not gonna trade him to a rival for one, and they're gonna want a good prospect or 1st round pick coming back at least. Bowers Meloche and a 1st is more likely but that doesn't help them win this year and I don't think they want to rebuild yet.

I don't 100 percent agree, yeah he had a down year but the dude has only been in the league 3 years. He's already one of the best goal scorers and He's gonna get better. I would think Carolina would be reluctant to give up necas because that leaves them weak at C. But you gotta give up a lot to get a consistant 30-40 goal scorer. I think the Jets will find a way to resign him

Even tho we added a bunch of new forwards, the 2nd line is still a big question mark. Jost, burakovsky, compher, and/or donskoi have to prove they can be consistent 2nd line players.

Fun Brayden Point trade
From an outsiders perspective, this is a very interesting trade. It's pretty fair for the most part. I think Tampa should add a more significant piece than conacher. A player that will be in the lineup every game at least. Killorn is an important part of the team but it might be a good way to get his contract off the books (I know he has a NTC but whatever). On the other side, point won't be playing with as good wingers in Detroit so it's still a bit of a gamble plus he'll be the highest paid player on the team when he signs.

Solid lineup. I hope Lehner performs well this year. Great bounce back year last year but it could be a result of the defensive system in front him

There's not a lot of (good) teams left that can pay him that. His options are very limited at this point if he thinks he's getting that.

Sam Bennett and Jesse Puljujarvi
I don't think the puljujarvi trade is gonna work. He still has high end potential but Edmonton sucks at being a hockey team and drafting/developing players so it's definitely not a good fit for him. Milano is older and has been underwhelming. Gotta add more. But I'm sure what EDM is asking for is way too much for a lot of teams.

Trade with Blues and Jets
Avs fan here. I'm curious how Zacha is developing. I haven't seen him play much but I know he hasn't produced at a high level yet. In the '15 draft I didn't think Rantanen would fall to 10 so Zacha was a guy I would've preferred at 10. Where is he at with his development and what is his ceiling at this point?

Mid season lineup
I agree with your predictions mostly. I'm a bit skeptical about the Girard-Makar pairing tho. It was a lot of fun to watch in the playoffs but I'm not sure if those two can match up for the long regular season. They are amazing players but I think they can be taken advantage of physically. We saw that against San Jose at times. Also I'd totally be okay with jost not panning out as a 2nd line player but turns out to be an above average 3rd line center. Do you think Byram makes the team? It seems like he's too good for junior but won't get a ton of ice time with the Avs. He's still only 18 tho!

You'd have to get Mikko and his agent really high for them to agree to that contract lol. Kevin Hayes just got 7m and he's never scored more than 60 points. Don't think they'd settle for anything less than 9m.

Is there a need to replace Barrie
I think if they felt Makar isn't ready to take over Barrie's role, they'd try to get Gardiner on a 1 or 2 year deal with a higher cap hit instead of giving up assets.
