Of course, no one knows for sure. If he’s going to waive anywhere though, I think this is as likely of a spot as any, that would actually have interest in him as well.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>No 5th NHL centre on the roster, no 7th NHL Dman on the roster isn't a good plan at all. Can find better value than Smith at 4,5m. Cowan can't be considered a Leafs in October.</div></div>
A 21 man roster isn’t a big deal at all. If we can get better value than Smith that works too. Just ideally want a veteran winger on 1 year that can still play. Also can’t think of any reason why Cowan can’t make the team.

Leafs can do better. Any deal involving him should either be quality players with similar term or a more standard 1st + player + prospect.
I like Oleksiak/Borgen + 1st + prospect (Nyman) personally

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jpsnow13</b></div><div>"A player wanna play with the best players as possible to increase stats and thus revenues" is a way better take than "a player could waive no trade clause just because I want to get rid of him".</div></div>
It’s mutually beneficial though. I don’t think Marner is appreciated here and the abuse he takes would take a toll on anyone. You can have your opinion, just don’t act like there isn’t a good enough reason for him to waive, there certainly is now.

He can just continue to do circles on the lake, stack up 60 assists easily on Matthews goals and get long summer vacations to spend $11M a year, like he has done his whole career so far.
He's not dumb enough to give that up just because fans are "unwelcoming" lol</div></div>
These sort of things happen despite what you think. Marner obviously doesn’t think his success hinges on Matthews, that’s a really bad take.

What a great career move waive his NMC to go play on a non contending team and look bad just before hitting free agency.</div></div>
They are 1 year removed from the playoffs. He can help get them back into the playoffs and earn his next payday. It’s a decent fit, St.Louis is too.

Not necessarily. It may be at a point now where Marner feels unwelcome and a result is willing to waive if it’s on his terms.

Agreed, but it’s of teams are going to have a bid, so unless he WANTS to be here I think it’s going to have to come with term

Robertson = 40 pts pace in a sheltered role
Both players have yet to be given a chance with top minutes or special teams, but have shown that they are good NHL pieces. What are the odds the 14th pick becomes an effective NHL player? You’re getting two pieces to build with and you don’t have to roll the dice with your 14th. You still have your top pick. Blackwood sucks, he’s a stopgap for us until Hildeby is ready. Unless he surprises.

I feel like Marner is going to stipulate a few things if he’s traded. I think he won’t want to be a part of a rebuild, and he likely won’t want anything to do with Canadian teams too, but who knows!

Minten is an extra to show we can ice more than 20 guys lol. Kokkonen is fine, but it can be anyone around that cap hit. Kampf is on LTIR cuz I didn’t want to make the effort of trading him, I figured that would be obvious, but he’s a goner. Timmins too.

He can play in the top 6 too. Biggest thing for me is that they are at least 3 lines deep, and bigger and more experienced on the blueline, come playoff time. It costs future assets, but we have a legitimate shot at keeping every single guy we trade for here. Whoever doesn't find a role gets left behind. Right now I'd argue that's Bertuzzi. Cowan, Minten, an possibly Niemela can step in next year and eat up minutes on the bottom lines for cheap. We'd be the deepest I've ever seen the Leafs.
