I just was trying to get a third line that could be physical and one that teams would hate to play against. I always found Mantha's net front presence and Bertuzzi's in your face style of play as guys you hate to play against but love to have on your team.

In hockey, are you allowed to retain salary at the end of the contract only, or does it have to be a set amount for the remainder of the contract? If it could be like 1,500,000 retained for the last 2-3 years, I'd be willing to do that

Panarin makes Anaheim instant contenders and would intrigue a lot of free agents to go there imo. Just no longer a fit in NY. Again also just basic ideas for a trade, not necessarily that they are realistic.

I think the reality is that we have seen the best from the Rangers core players. The only guy out of Kreider, Mika and Panarin keeping is Kreider just because of his NY legacy. I think they have serious conversations with each guy to retool the team.

I know for the Winnipeg deal this might not be a good trade. Just trying to see what it would realistically take to make a move like that?

I am assuming a signing for Stamkos is still in play then even after a trade like this?

I'm not entirely sure Necas is that guy who will show up during the playoffs. He has been non-existent too many playoffs in a row that the resemblance to Mika is uncanny. It's almost like what Florida did with the Huberdeau trade. That's more the premise the rangers would need. A gritty guy who can dominate in the playoffs, I'm not quite convinced Necas is that different of a player to Mika in comparison. I get the first round pick, but that's still iffy from my end (late 1st again). If they were to include Jack Drury, that would get me to come around a little more.

I'm not so sure it's that simple of a move for the Rangers either though. I think they need a guaranteed first line player coming back/a gamer who will show up during the playoffs. Necas is too similar of a player to Mika in my opinion. If it was for a Brady Tkachuk type player, I could see it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>An older more expensive player without the defensive side of the game? Why do the leafs do this?</div></div>
Again, just ideas, not saying they will happen. But player types/contract similarities are what make it more of a possibility in my opinion. Panarin's defense during the regular season was extremely underrated this season (the back check anyways). Plus this is more of a change of scenery type trade for both guys, this trade has been in the rumors for over a year now. Offensively Panarin has been statistically better than Marner based on point totals (that's where the balance comes in, age vs slightly less offensive production player).

This is just a basic framework trade. I know more would be needed, but it'd be a starting point. Plus with Tkachuk rumors coming out, not sure Ottawa would have a leg to stand on (a la Karlsson trade). Quantity over quality.

It's more just basic framework/types of players I could see them making these moves for. Probably not great values from either end, but just ideas.

Major Reconstruction
I'm more of a believer of giving these young guys a chance. I feel like we have heard so much hype around Robertson, and then they have yet to give him a chance. I am also always in favor of a bigger d man, and feel like Robertson could potentially be that guy. How do we know if we don't give him a chance?
I am also assuming you are speaking of Trouba? If so, he has a no movement clause, and I feel the only way he leaves New York is either at the end of his contract, or if he is bought out (and the likelihood of him going to the devils or isles is also then high).

Doesn't have to be Teravainen but a player of similar ilk would help. Also need to get younger and add more speed. As much as I like Trouba, his foot speed has gotten worse since he has first gotten here, and seems like at times, he wasn't able to keep up with the playoff hockey pace.

Not saying Laf is gonna put up 30 points but hes not gonna finish the season with 32 goals and around 60 points like hes approximately on pace to do rn.
Additionally the idea that he is untouchable is insane. We were at the point this summer where many thought he wouldnt even fetch a 1st in a trade so the idea that he is untouchable now makes no sense.</div></div>
It might just be me personally, but I've always been higher on Laf than I have been Kakko, and have more of a patience with him than I do Kakko. Maybe that's why. Never bought that hype in the summer anyways unless it was him straight up for a gamechanger.

I agree with this, especially if you have been watching the games recently. He has a lot more confidence with the puck. And has a willingness to both shoot and go to the front of the net. Things us as fans have been clamoring for him to do.

I think the headliners from that trade were Stutzle and Norris. If Kakko = norris, I think it's reasonable to say Sykora, Othmann, and a first round pick = stutzle.

Additionally, to get untouchable players like Drai you gotta move untouchable players. A drai trade would need Mika and Laf, or some other equivalents. Then more</div></div>
For a year and a half though? I mean Zib is signed for like 5 more years, laff has team control for 4 more I think, plus three first round prospects and a top second round pick (seen as a high upside prospect in the system), plus a goalie who has the potential to start I feel like is fair. I think Mika and Laf would not be an option for Drury.
