These are just basic frameworks, I know some of these trades are bad, just first thoughts on this

The Canes trade is interesting. Certainly gives Carolina what they need but is NYR really willing to move Zibanejad? Are these teams willing to trade two big ticket items to a rival? Also Necas will want more money but you have the cap to give it to him.

Why on earth would ANA trade Gauthier? or any young player near his value for Panarin? (who will be 33 come next season)

Ducks are not a trade fit for Breadman

I think the reality is that we have seen the best from the Rangers core players. The only guy out of Kreider, Mika and Panarin keeping is Kreider just because of his NY legacy. I think they have serious conversations with each guy to retool the team.

Panarin makes Anaheim instant contenders and would intrigue a lot of free agents to go there imo. Just no longer a fit in NY. Again also just basic ideas for a trade, not necessarily that they are realistic.

Yeah I actually like this deal for Carolina - the only hangup I could see is the value of that contract for Mika in the last couple of years. But I think I would be pleased if that were the Necas deal.

In hockey, are you allowed to retain salary at the end of the contract only, or does it have to be a set amount for the remainder of the contract? If it could be like 1,500,000 retained for the last 2-3 years, I'd be willing to do that

I’d do this, after taking Cutter out of the deal!

Agreed. I center depth of Aho, Zibanejad, Kuzy, Staal is pretty stacked. Also love the profile pic, hope we can retain Noesen and bring back the 25th anniversary jerseys.

he really doesnt, Panarin doesnt take a bottom 3 team to contender status, McDavid doesnt even do that

Hah, thanks - its from that playoff goal last season with the luckiest of bounces against the Isles.... not to hijack - I like Noesen, but feel some team will overpay him this offseason (his skating worries me long term, hes not a great skater now, that doesn't improve with age lol)

No, he really doesn't, and he torpedos our window.

Then I would probably take the conditional second round pick out as well as the fifth.

It's true, we've already seen that he doesn't he was on the oilers for years before he made them a true contender (discounting 16/17 as they missed the next couple of seasons after that attempt)

A 120 point player torpedoes a window?

He's going to be 33 at the start of next season, and only has two seasons on his contract, and you're asking for the two guys on our roster he would be passing to to get all those assists, one of whom we expect to be a star producer for us for the next decade.

Yeah, that torpedos the rebuild

Prob has to be 2, he's not a 7M dollar player and has 2 years left, it's workable though

I'm torn on the Provorov trade. The point of him being on the team is that we keep him around until Mateychuk's ready to break in and then trade him to make room; the idea wasn't to swap him for other roster players. But at the same time, Lindgren looks kind of interesting, and while I don't exactly have faith in Kakko myself I can see why some people might want to attempt the gamble. And yet on the other other hand, we have a huge logjam at wing such that Kakko is unlikely to get any useful minutes here and Lindgren would have to prove himself almost immediately or else we've not actually solved the problem and now we're less likely to recoup our costs. So I'm kind of going back and forth on this one.

I’d much prefer to hold onto him until the deadline and take the best package of picks possible half retained. That buys mateychuk time in the A and maximizes his return. Like you said this just creates a log jam

That's fair. I'm just kind of slightly dying of desperation for any blueliner that looks like they could potentially distantly resemble a shutdown guy that isn't Gudbranson. If we don't sign a Roy this offseason my head might explode.
