Decent Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Birtle34</b></div><div>Jets could be another potential spot for Carlson depending on waiving I believe. Don’t have a marner, but possibly a deal to be found. Need someone on the rhd side, not crazy term and got some partners lined up with limited offense and can hold down the d zone.</div></div>
Who would be on the table there? Perfetti? Connor? I know those are big names but we are talking Marner on this post so I am curious

Decent Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>All_Knowing</b></div><div>While I would agree that the Caps should accept this, I cannot wait for all the Carlson haters to see how the team is without him. Carlson is so important to the Caps - you saw that last season when he was injured how poorly they played AND also this season, when he ate 26+ minutes a night for the final ~2months of the season.
Yes, he makes some horrible mistakes, but just be prepared to miss him when/if he's gone...</div></div>
I know what you are saying but what if we were able to do the trade for Marner and get someone like Montour to slot in as the number 1 defenseman. He is absolutely capable of doing what Carlson does

I think the caps would retain 2 million if they got to keep a pick. They are in a situation with a good amount of Cap space currently so why not

He might, he had a solid season but I would prefer to have Strome with Ovi and get McMichael back on the second line with Miro and Wilson. If that is the situation at the beginning of the year I could see him becoming a very good 2nd line center

Ping Pong balls to 11
Canes package is light for Necas,
Byram is going to want more (5.5 range I would think).
If you are bridging Quinn I would think you would be looking in the 4.5 neighborhood if he stays healthy. And that is on a 2 year deal most likely.
Peterka will also get somewhere in that same neighborhood.
Other than that not too bad.
But you are telling the Canes poster that they wont have enough money to pay everyone, you are going to put yourself in the same situation when these bridge deals expire and you will need to make some trades

No, Lemay and Gucciardi plus HHA and Geisser, But look at the roster. We have three young talented 24 yr old defensemen on the left side. We do not need anymore in the system for the time being. We can draft them in later rounds to fill that position out. We need to focus on building our next offense after the Ovi era or get some more talented RHD (we have Chesley now but we could get another to help with the aging side of our d-core

Wait so you have Detroit giving you a very promising former 6th overall pick, young defenseman and paying more for Girard? How does that make sense?

Caps fan here. DEAL no take backs.
This would be perfect for me because I am so ready for the Caps to get rid of Carlson. I don't care about the offensive production he has, he is terrible in the D-Zone and on odd man rushes. Get him gone

This fantasy is out of control with the Ducks wanting Leonard. If you wanted him so badly why not just draft him instead of Carlsson. The fact that you are so stuck on Leonard is wild. Feels like the Leafs fans constantly asking for Tom Wilson

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tmljk22</b></div><div>He won't be but he also will be extremely close given that he was leading into a extremely invasive spinal surgery. I mean look at Meier or Tkachuk or even Guentzal. The deal you presented is only competitive with the Guentzal deal which was essentially pure rental at the deadline.</div></div>
If the Hurricanes re-sign Jake than I think it is closer to that than the Eichel deal. But If Jake walks I agree Marner will get a better package

As an outside party to these I would say they seem pretty equal. Although I do think you are overpaying a bit on Zegras. But Ducks fans are so high on him its crazy

Probably looking at Lapierre being a requirement to get that deal done, not necessarily in this package, but in general. For Necas I would absolutely offer Lapierre along with a first and maybe a third. I don't know if that is close but I would entertain that

The only trade i would want the caps to go after would be Necas but the Canes probably will not trade him. They have stated they want to sign Jarvis and Necas no matter what, even before offering Jake an extension

Utah 2024 Roster Shuffle
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tmljk22</b></div><div>Yes, they should shake up the core but that trade may as well be Marner for Schmaltz straight up, it's no where near even diminished value for Marner. Think about every star player traded in the past and then build around those trade frameworks. Because the one this resembles the most is Eichel with Schmaltz being the Tuch of the trade but instead of Krebs, a first, second and third, its a bunch of nothing</div></div>
I can understand that point but I do not think he will get quite as much as Eichel.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DH28Hockey</b></div><div>I've long thought Washington is the team that's going to take Connelly. They have a long history of taking guys that other teams had major concerns about to take swings on upside (Lapierre with concussions, Miro with Hodgkins, Cristall with translatability, etc)</div></div>
I would agree with the idea of them taking Connelly, but I think they vet everyone they draft in the first round or two very well. If Miro was healthy and did not have that diagnosis he was seen as a top 10 player in the draft. The Capitals looked at raw talent there and saw someone they felt was worth their pick.

Leafs trade: cmonnnn, besides schmaltz, those other 5 pieces mean nothing. There has to be at least a first & top prospect or leafs will just hold imo. Quality > Quantity</div></div>
Personally I do not see it that way. I think they need to make a change and dismantle that core. Take the best offer but make something happen. Don't be happy with the Status Quo of making the playoffs just to take an L to the Bruins every single year

Give me a run down of what makes them brutal.
Caps trade: Utah moves a goaltender that had rough numbers for another with rough numbers but gains a shutdown RHD and a 2nd rounder.
Leafs trade: Utah gets another top line player to pair with Keller and the Leafs add a good top 6 winger/center option, a former 2nd round prospect in the Russian system, a heavy playoff style center to help them down the stretch and multiple pretty decent picks

The Caps do not need LHD at all. All three of their LHD are under 25 and they have 3 coming out of college that will be going to Hersey/South Carolina. Plus Hardy-Aktell is still an RFA for us. We definitely need either RW or RHD
