Interesting idea. Do you think the the Caps would be willing to retain any salary? That would make the trade more appealing. To take out a second and get him at 6 mill

I think the caps would retain 2 million if they got to keep a pick. They are in a situation with a good amount of Cap space currently so why not

IM down to pay pretty much whatever to acquire Marner but I cant see the caps moving Carlson

I don't see a way in which this doesn't result in it being an abject disaster for the Leafs.

That defense would be atrocious. It wasn't great last year, but you take out the guys who led the whole NHL in minutes played and replace him by calling up Iorio and it's one of the worst bluelines in the league, especially offensively.
