Three teams would be a red flag for some players, but Columbus and Winnipeg are hard markets for some players. If he was pushed off two other winning clubs, it would be more worrisome…but they both kind of stunk while he was a member.
Also…he does have connection to Hughes’ (including Jim’s camp).</div></div>
With all respect I think the argument you made, actually makes the idea of trading for Dubios even worse. The issue isn't that he didn't want to resign in Columbus or Winnipeg as an RFA, that's completely fine I have no problem with that. The issue is his lack of effort at times, which has been noted in LA, and more importantly that he's QUIT on teams in the past to force his way out- specifically Columbus.
It also shouldn't matter how good the teams were, if he came to NJ and the Devils struggle, does that mean he'll pack it in and force his way out again? This isn't a one off, it's 3 teams now, and the fact that there was even a discussion about potentially buying him out after year 1 of an 8yr deal, should tell you everything you need to know.
BTW all 3 of the teams he played on went to the playoffs at least once, so it's not like they were horrible.
TLDR: PLD is supremely talented, but a headcase that I wouldn't want any part of.

Hard pass on Dubios. I wouldn't offer a 1st round pick for him, I wouldn't even take him if LA attached a 1st to get rid of him.
Yes, he's very talented but he's been on 3 teams and he's been an issue for each of them, that's impressive for someone who hasn't turned 26.

Whats The Asking Price For Akira Schmid
I mean he had a down year this year (along with every other devils goalie), so it's probably not too high. However given his age and previous success, I doubt NJ trades him unless it's in a package to get a veteran player (specifically goalie)

I'm good with bringing in Hayes but not for a 2nd round pick. STL only paid a 6th to get from PHI and that was with 50% retention.
Pass on PLD, he's been a headcase for 3 organizations now and he's not even 26

Taking advantage of cap crunch
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>Fitzgerald should operate to make the team in the best possible spot. If a goalie like Ullmark is available at a reasonable price, go for it. But I would strongly hope he doesn't overpay on a goalie just for the sake of some casual fans and a percieved risk of losing his job (which I don't think he will regardless)</div></div>
I get what you're saying, but I think you're looking at this too narrowly and not seeing the big picture, because if you think Fitz is 100% safe even if they miss the playoffs again next year, I think you're wrong. This team just missed the playoffs by a fairly significant margin, primarily due to poor goaltending.
Were there other factors involved? Sure, but goaltending was the biggest issue and Fitz was the one who failed to address that position both in the offseason and during the season. Forget casual fans. If Fitz doesn't add a proven veteran starter in net and goaltending costs the team a playoff spot again, Devils ownership is not going to be okay with that. Failing to address a position of weakness 2 years in a row is a fireable offense. Plus, at the TDL Fitz alluded to making a big move in net during the offseason so I think he knows he's gotta do something.

Fitz's job is essentially on the line next year, so I can't see him going into next season with that goalie tandem, in spite of them playing relatively well this year. Besides that, I like the moves.

Swayman might be the only goalie that I'd be okay with the Devils trading this year's 1st round pick for (as long as they don't win the lottery). But like you said I doubt Boston would consider moving him.

NJD didn't get fleeced on the Zacha trade, it was a win win for both teams. Zacha wasn't going to work out with NJ, he was never going to be a top 6 C for them. Haula has been a great fit for NJ and Zacha has been a great for Boston.

Room For Greatness

Schmid was supposed to be at least a 1B this year, but he struggled. Though I think the Devils inconsistent defense and poor coaching didn't do him any favors.
I think he still has a bright future, but considering the Devils immediate need in net, I'd be fine with trading Schmid if we can acquire a proven #1 goalie.

I don't know about Byfield, but there's no way that Pittsburgh trade would happen. Even if Crosby were available, Pens would need Montreal's 2024 1st, especially if you're expecting them to throw in Letang and dump Anderson on them lol.

Goaltending
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>He got extended in the middle of this season, so I think he has plenty of job security for next year or two. And as long as we stay healthy, add depth, we should be better.</div></div>
John Hynes got fired less than 12 months after an extension, so I wouldn't say Fitz is necessarily safe. NJ has more than enough talent to make the playoffs, but they're about to miss the playoffs mainly due to not addressing their goaltending. This was a big step back and that's on Fitz.
Fitz can't go 2 straight offseasons without making a significant addition in net. And as much as I like him, a soon to be 37yr old Talbot is not the answer.

That makes no sense. Why wouldn't NJ just bring in a goaltender and have Allen be the backup? Allen is cheap and is a better option than Daws and Schmid to be the backup.

I don't see that happening. I think the Devils are going to make a big goalie trade, whether it's Markstrom, Ullmark, etc. Goaltending cost the devils a playoff spot this year, Fitzgerald knows that if he doesn't make a big move in net and the Devils miss the playoffs again, he's going to get fired.
