If Fitz goes into next season with this goaltending tandem, he's going to get fired if NJ gets off to a slow start.

He got extended in the middle of this season, so I think he has plenty of job security for next year or two. And as long as we stay healthy, add depth, we should be better.

John Hynes got fired less than 12 months after an extension, so I wouldn't say Fitz is necessarily safe. NJ has more than enough talent to make the playoffs, but they're about to miss the playoffs mainly due to not addressing their goaltending. This was a big step back and that's on Fitz.

Fitz can't go 2 straight offseasons without making a significant addition in net. And as much as I like him, a soon to be 37yr old Talbot is not the answer.

If fitz makes good decisions the team should be in a better spot.

Trading massive assets for a goalie who then may also sucks is an even quicker path to being fired

I have no idea why people want fitz to be obsessed with Malkin shortsighted moves to “save his job” rather than putting the team in the best position

Not suggesting Talbot is the answer, but I don’t feel they need to overspend for a year of Saros or two years of Markstrom. We can complete with good goaltending…reliable goaltending…doesn’t need to be elite.

If anything, Fitzy playing the long-game is probably what earned him the extension.

And if I had to pick between a rock-solid blue-line or a rock-solid goalie, I’d take the former every time. We need to get back to controlling the game through possession, and to do that, we need better puck control out of our d-men.

(Also Hynes was a coach, which usually has less job security than a GM).

He has only made one move that I disliked (Yegor/Tofffoli)…the rest, including the trades and signings he did not make, were good calls imo.

I think the toffoli trade was worth a shot, I was fine with it as a full season rental try, still am. The season didn’t go as intended due to injuries and such, and he played it smart by moving on.

Frankly based on his offseason, I had Yegor valued at a 2nd or so.

Traded away a 2nd+3rd+5th of value imo, tried them, and when the season went south traded them away for a 2nd+3rd+4th.

My biggest critiques are not promoting Brunette, and frankly not bringing back Jesper Boqvist. I hated letting him walk at the time and still do. He’s looked quite good in Boston. It seems small but I think when you look back at the games by Tierney, Nosek, and Willman. We’d have been MUCH better off with boqvist. Especially his speed.

Losing his speed, mcleods speed, and woods speed all in 1 season was big

Love all of this as gibb said. How bout Ullmark though instead of Cam. Keep some of that smaller stuff the ncaa signings and tinordi. Making room for Luke the next yr is lean!
