This deal gives WPG cap space to explore a RHD in free agency like Carrier or Montour. Unfortunately the best of Pulock has come and gone. He's had a lot of injuries and can't really skate or contribute offensively like he used to

If Lee were to waive his NTC Isles probably say yes.

If Appleton can get better at faceoffs then that deal is not too bad for the Isles. Their middle six needs a shakeup and if he can replace for Pageau (who I believe will be traded regardless of what else happens for NYI) then this could be a useful trade for both the present and down the road. Obviously picks would probably have to be adjusted for fairness because it seems like WPG is giving more than they're getting here.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>swinny</b></div><div>The one thing that does work for the Isles is that blueline..... One of the better top 4's in the NHL imo.... and that excludes Mayfield. Why the Islanders hang around. Which would make one think Sorokin would be lights out, which last year he was not.
I think that is in large part because last season, beyond the top two lines, the Islanders simply could carry the play. Hemmed in the D zone if you will.
Maybe a more balanced offense helps that? We will see.</div></div>
In hindsight knowing that Mayfield broke his foot on Opening Night definitely makes more sense. I think a full season of Roy's system will improve them for sure. This might be a hot take but a healthy Mayfield and Reilly could be one of the best third pairs in the league. If Pelech/Pulock don't regress then I absolutely agree that they will be in the mix. Tsyplakov is a wild card for now but if he can be a 15-goal 35-point guy then that could be huge. The regular season scapegoats (Lee and Pageau) upped their game against Carolina in the playoffs but the Isles were still pretty considerably outmatched. I'm really interested in seeing what they do with those picks because it seems like the consensus is Lou did really well to add another second in that fashion.

If Lou decides to keep the picks and add to the farm I really like this approach. Yes fans will be upset because some are convinced "changes" are coming but 2025 seems like the real time for that. Nelson/Palmieri become free agents and Lee/Pageau's contracts become much more palatable as trade pieces since they only have a year remaining. Both Vrana and Kubalik make sense as cheap low-risk options to me as well and If one of them are able to play with Horvat and Barzal (or Palmieri as you did) I think they are good enough to make 3rd/4th in the Metro again with a full year of Roy. Sorokin also can't be as bad as he was this season again right??

Jelly isles
Remove the fifth and change the second to a third and that's what many think could work. The Isles also got a lot of good bottom six production from Kyle MacLean so he probably slots in as the 4C for somewhere around 900K-Million and either Holmstrom makes it in the lineup or I could see Lou going for someone like Lomberg for the fourth line.

Lou would be a fool not to accept that Ehlers deal. Getting replacements for Pageau and Pulock built in for the extra second they picked up makes a lot of sense IMO

I don't see the Isles trading Romanov personally, but I think he would be a perfect partner for Faber on your top pairing if it ever happened.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Db1899</b></div><div>This is a brutal trade for the islanders.
Dobson is significantly better than chychrun. Tkachuk is great but wingers don’t have nearly as much impact as #1 RD</div></div>
I see your point but Dobson is a player where I need to see it to believe it. Yes the point totals were an improvement but he ran out of gas as the season went on and his bad habit of costly turnovers really started to come up (no bigger example than overtime at Metlife versus the Rangers and against Carolina). I would not pay him anything over 8x8 unless he can really take a step forward next season. Tkachuk-Horvat-Barzal would be a top flight first line that can stack up to almost anyone in the league. It reminds me a lot of Landeskog-MacKinnon-Rantanen or Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cmarch</b></div><div>I view it as this: Chychrun for a 1st and Dufour. Tkachuk for Dobson, a 1st, Pageau (salary), and Wahlstrom. Maybe I'm another prospect or 2nd round pick off but it's really close and I'd do it in a heartbeat. Tkachuk and Chychrun are awesome fits here</div></div>
I totally agree. Maybe find a way to get another right-handed defenseman (would prob have to require moving Pelech which is difficult) into the fold but that top six is really darn good. If Tsyplakov can become a contributor and MacLean continues to develop then I'm not too worried about the bottom six

That is ballsy...but a player like Dobson is probably what Ottawa would require to even think about it. You may even have to replace Dufour with Danny Nelson or a different prospect and/or add more picks to really make them think about it.
