I wish but no way KJ gets swapped 1 for 1 for McMichael

The islanders trade would be hilarious
idrk why CBJ would go for the Johnson/McM swap unless they really soured on him -- I like McMichael a lot but it's not like he's been without flaws so far either
I'd want to keep the 3rd to take on KK

Nevermind the value discrepancy of the trade proposed, Kent Johnson also underwent major shoulder surgery near the end of the season and will be rehabbing throughout the summer and likely into next year. Teams do not trade players while they are rehabbing after surgery unless there are major extenuating circumstances, nor do teams acquire players in such a state.

Why? McM plays a more important position and had a better season. Not saying its a 1 for 1 but its gotta be close

Because it's not close. McM is two years older, less pedigree, less skill, and has yet to top what KJ did as a rookie winger on the third worst team in the league in 22-23.

Its closer than not close at all, but it depends on how much Columbus values McMichael as a future 2c. I believe he can and probably will fill that role but in my opinion we are sending back at least a second rounder. Kinda makes me want to give that a crack. Watch out for one coming from me with more value going back to the Jackets.

Bring it on. I agree there's probably something that could be worked out, especially with the Jackets' appetite for London Knights. But one for one? Not close.

It's not unreasonably far off, but Columbus is looking for quality (i.e. a top-6 winger) over quantity (i.e. a middle-6 center and a pick). Could something be worked out? Sure. But if it's KJ and McM as the centerpieces, I think it's going to take an overpay for Columbus to consider it based on team needs.

Besides, we have Fantilli, Sillinger, Jenner, and Voronkov as capable top-9 centers already. It's just not really a need, or an interest, IMO.

It's almost more likely that WSH, if you're looking for younger NHLers now, send McM to Columbus for something like Texier, Boqvist, and a pick. That would be the likely quantity-for-quality direction of the trade.

I personally cannot see the Capitals doing that as McMichael is still young. It would need to be more like Voronkov and Chinakhov for the Capitals to want to move McMichael for a couple pieces.

And trust me I understand if that is a no go also but I feel like it would be closer than KJ for McM

I don't think I would trade both of those pieces for a winger. For all we know Cristall is going to be a legit top 6 nhl winger and McM is already in the top 6 of the Capitals

Yeah, that would definitely be a no-go considering Voronkov alone is a better producer already on a worse team as a pure rookie and virtually the same age. But if you (rightfully) view McM and Voronkov as about equal, I 100% see why you'd be hesitant to part with him. Columbus probably just isn't the best target.
