Maybe because we don’t feel we should have to explain why a team wouldn’t trade the top free agent they’ve ever signed two years into his seven year deal?

Marner to Seattle

But I am surprised Washington state is on that list!</div></div>
Yeah, Washington is definitely the outlier, but even then, I'm not really surprised that a far-west state with a lot of public land and frontier-like space is on this list. Outside Seattle/Tacoma, Washington state is basically Idaho, which is extremely right-wing. New Hampshire might be New England but they're very leave-me-alone libertarian-right wing there, so I'm not surprised to see them on the list. And neither Wyoming nor North Dakota has enough people for income tax to matter anyway.

Nope, they're correct. Nine states — Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming — do not levy a state income tax.

Necas and Sam Dickinson
KJ for Necas is kind of a wash, nor do I see KJ being a fit for RBA.
I can be convinced about Dickinson, especially if Demidov and Levshunov are gone.
Would absolutely love to bring Gavi back as well.

Marner first, but if Tre still asks the other team, Columbus still passes.
The second one is interesting as an outsider to both teams. Toronto probably passes because they need the depth skaters and already have a competent goaltender in Woll they'll probably want to roll with.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>I think you're giving a lot for Necas, would remove the 2nd and the retention on Provorov (but if the retention is what it takes then not a big issue if they have this much cap free). If this wasn't Trade All the Russians, Marchenko + the 2nd probably gets it done as well. I would also think that you could offer Provorov + the 2nd and maybe get away with it.</div></div>
I'm sure there's a Canes fan in these comments I can't see right now saying this is a pathetic underpay and it starts with 4OA and Fantilli.

Potential price to move up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jacketsman61</b></div><div>Could you imagine if we hired Holland and he didn’t have a say in who we drafted at 4OA? Not likely. If it is an experienced GM they will likely want to have a say on that pick.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dk325</b></div><div>You're not getting that the new GM can literally be blocked from participating by his previous team as a requirement for allowing him to be hired. It's not a debate, it's an a or b thing based on what the previous team mandates.</div></div>
Exactly. It’s essentially a non-compete, and when the industry only involves 32 maximum jobs who all have to work together, honoring things like that is critically important.
If it’s Hunter or someone else currently outside the NHL, then sure, no restrictions. But if it’s Tulsky or Holland or Bergevin or someone we haven’t publicly even heard mention of, I’d be surprised if the Hurricanes, Oilers, or Kings didn’t request that courtesy in exchange for letting their employee go.

Potential price to move up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jacketsman61</b></div><div>I can tell you the new GM will certainly have the final say on the 4OA pick. He will rely on the current scouting staff for scouting reports but the decisions will come from the new GM.</div></div>
Unless his hiring is contingent on him recusing himself from the draft, like Treliving with the Leafs last summer. It's pretty common for new GMs hired out of other orgs not to do much for the draft the same summer they're hired.

Compared to some of the other larger fanbases on here, Wings fans are pretty knowledgeable and reasonable. Even their hot-take machine. The trade just makes sense for both sides, and they recognize that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kysovich</b></div><div>In my opinion, Columbus is an overcrowded mess, they need to do something.... to move in the right direction... or they going to lose all those valuable prospects... there are only so many spots on the team... just like the Kings starting to loose their high-valued prospects if they don't move them for the right fit...</div></div>
So they should trade the actual best player on the team for some late picks, a bust, a C-grade-at-best prospect, and a Finnish guy with an approximately .7% chance of coming to North America? And that's ignoring the fact he's got a full NMC and no interest in moving anyway. He's the player you make all the other moves around, not the one you move out. I mean I know you're a Kings fan so you don't understand asset management after watching Blake fumble the bag, but come on. You don't get to be condescending like "Columbus is such a mess and I'm just trying to help them" then propose a trade that makes them actively worse.
Also, Werenski and DuBois do not like each other, and Mr. Dubious is your problem for most of the next decade.

I'd rather hold on to Laine in hopes of a rebound for now than to take on the KK anchor. 28OA and a bottom six winger don't make up the difference for me (and I like Fast a lot).

I am interested to see what Drouin does this summer. He's definitely worth more than 2 million, but I wonder if he takes lower-value deals to stay in Colorado. It's very clearly the best place for him to be.
