Really? You wouldn't take a Saros for Marner trade? A top 5 goaltender and using the spare cap space on a top defenseman would be one of the smartest things you could do. Nylander is a top line player that could easily plug in for Marner and you don't lose a step

I agree it is logical to move him

No Domi is rough. Also not sure about the D, but definitely an upgrade for the playoffs.

Would he waive his NMC for Nashville?

Better tax situation and a playoff team. I can think of worse situations. If it comes with an extension, I would think Nashville might be a top choice.

Love Jarnkrok, but I think we're more interested in getting cap space for our top six and RD by moving Sheary than acquiring a roster player making roughly the same.

I agree with this. I think Nashville and Vegas should be the two targets.
Everyone can say he won’t waive but if the leafs stop babying him and tell him there is no extension being offered, we want to move on, we can do that now or next summer, why would he want to stay? If he has to find a new team anyways I assume he will want to get an extension this summer. Marner needs his money over anything else.

It’s not a matter of babying him. It’s a simple as letting him low the truth, We aren’t planning on offering an extension. Are their teams you would be willing to go to if they offered an extension?

Get the list and try to maximize your return. Marner could make this very difficult for them

Doesnt matter if he'd waive, Trotz isn't moving Saros for a 12m winger we don't need. If he was a natural center? Sure! It's not happening.

You could absolutely use another scoring threat. You’d prefer a center but ROR and Novak are solid. Are you able to pursue Lindholm or Stephenson with your current cap situation?

I would like to know your source on that. I think Trotz would defnitely trade Saros for Marner straight up. Askorov is ready to take the reigns.

I would change your title and logic because in fact no trades for Marner are bad. He is toxic at the moment and just needs a fresh start, Leafs need the cap for goalies and RHD studs.

They will get something back but in fact just the cap space is worth trading him.

I dont get all this talk, if I am Marner's agent I am saying dude this is gonna lose us money, we gotta get out and go some place and kick ass, get them into the playoffs.

Prediction: Marner will be the next Kadri/Hyman/Joshua/etc etc etc that goes elsewhere and does just fine in the playoffs.

Ok rant over...

Oh I completely agree with this. Marner will go elsewhere and perform and stick it to us but that’s fine, can’t keep him cause we’re afraid he will be good for someone else.

Can’t imagine what the media will be like all year if he refuses to waive. Won’t be good for him.
Only way he stays is management doesn’t want to move him, in which case they should all be fired.

Askarov isn’t ready. We’ve seen what happens when you rush goalie prospects. He needs to be eased into the role. His timeline aligns with Saros’s contract.

We could use more scoring, certainly. But the RW is our most full position prospect wise. ROR isn’t a long term option and Novak is, what, a 40+ point guy? Our biggest hole is down the middle and I’d rather use Saros to help that. Either that, or getting stronger on our RD.

The Predators would never consider trading Saros for Marner but they'd definitely consider trading him for Nylander.

I tend to agree with this logic with most young goaltenders
