It's a 2018 3rd rounder. They currently have all of their own picks for that year.
I did my research. ;)
But, then again, I will concede that to probably make this deal work with Minny, Toronto might also have to give up a later round pick of their own. Like a fifth or sixth in 2018.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Barathrum_Obama</b></div><div><i>That Reimer contract is too cheap.</i></div></div>
It's hard to gauge whether it is or not. The goalie market will be weak so Reimer's contract demands will definitely come down. He isn't getting the $4 million a year that he wants. I think he could probably get around $2.85 million at most.
Giving up Crawford isn't ideal but this scenario could potentially work. The possibility of a cap overage due to bonuses is scary, though.
Hjalmarsson is a LHD so he should be there, TVR next to him, and Pokka as the third pairing RHD.
Not bad, man.

DARLING
I would be shocked if Brouwer signed for two years to any team. He's probably looking to cash in on his playoff performance this year and wants term. He'll probably demand 4-5 years at least.
If I were Calgary then I would trade the 6th overall pick for Corey Crawford in a heartbeat.
For Chicago? Doesn't make sense for them, especially when they don't have anyone in their pipeline that could replace him.
If you want to include a trade to Anaheim for someone like Anderson than I could see it making a little more sense but I highly doubt Anaheim trades Anderson to another contender in the same conference.
Maybe trading Teuvo for Ben Bishop works for them in the short term, but yeah, trading Crawford isn't worth it for the Blackhawks.

Yandle to Boston
I really don't like the Backes deal for the Bruins. He's leaving his peak performance age, and with that contract, it pretty much says they won't be resigning Marchand, whose a younger and better player than Backes.
While I don't see the Jets making that deal (would probably need to give up either Vatrano or Pastrnak instead of DeBrusk, who isn't high-end enough of a prospect) it's not outrageous by any means.
Other than that it's pretty solid. If you keep Pastrnak and Vatrano and sign Vesey then those three along with Bergeron and Krejci and Rask and Subban are a great core to build off.
Unfortunately (for you as a Bruins fan), I don't have any confidence that the management will be savvy enough to truly make this team a perennial contender.

How many Rookies can fit on this team
I like Barrie a lot, but with expansion coming, it'll leave C. Carrick and Marincin vulernable. I just don't think the timing is right this summer to specifically target a RHD.
Also, when it comes to Sparks, I think he showed during the last stretch of final games that he isn't capable of backing up an NHL team anytime soon.
I do however think that with expansion coming we should target a young promising goalie from a team with an already established goaltender. I really like what I've seen from Calvin Pickard, and since it's the Avs and they're bad at management, we might be able to steal him for a package of prospects that they might overvalue due to size and truculence. LOL.
Also, both JVR and Matthews love controlling the puck so I doubt they'd work well on the same line. Switch him out with Komarov and I think that's a solid top six for now.
Everything else is pretty good.
Looking forward to reading more ideas from you.

Perfect Summer
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BruinsGuyFYI</b></div><div><i>Seems like your idea of perfect is pretty attainable. I'm hoping your wrong on Vesey though, we need him in Boston.</i></div></div>
Yeah, I think it's most likely going to be between the Leafs and Bruins for Vesey. I really like him, too, and think he would be a boost to both teams.
I definitely think I'm being practical. I personally would love to add Stamkos (who wouldn't?!) but the cap space isn't there.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div><i>If Pickard is a NHL goalie, and young and inexpensive, the Avs aren't going to take that little in return for him (although I like the three Marlies) Can't see other teams taking on cap space with those Leafs without having to give money back to the Leafs. Bozak is still a handy guy for the Leafs to have till Nylander and Matthews are transitioned in to NHLers.
Michalek has a total NMC clause with the Leafs....If he wanted to go to the Swiss League OK, but he probably wants to play as a Leaf and then get traded at the deadline to contender for his last NHL action.</i></div></div>
With the Avs, I think you have to put it into perspective that it's the Avs! LOL. They're one of the worst run teams in the league, however, I do think it's a reasonable offer considering how much Roy loves his Russian and French players. Soshnikov is the kind of player Roy loves to use and Gauthier is the 6'4" centre that Roy would overpay to acquire.
The reason I sent Michalek to the Swiss League is rumors I've read online that suggest he would prefer to go there either now or eventually. It would be nice for the Leafs and fit into my "perfect summer" theme.
Matthews performed very well in the Swiss League himself so I highly doubt he'll have much trouble fitting into an NHL top 6 role ASAP.
Nylander also proved with his 20+ game NHL stint at the end of the year that he's more than capable of playing in the NHL as a centre.
I really don't think Bozak is needed. I do think it's going to be VERY HARD to move him in the summer but, again, this is playing into my "perfect summer" ideal scenario.

Because of those five deals it forces the Leafs to move other RFA assets that are no longer waiver exempt.
Losing players to waivers is bad asset management.
Leave the bad GMing to Jim Benning.

Another Idea (Taking Into Account Expansion) Pt. 2
Toronto would only consider including the 2017 1st round pick if it were lottery protected. Making that deal without it only to lose out on Liljegren would be devastating.
Pretty fair otherwise, though.

I do agree that the goalie market has been pretty weak for a while now, but also: Leivo and Harrington and Percy all no longer have waiver exempt status starting next season. With five 1 year deals (Robidas, Michalek, Greening, Laich, and Hunwick) left on the main roster it puts the Leafs in a situation where they have to package these RFAs instead of potentially losing them for nothing. Another team could definitely take advantage here.

Bibeau's not good; his rebound control's abysmal and I wouldn't mind seeing him sent to the ECHL permanently. I think Sparks proved this year that he needs a lot more seasoning. He isn't ready to play as an NHL backup. I think Sparks still has promise to be a backup but probably not for another couple of years at least. Kasimir Kaskisuo is the better athlete of the three goalies but we haven't seen enough of him to assume anything. Next year for him should be interesting. Also in my post, I made it clear that I would have changed Carrick's contract considering that he likely signs for more. I initially figured that term would entice him to sign for below market value.
Leafatic:
I definitely wouldn't cycle Bibeau and Sparks as backups next year. Neither (especially Bibeau) is close to ready for any NHL backup time. I do, however, agree with you regarding Pickard. The reason I chose Malcolm Subban is because Tuuka Rask has a NMC so it'll probably be easier to make a trade for Subban than with Colorado for Pickard. The Leafs would probably have to give up a player like Soshnikov or Connor Brown for Pickard. I would still make that trade but it would most likely cost the team more in assets.
With Bozak, I just think the money is hard for any team to take, so instead of retaining any salary, I think the leafs will have to move from their 2nd round for Bozak stance and accept a 3rd. There's no room for Bozak on the Leafs which puts them at a disadvantage when it comes to making trades that include him.
I think Holland can fit in as a depth player for Pitt, and again, we simply don't have room for him since it's very unlikely we're able to move either Michalek, Greening, or Laich in the summer.

I deleted and re-created Lupul and Robidas because they're not real players anymore. I just wanted to emphasize that.
I highly doubt Connor Carrick would sign for that long for that term. If I were to re-do this I would probably give him $1,150,000 over two years.
Which brings me to Martin Marincin. He's great defensively but doesn't put up points which could be used against him during negotiations. I would say he probably gets closer to $1,800,000 than what I've put down, but then again, I could see him signing for a little less than that even.
The Malcolm Subban deal might not be enough but I factored in the upcoming expansion crunch and I sincerely think that all of Leivo, Percy, and Harrington are NHL players. Leivo can score, has size, and fits in with Boston depending on whether they're able to sign Vesey. Percy and Harrington are both depth D. Toronto probably would need to give up a better prospect like Gauthier to make this work (probably) but Sweeney is kinda dumb so yeah.
Pretty OK with everything else. Due to the Las Vegas expansion next year I don't see Toronto adding another defenseman. I think they'll mostly be clearing out a few RFAs, etc.
I also think that Leafs management would be wise to target a younger goalie from a team with an already established #1 like Boston with Subban or Colorado with Calvin Pickard. Put them behind Bernier and let's see what they can do.
