I like to point out the lunacy that gets posted here. That’s exactly what your post is.

Need to add a hefty + to Ehlers, a 3rd ain’t it, chief. Contract status matters.

Then you’re tying up very valuable cap space for no reason. You still have to replace Burns. You can’t do that AND re-sign one of Pesce Skjei. The numbers don’t work.
You seem to have no idea how the Canes are run.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TrippTracy</b></div><div>Basically halves his contract next season and then the cap hit is a million for carolina in 2 years. Not that big of a deal.</div></div>
It is when you’re totally revamping the blueline.
Have you forgotten how long it takes for a defender to adapt to RBA’s system? Some sort of continuity is a must for next season, especially on the right side.
Buying out Burns would be a horrible waste of cap space.

He only has 1 more year left. A buyout would be spread over 2 seasons. Makes tons more sense to just ride out the current contract.

They won’t use a 1st to dump Kotkaniemi. If they can’t find a taker for him, the buyout is much more palatable

1 yr of Ehlers doesn’t sniff that sort of value.
Buying out Burns is absurd.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Waffelz</b></div><div>A 1st might be a stretch, but I don't see the Sharks taking him on for free. Nearly $5m/yr for 5 more years is a tough pill to swallow for a guy scoring less than 40 points.</div></div>
A buyout would be more likely than them ponying up a 1st to be rid of him. Some team, not necessarily SJ, might still see some worth there. He is still quite young. Adding him for free while still having the option to buy him out at 1/3 his contract (if it doesn’t work out) for another yr or so might be a risk a GM is willing to take.
Bad contracts are moved almost every offseason it seems.

The team that signs Guentzel at 9.5M-10M+ for 7-8yrs will regret it. Look to Scheifele and Miller. 30yr olds who got $8M, also centers. Guentzel may get around 8-8.5M at max term, but I highly doubt any team is going to sign up to pay him $10M a year til he’s 37-38.

The Necas proposal assumes the Canes “have to “ trade Necas, they don’t. And if they did, they surely could do much better than that dreck of an offer.

Skjei is very likely going to price himself out of Raleigh. Guentzel will be 30. Keeping Jarvis is a given.
It’s more likely they retain Necas and Jarvis than sign 2 30yr olds to max term deals. They certainly have the cap space to make that happen.

They likely gonna need to trade away or letting go somes players in that list. They can't keep all of them, and don't expect somes bridge or friendly deal for them.</div></div>
They don’t “need” to sign ALL of those players. They’ll finally have reason to tap into their prospect pool and fill a few spots with young players on ELCs.
Again, if Necas only costs $6.5M, there’s no reason for CAR to let him go.

I’ll stick with awful as that’s what it is.
Necas, to me, gets a Fiala-like return if traded.
