Realistic
Nashville's needs are RD and C. We would not trade a RD for a wing when we have plenty of prospects in the minors who could come up if needed.
As a side note no one should be trading for a smaller winger with an injury history who has yet to play a full season.

You're not getting Evangelista out of Nashville. That would be like you all trading Knies. He's one of the few young players we have on the roster who is contributing regularly

Preds retooling
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jonesey07</b></div><div>Hard to say what Fabbro's true value is. He had trouble sticking in our lineup this season and it's not exactly a deep unit. He may need to move on to unleash his potential somewhere else.
Demelo would be brought in to give a bonified 1st pairing with Josi. Let's face it, we only have 3-5 more years with this "core" being in a place to win.</div></div>
If a fourth was all Trotz could get for Fabbro he wouldn't trade him. Similar to what happened to Carrier this year.
DeMelo just had his best statistical season. Even still his underlying metrics weren't mind blowing. He's not a 1-2 defenseman. He's a 3-4 who just happened to compliment Morrissey well. He's not the solution on the top pair because we don't need more 30 year old defensemen who are only going to decline. Look at Luke Schenn and Ryan McDonagh. By the end of the series people were calling for Barrie to be in the lineup over Schenn, and McDonagh had some of the worst turnovers in the series.
We need to find a young RD who will develop and potentially be around after Josi retires. People need to stop looking at being a contender or winning the Cup like a window that opens or closes based on how a core is performing. Because there's layers to building a competitive roster and winning a championship. One of the layers is finding defensemen who will be the future of the franchise once the guys currently on the roster retire

Preds retooling
I think Fabbro has more worth than a fourth. Not to mention you've simply replaced him with DeMelo who isn't what we need. We need a reliable young RD who we can develop. DeMelo would be a fine stop gap, but he's over 30 and you've signed him until he's 36. It makes more sense to keep Fabbro if we need a stopgap and then focus on drafting a RD this year or trading for one

At that price Nashville would probably take that and flip Marner to another team

We absolutely would not have taken Pettersson. Love him as a player and hope he figures it out, but we would've taken Hughes, Boeser, or Miller

One of Barry Trotz's first moves as a GM was to get two overpaid centers off the roster. He will not double back and trade for two different overpaid players

Evangelista is probably untouchable. Nashville declines.
Marner is not a fit for Nashville in a trade. We'd have to give up too much to get him, and the money he'd ask for in an extension would be too much. Plus why would we extend a guy who is a ghost in the playoffs before he plays a game for us, when our issue this year was scoring in the playoffs.
Maybe Nashville goes after him if he hits free agency, but trading for him wouldn't fit how Trotz has gone about his first year as GM

Mitch Marner is worth more than you think
He's really not. Lackluster playoffs, a very non-physical style of hockey, and his astronomical cap hit make his value much lower than you think. No one is denying he's a good player. But the biggest knock on his value is he's not a playoff performer, which until he proves otherwise will reduce how much he's worth in a trade.
As a side note, Nashville wouldn't trade Askarov for that pick unless it was number 1. The consensus seems to be Askarov is about to make the leap to the NHL and Saros will be the odd man out and may be traded at the draft

Maybe marner
Marner isn't worth all of that. I mean he is worth something like that value wise, but as a team that needs someone who can clutch up in the playoffs. He's not someone the Preds should consider for that price.
Also Molendyk is about as untouchable as a prospect could be for Nashville. They almost signed him to an entry level deal last year, and Trotz and Brunette seem very high on him.

On top of that Cowan and Evangelista played in London together for a brief time, so there is already a relationship between two players that would make the transition a bit easier.</div></div>
Which is why I don't think they're a good partner. I don't see any world in which they trade Cowan or any of their other young prospects with upside because their pool has been depleted so badly

If any goaltender is getting moved from Nashville it will be Saros. No interest in Marner from Nashville's perspective. We need more quality at Center and at RD, and Toronto doesn't seem like a good fit as a trade partner

Tolvanen Back to Nashville
You're smoking crack if you think Nashville would give up picks for a guy we lost on waivers a few years back. It sucks we lost him for nothing and he's a good player, but Nashville has younger guys already in the system who fit Tolvy's mold. Kemell being the main guy I'm talking about. No sense in trading for Tolvy when we have Kemell in the wings waiting for his chance

We need a serious navy alternate. I don't know why it hasn't happened yet. Every fan I've talked too about it loves the silver, white and navy jerseys from the 2011-2012 season. I know Gold is our calling card, but switching to Navy and Silver for alternates occasionally would be fun

Hughes gets more support from the rest of his team than Josi does. Not even factoring in he has a better partner in Hronek, who he's consistently played with all year. Josi is probably the only guy in the running who doesn't have that, and his only top forward is Forsberg. VAN has Elias Petterson and JT Miller. It's a close race, but Josi deserves more consideration than he's getting because he carries the load for the Preds dmen

Nightmare scenario - dropping to third
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Emil_Ismo</b></div><div>Moving into the top-3 of any draft would be expensive. I actually based this on a proposals from Montreal fans (one here earlier today, and one I saw one twitter a couple of days ago) with really the only difference being that I removed a prospect going to the Sharks that they included in theirs.</div></div>
No offense to the fan that posted that, but that's a bad proposal. I'd love to hear the reasoning for paying that much to move up 3 spots in a draft where at 6OA you might be able to get someone like Eiserman, Silayev, Buium, Parekh, Catton, or Dickinson all depending on who falls. Moving into the top 3 is expensive, but not that expensive when the draft is deep at a couple of positions all in the top 15.

Nightmare scenario - dropping to third
Gonna be honest here. This draft is pretty deep up to about 13, and outside of Celebrini and Levshunov all of the guys behind them could go in any order depending on how each team views them.
What I'm getting at is you're not getting that package to move down from 3OA to 6OA. Maybe a team further down would give up serious capital, but I'm talking about moving from outside the top 10 to get to 3. Other than something like that happening, you're not returning 3 extra assets to move up 3 spots.

That package you're sending Nashville doesn't get you Forsberg. Let alone Saros, Parssinen, and a 1st this year. I can't tell if the first offer was serious and the rest was a troll or if this whole thing was a drug fueled brain dump by a fan who is disappointed team won't be making the playoffs in a year they should have.

The Day After The Shanaplan
Nashville declines. Marner is going to be a UFA and as nice as he is, swapping Saros for Marner doesn't help the Preds in any way. We don't know what Askarov will be in the NHL yet. And until we do Saros still has a ton of value to the Preds, and we would require something coming back in the trade that we can project how it will work on the roster going forward. I think Marner is overpaid. I think he'll be overpaid on his next contract, because he's already getting paid so much so why would he take a paycut. He's just not a fit for the retooling Preds if we get rid of Saros. Not even covering the fact that Evangelista is probably as close to untouchable as anyone not named Forsberg or Josi could be.

Nashville would decline. A very late first and a wing prospect we don't need isn't enough to move Saros when he's still our starter. Askarov may look promising and should probably look to get starts in 2024-25, but Saros is still the starter and the team is trying to be competitive. It would have to be a better prospect or a higher pick to entice Nashville to move Saros.

Every piece Nashville is sending in the trade for KK is worth more to Nashville than KK and his awful contract. I don't see why or how you thought that was fair value for a guy who hasn't proven he can be a capable middle six center, but is still getting paid almost 5 mil a year.

Lauzon has more value than Reilly and the difference is more than a 4th. Some teams probably view Reilly as more of a cap dump whereas Lauzon is on a great contract and one of the best physical defensemen in the league this year.
Easy pass for Nashville unless there's a much better pick coming our way

If cap isn't a thing I'd have McDonagh over Schenn and Nyquist and Evangelista somewhere, but it's not like it really matters. I mean how many are you gonna score on a tandem of Saros and Hellebuyck. This is the best combo by far.
