Embrace the Slow
I don't think the Caps will embrace the slow, although, I do like your thoughts here anyway. Pavelski for one year is not a bad idea at all while waiting for Leonard next April hopefully. Pavelski scores, and the Caps need more of those, come hell or high water.

He won't come to the Caps, I agree. I think he could/should get the same contract and not a 'home town discount' like a lot of us fans always expect. BUT, I would dance a jig if he signed here...;)

Washington basically gave Ovi that contract knowing he was chasing the goal record even though they were probably going to start rebuilding during it. Tampa probably isn't rebuilding in the next 5 years</div></div>
I don't either. I was just (clumsily) showing that Stamkos should/could get the same monies.

Thanks. My overall point is in fact what you think, thanks. I don't think these players (Reinhart, Stamkos) would come to the Caps and would not expect them to consider DC sadly.

This makes no sense</div></div>
Well, you got me there but I was comparing it in relation to those who might want/go for Marner instead. He would be had only for a boatload I think.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SociallyHawkward</b></div><div>He only has value if he's retained. Which is why I'd be happy for Chicago to pick up the Tavares tab for future considerations then flip him at the deadline half retained. At 11 mil he is 100% a cap dump. Arizona is gone. Actual nhl teams aren't taking an 11 mil cap hit from a 60 point player no matter how cheap his actual salary is.</div></div>
Good points. Do you or anyone who's posted here think Tavares will be traded somehow this offseason or not? I am genuinely interested now if this happens or not.

Well, if they could get this done without a first going, of course. Would love that.

How about. Stamkos for one season at 11m.....now. that would be "star" power.</div></div>
I mean, I'd love that of course but no way the top FA come to Washington. Years ago they might have but not now. Caps might just stay the normal course and add a player or three and make their draft pick and I'm fine with that but this might be an option they consider.

But it's only for 1 year. It is a risk but if it works and gets Ovi the record, ideally, then the Caps could move forward with a rebuild the year after. If it fails, oh well. Teams sometimes make moves that fail. No guarantees.

Caps send 4 million for 2 years of Jensen in my trade. You need to consider that also.

If Caps org thinks the goals record is very, very important (and I think they do), this would be a fair risk for the Caps. He would actually be the leading scorer on the team also which is wild.

Offseason moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RazWild</b></div><div>Ooooh, a whole whopping THREE more points in FIVE MORE GAMES PLAYED. Points aren't the end all be all, and JEE blows Strome away by being a complete 200ft Selke caliber player while Strome isn't.
JEE not only has a higher PPG, but has a higher Net rating than Strome does. Not too mention perceived market value.
JEE:
NR -- +16
GP -- 77
G -- 30
A -- 34
P -- 64
PPG -- .83
TOI -- 20:31
Market Value -- $10.1M
Strome:
NR -- +10
GP -- 82
G -- 27
A -- 40
P -- 67
PPG -- .82
TOI -- 17:57
Market Value -- $7.6M
JEE also wins in terms of face off wins, in both Corsi and Fenwick, and PDO. All while playing against stiffer competition and having less offensive zone starts than Strome.
He's frankly put, a much better player.
But here, don't take my word for it.
https://frozenpool.dobbersports.com/frozenpool_compare.php?players%5B%5D=4414&players%5B%5D=4195&period=2023-2024%3AR%3A99</div></div>
I have to agree. I am glad the center starved Caps essentially got a very good center for free. JEE, to me, along with Kaprozov are Minnys untouchables. Of all the players they might move for whatever reasons, JEE is certainly not one. He is a complete player and excellent.

Realistic Rebuild 2
I wouldn't mind DuClair or also maybe Terovainen or even Bertuzzi because I see no way the Caps can pull a real Top 6 forward either by signing or trades honestly. I would keep Bear but move out a bigger salary like Jensen or TVR. Ironically about Nashville from NoVaSpartan, I would like to see them sign their defensive free agent Carrier. Big RHD for 2nd or 3rd pair minutes, not sure. Caps need a little more size and grit but mostly a skill upgrade on the forward lines.

Late but next year with no Leonard
I prefer no trades because they will want a 1st usually (when acquiring player is very, very good) and would have to send them a prospect (which Caps should not do) also. I say sign one of Teravainen, Bertuzzi. Maybe even Mantha on a 2 yr 4 mil type deal. That's it for me, otherwise, plod thru it next season and welcome Leonard next April...;)
