Offseason moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RazWild</b></div><div>Ooooh, a whole whopping THREE more points in FIVE MORE GAMES PLAYED. Points aren't the end all be all, and JEE blows Strome away by being a complete 200ft Selke caliber player while Strome isn't.
JEE not only has a higher PPG, but has a higher Net rating than Strome does. Not too mention perceived market value.
JEE:
NR -- +16
GP -- 77
G -- 30
A -- 34
P -- 64
PPG -- .83
TOI -- 20:31
Market Value -- $10.1M
Strome:
NR -- +10
GP -- 82
G -- 27
A -- 40
P -- 67
PPG -- .82
TOI -- 17:57
Market Value -- $7.6M
JEE also wins in terms of face off wins, in both Corsi and Fenwick, and PDO. All while playing against stiffer competition and having less offensive zone starts than Strome.
He's frankly put, a much better player.
But here, don't take my word for it.

I have to agree. I am glad the center starved Caps essentially got a very good center for free. JEE, to me, along with Kaprozov are Minnys untouchables. Of all the players they might move for whatever reasons, JEE is certainly not one. He is a complete player and excellent.

Realistic Rebuild 2
I wouldn't mind DuClair or also maybe Terovainen or even Bertuzzi because I see no way the Caps can pull a real Top 6 forward either by signing or trades honestly. I would keep Bear but move out a bigger salary like Jensen or TVR. Ironically about Nashville from NoVaSpartan, I would like to see them sign their defensive free agent Carrier. Big RHD for 2nd or 3rd pair minutes, not sure. Caps need a little more size and grit but mostly a skill upgrade on the forward lines.

Late but next year with no Leonard
I prefer no trades because they will want a 1st usually (when acquiring player is very, very good) and would have to send them a prospect (which Caps should not do) also. I say sign one of Teravainen, Bertuzzi. Maybe even Mantha on a 2 yr 4 mil type deal. That's it for me, otherwise, plod thru it next season and welcome Leonard next April...;)

If someone wants Patches now for their playoff run, they have to take him full price. Caps used all 3 slots already on Mantha, Edmundson, Kuznetzov. I still think he gets traded here soon but what do I know...;)

Jensen rumor
What was the question Friedman was answering? You could take this to mean, 'before they signed Lybushkin (or however you spell it) I heard (past tense) Nick Jensen was (past tense) kind of a name they were (past tense) looking at'. If I'm way off here, great but again, what question was he asked that gave him that response?

I would eat my winter hat if they get any first rounders for any of these guys. I could see it if we send a pick ourselves or take a bum off their roster though. I would take these returns and be happy with them. I see it as a step in the right direction and the team can still be competitive now and next year with other changes. I am hoping GMBM pulls a young one off a roster again like last year...

To me, it would have to be a nice return (2nd or higher?) otherwise I'd say keep him at least until this time next year then sell.

Yep, that's exactly right. I hope BM is deft enough to find a young up and comer like he did with Sandin like we are all hoping. But if it's not available, I think enhancing the roster like this without getting rid of the few good prospects and 1st rounder would be a big win. Again, I think it would be some goodwill to the team without mortgaging top assets.

If they are going to trade for somethig it needs to be like a Sandin; a young skilled player that will be here for awhile.
And Bear is great, don't send him anywhere. Not his fault he's paired with useless Edmundson. Trade Edmundson.
Also Kuz counts as LTIR so you can open up a ton of space with that. And sounds like Oshie will be headed there soon as well.</div></div>
But it took a level of player like Orlov (with Hathaway) to get that 1st rounder to then trade. I don't think we have any guys to move that would get a 1st.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Black61</b></div><div>Habs arent spending a 2nd to acquire a pending ufa. Thats beyond stupid</div></div>
I think you need to read CF67 last sentence again. His opinion states that 'Habs could sign Mantha if they wanted him after the season'. Then he says 'he's not going to the Habs' inferring that 'If they wanted to, they could try but it's not happening'. Then he says 'the trade is terrible for Washington'. It is because they would be getting only a decent 4th liner to replace a 20 -25 goal scorer. This is in fact, not a good move for Washington. Then he gives the opinion that most of us share that if he's going to be moved that 50% retained to get a 2nd rounder back is a good trade. I don't think he was saying that's what Montreal would/should give. It's the deal that should be made, but not to Habs.

In the Playoffs at Deadline
For myself, I'd rather have the player over a 4th and 5th round pick. This is his first full year as a Capital and I think he can grow a bit more. He is also (although he hasn't shown it as much yet) a good hitter and will fight too. I just think he's not on the table to trade but good job on you to notice him. ;)

Trying to keep it realistic
Think Edmonton deal is wrong. Dowd won’t get a 1st ,but a 2nd. I don’t think the Caps move Lindgren either. The Kings one is off too. Caps would have to either give a different prospect or a higher pick, or even both. The other trades look pretty good though.

Modest retool to try and qualify
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>brady_t12</b></div><div>This team is definitely not making the playoffs at this point. This run they've been on of late has cemented that. Rentals shouldn't be targets, and I think Lapierre should not be moved unless it is in a package for a young player who can make an impact.</div></div>
Ok well then a lesser prospect in that Dumba trade then...I just think this kind of buying I have here, wouldn't kill the picks and prospects pool. And if you don't make the playoffs you can still draft high and do things in the summer to make one more run in September. Or you can continue to move guys and add young pieces this summer too. I just don't see something like I have here as a disaster if they were to miss the playoffs. They probably do what they did last year, sell some and try to add a young guy and I am fine with that but doing some buying might spark the vets and the coaching staff to another level and it might work out, you never know.
