Marner to Utah
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>I don't think that this works because Utah's new ownership, having just spent $1.2 billion to acquire the franchise, will want Toronto to pay Marner's $7.25 million signing bonus, so there won't be any 2024 draft picks in that deal. That rules out the second trade, so I think that this whole scheme collapses. But let's assume that "in for a penny, in for a pound" applies. In that case, that seems like a lot for the Preds to add on top of Saros, but you're an esteemed Nashville authority, so I'll assume that Saros, Tomasino and a second and a third is worth Vejmelka and a first and a third to you all.</div></div>
I don't know that $7.25M is a deal breaking amount, when you're investing over a billion dollars. Feels more like a rounding error comparatively, but who's to say? It's a bit out of my tax bracket, so I'm hardly an expert in that regard.
I do feel NSH is giving up more than necessary here. I was trying to mindful about not being too biased in NSH's favour, so I was purposely over generous. Assuming NSH is okay with trading Saros, and taking a step back for a year or two, nothing else they're giving up here is irreplaceable.

If NSH were to trade for Marner, it's not realistic to think they'd add him and a cap dump, without sending any salary out.

MARNER TO NASHVILLE WITH ASKAROV TAKING THE HELM AS TEAM STARTER
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AntiAnalytics</b></div><div>I don’t have ANY “biased views” on Saros
/quote]
This three page tantrum you had because no one accepted your junk offer for Saros, indicates otherwise:
https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/4914987
Your argument that any team would obviously throw a huge extension at Marner, but wouldn't think of extending Saros is flawed. 30 isn't old for a goalie. Money is a legitimate concern for owners, and cap space is a legitimate concern for GMs. Marner is already eating up a huge amount of both, and presumably would want more on an extension. A top goalie provides more on ice value than a top winger (and at a lower cost too). There are numerous reasons a team might choose to invest in Saros over Marner.
I can randomly scream these things in ALL CAPS, if that helps (I'm guessing you think it does).</div></div>

MARNER TO NASHVILLE WITH ASKAROV TAKING THE HELM AS TEAM STARTER
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AntiAnalytics</b></div><div>1- bc Marner is younger & better
2- NSH would be STUPID if they didn’t do this (assuming they don’t mind paying Marner)
Getting a player of Marner's caliber, when the main piece coming back is an aging & declining goalie, would be an absolute steal
And no, I’m not a Leafs’ fan or from Canada
I actually hate the Leafs
Just don’t have any super biased homer views like some obviously do, Lol</div></div>
They're both UFAs, so younger doesn't really mean much over the course of a year (neither player is old enough where you worry about age related decline over the course of the season). I still say treating one player like they're a rental, while pretending the other comes with an extension, does nothing to help assess trade value though.
It's difficult to compare goalies and skaters, but of the two Saros was definitely better in the post-season, for what that's worth.
Yeah, giving Marner that huge new contract probably is a point of concern for NSH. RW is far from their biggest need, and that money would be better spent on at center and RD. Nyquist can still hold down the fort on the top line for another year. He's already got great chemistry with Forsberg and O'Reilly and he's an absolute bargain for someone who was a top 40 scorer this past season. Looking into the future, NSH has Evangelista, Kemell, Tomasino, Wood, Fink, etc - Marner doesn't really fill a hole for NSH. At least not one that justifies paying him $11M or more, plus giving up whatever assets it would take to trade for him.
You may not be a Leafs fan, but your super biased views on Saros specifically (and goalie value in general) is just as evident as any you may think I have.

NSH probably has to add more imo</div></div>
Why is it "just 1 year of Saros", when Marner is also a UFA at the same time? I know the OP is assuming Marner extends with NSH, but why not just assume Saros extends with TOR then?
Either way, NSH declines. The cost is too high, Evangelista is a no go (and one of the reasons why NSH likely isn't interested in Marner anyway), Hildeby isn't as valuable to NSH as he would be to TOR, as they have Askarov.

If you tell Marner you're refusing to negotiate an extension with him, why would he do you the favour waiving his NMC? I wouldn't do anything to help TOR in that situation, if I were him.

Get some dawgs in here
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AWhiteOreo</b></div><div>Glass is likely a negative asset for the Preds at this stage. Instead, they spend 100k less on a PK specialist that really plays to Nashville's style. Timmins you can take or leave, he's a fairly run of the mill 7th dman with an entirely buriable cap hit.</div></div>
I think Kämpf would be more likely to be seen as a negative asset to NSH than Glass. The Preds need to get younger and produce more offense. Glass is still an option for their middle six. He didn't get much of a chance last season, but neither did other young forwards like Tomasino or Pärssinen. I don't think time has run out on him just yet. Kämpf on the other hand would be a redundancy in NSH, when they already have better bottom six center options in Sissons and McCarron (plus Jankowski and Pärssinen). Kämpf comes with an extra year on his contract too, which is less than ideal. NSH can cut bait on Glass after next season, if they want to.
I'd rather see Stastney and Del Gaizo on the main roster before Timmins, plus his salary isn't<em> entirely</em> buriable, as he's making over a million.
The guys you're sending NSH just have less upside and potential use to them than Glass could.

NSH declines, and I don't imagine Forsberg waives for BUF (going to a non-playoff team, going from a no state tax state to a very high one, his country singer wife presumably would prefer to stay in NSH).
Can't complain about the return though. If NSH did blow it up and Forsberg wanted out, I'd be more than happy with those pieces.

I think it really depends on whether or not NSH is able to re-sign Carrier. If they can't, Fabbro and Schenn would be the only right hand shots left on NSH's backend.

Draft
I think you're giving up too much to move up two spots in draft. If Trotz wanted to move up at that point, using draft capital is probably the better way to go. CHI isn't going to want roster pieces, unless they're vet rentals that will help them get to the salary floor, that they can hopefully flip at the deadline. CHI is still a few years away from trying to improve their on ice roster.
I don't like the idea of trading Lauzon, if it requires tying up the last retention spot for multiple years.
