Trading for 3rd overall pick
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>habs_fan123</b></div><div>I love it! but I would throw in patch and the leafs second and next years and swap hayes for zibinajad</div></div>
I don't think Gorton would trade Zibanejad in any deal. He's too valuable and has too much upside, and the organization seems to be higher on him than Hayes at this point. Also, don't know about Pacioretty fitting in NY right now. Great player and leader of course, but I don't know if he fits in as we are currently rebuilding.
Also, I feel that this deal benefits Montreal greatly because not only will they be adding a top-six center in Hayes and top-nine winger in Namestnikov, they will also be able to select one of either Wahlstrom or Veleno 9th overall - both centermen, and potentially elite at that.

I believe if you trade for him and then sign him <em>before</em> July 1, you can sign him for 8 years. Because even if you've just acquired him at, say, the draft, he's technically still under contract until July 1. Once July 1 hits, though, he's a free agent and can only be signed for 7 years.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BigBeardBurns</b></div><div>The value is ok if Karlsson resigns in Tampa, but the concern is ur Salary Cap after 2019...</div></div>
I was thinking it could work long-term because they would let McDonagh, Stralman, Girardi and Callahan walk at FA, opening up about $18 mil in cap space that can be used to re-sign Karlsson, Point, Sergachev, Dotchin and Vasilevsky. It'd be cutting it pretty close, but maybe they could trade Killorn to free up some space (and promote Erne to the top-six).

BIG sellers at deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AK_tune</b></div><div>Historically speaking, Hank should avoid the Blues like the plague if he's looking to win a cup haha. Oh no now I'm sad... LD and G upgrades would be nice but I doubt the Blues would go this crazy, not to mention it would add about $4M to the cap and we're already sitting at the top of the ceiling.
Plus when you really break it down, I think the Rangers could get more in separate deals for McD and Hank... that's not really a huge return unless you think all of those picks will become NHLers.</div></div>
Haha I thought about that actually. But I thought it could work for the Rangers because even though the picks could be total misses, they need help at center, and Thomas and Thompson are two prospects I could see them being very high on.

If I were the FLA GM, I'd stay away from Petry, and I'd also want to keep Matheson. But Pacioretty is pretty intriguing for the Panthers.

2018-19
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>realOilersGM17</b></div><div>I feel like you hurt the team here.
Sure trade coburn. But you don't need Tanev. Dotchin can play with hedman as I believe he will continue to grow. I believe Tampa would resign Stralman.
Johnson gives you better forward depth and I believe if you did need a red then you could trade for a younger d man to replace Stralman at his retirement.</div></div>
The Tanev trade is mostly because I don't think TBL would be able to re-sign Stralman. He's getting older and I think he would command a lot more than what Tanev is under contract for (for two more years, too). Plus, they don't even have to re-sign Tanev when his deal is up either. By 2020-21, when his deal expires, I'm sure Cal Foote would be ready to pencil in on the second D pair behind Dotchin. It's all about cap space, really.
As for Johnson, that definitely does hurt the team but it was mostly for cap space. He can't be your third line center forever, and especially not at that cap hit/term.

A good starting centre with a very good contract, one year of Gardiner plus two other pieces.</div></div>
There's only one D in the Hanifin trade (Gardiner), the other two I traded away because there was too much depth. Hainsey is not a long-term solution or even necessary to be honest, and Carrick seems to be on his way out with guys like Liljegren, Borgman, Rosen and Dermott all coming up.

McDonagh
To be fair, I can see the Rangers trading McDonagh next year at the deadline if there are no playoffs in sight, because I believe they will not be re-signing him after next season. But can't see them trading him this year, and especially can't see them taking on Petry's contract.

I don't think they're looking to trade Ekholm anymore, especially since they just traded Sam Girard and they have virtually no other left-handed D in the system. Maybe they'd give up Dante Fabbro, though.

Three-Way Deal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JQuick32</b></div><div>Why does NSH send that to COL? The main team in the 3 way was OTT, because if they were to acquire Duchene they would need to move Turris, meaning NSH isn't involved with COL.</div></div>
COL trades Duchene to OTT; OTT trades Turris to NSH; NSH trades Kamenev, Fabbro, 1st to COL.
Complete cycle of the three-way deal.
They reported that a three-way deal was being worked on, not two two-way deals with Ottawa involved in each. Besides, I don't think OTT would have much to offer COL for Duchene, and I don't think NSH would have much to offer OTT for Turris (assuming the two two-way deals scenario took place).

Skjei means too much to NYR right now... McDonagh is going to be gone by the end of 2018-19 season and he will be our number one D. Can't trade him for a third liner in Gallagher and a low third round pick.
