At that people from your own fan base are saying we could get Holtz in this deal - that’s a pretty decent deal for yall in that regard</div></div>
A 4th, 100% a 4th.
Bottom 6 depth is one of NJDs big weaknesses. Lazar was the only forward we had (other than McLeod before he left) who could play that defensive shutdown 4th line role at a high level. Cant let him go

Who knows
There are so many easy deals with the Bruins and Devils. Why do people try to complicate it?
My guess is it’s built around the 2025 1st
Maybe Seamus Casey or Alex Holtz if they get offered something in 2024 that they like more than the 2035 1st

Coach Keefes Devils
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Celtics21</b></div><div>Holtz is an odd situation. Talentwise, he’s likely better than the 22nd pick in this draft. That said, two coaches struggled to play him consistently and he’s in the last year of his ELC.
I question his fit and having two prospects with high ability and a questionable fit (Lysell) seems like something a team who doubles down on fit isn’t likely to do,
If a trade with NJ happens, my guess is it includes a top 12 protected 2025 pick and other considerations. That could be best by a team offering a viable proven player or a 2024 pick.</div></div>
Lindy had a bug up his rear on Holtz...and rarely played him anywhere but 4th line.
He had some rookie mistakes, but the sentence did not fit the crime.
His points-per-minute were very strong. Just needs to work on little things.
There are plenty of teams asking about Holtz.

Domi would be good as C/W. I don’t know what Brodie would bring. Don’t know a ton about Kampf. Liljegren has Jersey roots. Kerfoot was drafted by NJD.
I’m just guessing here.

I think Holtz for Colton….Ranta for Foote…is more how the math works. Foote plus pick works too.
Will be interesting if next coach puts Mercer at 3C or on wing. I could see them putting him between two stout, speedy guys on wing.

From Chaos to Order

He has good personal reasons to want to be in New Jersey. He’s childhood friends with the Hughes brothers, his partner is from New Jersey and Tom Fitzgerald is his uncle I believe.
If Brady Tkachuk asks for a trade, NJD and FLA will be his two preferred destinations. Brady Tkachuk is not a need for the roster at this time. I’ll wait for the price to come down. OTT fans are overvaluing their player. They really need to take a look in the mirror; the core they value so much has not even played in a single playoff game. They clearly need to make changes but none of their fans wants to move off a major piece of the lineup.</div></div>
(And he lives in New Jersey)

I would center a trade around any of the high priced pieces tho
Hamilton, Bratt, or Meier.
But a trade like that would be pointless for Ottawa

Getting a Goalie and Mcleod Replacement
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gio</b></div><div>Idk I think a 5th is pretty fair value all things considered. He only had 13 points this season and has never eclipsed 30 in his career. Not to mention hes going to be turning 30 next year and will be a UFA at the end of next season. Maybe have NJD add a guy from the AHL or something of that sort if the Sharks decline this. Obviously we aren't grabbing him for his offensive game, but still.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Smitty426</b></div><div>Yeah I had him at Bastian and a 3rd, and I'm ok with that. Some SJ fans think more but I think this is close. Then go get a speedy 4th liner with some snot</div></div>
What this guy offered is more accurate, he's not a guy whos gunna score points, he had like a top 5 faceoff season which in my eyes is worth something.

Can Boston fans stop pretending that Ullmark has the same value as Mercer?
Can Jersey fans stop pretending that Mercer has the same value as Swayman?
I’d offer Ullmark and our 2025 first for Mercer, but would fully expect Jersey to say no and counter. There are probably half a dozen possible trades that could work for Ullmark.
I don’t believe Sweeney even engages in discussions for Swayman especially now. Unless the objective is to stop discussions and have them focus on other teams, the continued mention of Swayman likely isn’t going to create a positive outcome

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Smitty426</b></div><div>In your eyes Bast what does retention price look like? I am just trying to gauge what CGY fans see as the value.</div></div>
It's very hard for me to gauge because I've seen Marky play great for the entire season. That said, he was terrible in the last year under Sutter.
I see something like Markstrom (50%) + VAN 24’(29th) for NJD 24'(10th). Or simply Marky for a mid first perhaps.
Other Flames fans value him more. I also think that he had the most value in the middle of this season for 3 seasons of Marky at $3M... I would've expected a good young player + 1st for that.

And yes you're going on what he <strong>might</strong> be but there is no history that says he's going to be Shesty or Vasy. Sure you want an add to feel like the guy you develop has more value, we can do that. Its just not a Holtz, Mercer type player. I know what the reply will be, but hey a 10th OA is not worth nothing.</div></div>
No, obviously 10OA isn't nothing. Is it not less of a sure thing than Askarov though? There's no telling who'll be available at that spot, and how whoever gets picked at that spot develops is a bigger unknown than Askarov is now.
Like <a href="/users/herzausstein" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@herzausstein</a>, I think NSH should move on from Saros and keep Askarov. I'm not interested in this proposal overall (even though I'd love to have Casey), so maybe I'm biased. I do think the value is considerably tilted in NJ's favour though.

Leafs Next Year
At least 2 of the 5 pieces with most value in that Marner trade come from the Devils side of things (Mercer and #10).
I would think that Marner, between his cap hit and NMC, would fetch something closer to what Taylor Hall went for when traded to Boston a few years back - 2nd + roster player / prospect.
