Bruins 2023-24
I don’t see either team doing this deal. Tweaks are important, but Moore’s long term contract is pretty valuable.
On a side note, Lysell is likely to dwarf the potential of any player available at the Kings pick. He’s performing at the AHL level and the only reason he fell was concerns that he wasn’t going to play a team oriented game. Trading him after his improvement in that area is flat out nuts. He still has some work to do, but he’s a high potential player who won’t net a pick high enough to justify trading him.
This deal isn’t it if it happens between the two teams

buyout
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Celtics21</b></div><div>What is this buyout of PLD nonsense? I realize there was an Athletic article, but there is a lot of stupid stuff in the Athletic.</div></div>
its a lot cheaper to buy him out this season and the cost isn't even that much relative to how much they would have to pay if they decide to buy him out lets say in a year or two as no one would be wiling to trade for him unless it comes with a solid retention which would cost the Kings more over the long run.

Next Year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Celtics21</b></div><div>Can Boston fans stop pretending that Ullmark has the same value as Mercer?
Can Jersey fans stop pretending that Mercer has the same value as Swayman?
I’d offer Ullmark and our 2025 first for Mercer, but would fully expect Jersey to say no and counter. There are probably half a dozen possible trades that could work for Ullmark.
I don’t believe Sweeney even engages in discussions for Swayman especially now. Unless the objective is to stop discussions and have them focus on other teams, the continued mention of Swayman likely isn’t going to create a positive outcome</div></div>
At deadline, Sweeney (or third team) tried pulling NJD into three-way deal with Ullmark. Fitzy instead asked about Swayman and was told to pound sand. I'm glad he asked.
For me, as a fan, I think an unsigned Swayman for an unsigned Mercer is a reasonable price....considering one of those guys went through arbitration last year, was expected to extend in January, and has spoken publicly about how hurtful a process that was. The other is expected to entertain team-friendly deal.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Smitty426</b></div><div>Most of us over here agree with the above</div></div>
Only me.
Once Swayman extends, I don't think Mercer-for-Swayman would be much of an option. Until then, probably fair game...
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gofnut999</b></div><div>An Oilers fan made this post. Was not a Bruins fan. Very few B’s fans make Ullmark for Mercer posts.</div></div>
Been a few...
...also been Ullmark for Hischier.
The most realistic is probably 2025 pick for Ullmark (done after July 1st).

Draisaitl trade for fun - Boston POV
All I can say is bruins will not be taking back 2 cap dumps. Sure to ceci he can fill a bottom pair role for 1 season but you can kick rocks on campbell and find someone else to take him or buy him out yourself.
Broberg/ Ceci/ Drai you got a deal doubt Boston retains on anyone outside of Ullmark aswell

2024-2025 Roster Possibilities
Boston isn't strained for cap and Jersey isn't the only team looking for a goalie. They have 25 mil in cap space (with <5 of that going to Swayman). Ullmark for a 2nd doesn't move the needle enough to not just keep him through the end of the deal. If a team wants a year of Ullmark plus negotiating priority through July 2025, it's more.

i think you actually made it worse. McAvoy is worth 10x what a year of Marner is. The only thing in Toronto that could get McAvoy just scored 69 goals, and the leafs aren't trading him.

well, he's not the best player in the NHL...I also think you really misunderstood this point.
The only thing in Toronto that could get McAvoy is Matthews - that's just true. no point in discussing it. McAvoy is the bruins best player and he's on an awesome long term contract. he's not moving
Likewise, Toronto wouldn't move Matthews for McAvoy.
Both of those statements can be, and are in fact, true.

Those are the two I’d target in a trade for Ullmark. I’d also think there would be a preference on a 2024 pick vs a 2025 pick.
If the offer is as suggested, Boston keeps Ullmark

I'd personally do it but I can almost guarantee the NJD front office wouldn't. Unfortunately, based on him going unqualified and then unsigned, he either asked for an opportunity elsewhere, or someone/some people in the NJD front office/coaching staff isn't high on him at all
But every shift of Tierney/Bastian/Nosek/Willman/Macdermid makes me question what we were thinking by not bringing him back.
NJD 4th line has been horrific outside of when they were being carried by McLeod

He’ll be at the likely minimum next year. I think someone would claim him, but OK with that if it means Heinen is still on the team and someone like Lysell is getting a shot higher in the lineup

ullmark and more
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Celtics21</b></div><div>Johansson is interesting. He’s older for a prospect, but he is a good AHL D man with talent.
My guess is if they are offering only a 2025 second, I’d want Wallinder or Mazur at a minimum</div></div>
But he seems to be projected as bottom pairing, if he makes it at all. He also lacks size, which the Bruins FO seem to be convinced is the most important factor in giving out contracts on the backend.
The market will ultimately decide what the return is, but as far as filling Bruins needs goes, this is basically just a 2nd rounder to downgrade from Ullmark to Vejmelka and an increase in ~2.25m in cap space. It also makes a division rival better. I think they can find a better value contract to backup Swayman that gives them more cap space to improve the team now and still get a 2nd elsewhere. If Detroit was willing to retain Vejmelka down to about 1.5m (giving the B's an additional ~1.25m to work with), I'd listen.

Nothing crazy
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gofnut999</b></div><div>But do for 2 to 2.5 less and 2 less years?
The most recent comparison for contract is Horvat who got 8.5 extension after trade. Very similar value player. Bo better goal scorer, Elias better defender.</div></div>
You can also put in Scheifele as a comparison at 7 years, 8.5m AAV. To me, that’s reflected with the 1.5M AAV discount to accommodate for Lindholm’s poor play this year. I personally believe Elias is signing for no less than 6.75 and probably no higher than 7.5M
From my perspective, I want one premium player whether it be Lindholm, Hanifin, or Guentzel while resigning Heinen and picking up an older defenseman like OEL.
I guess you could do DeBrusk or Stephenson and Skjei, but I think those guys might get inflated in the second tier of free agency. Not sure it will be a straight swap in salary. I’d rather have DeBrusk than Stephenson at this point in their careers

The future
Carlo isn't "stuck behind" McAvoy. He's a 2nd pairing D and he has such tremendous value to Boston because he's perfectly suited for that role and is being paid at a team friendly rate. They also see him as part of the leadership group, hence him wearing the A on multiple occasions including Winter Classics in the past.
As covered by others here, Boston isn't in a cap pinch. They'll have plenty to go after a Lindholm if they choose to
