So Much Talent and a Highly Unconventional Deal
If that package got Crouse to Anaheim, I'd be open to it, but I doubt it realistically would. That being said, my Norwegian ancestry is hoping the Ducks use that pick as part of a package to move up into the teens to pick Michael Brandsegg-Nygard. The more I see of him in the WCs, the more I want him in Anaheim.

I would love to have Lawson Crouse, who is undervalued by many fans of most teams east of the Mississippi, but I don't think that gets him.

Awful deal for Utah. That late 1st is already not enough for Crouse, and the Strome deal is bad. 5mil until 2027 for a brutal defensive player who doesn't score goals, or create offense at a high level.

Next Year with No Ridiculous Blow Ups or Rantanen Trades
Unless I’m mistaken Nichushkin is the first guy ever to be in the 3rd phase and his suspension is for 6 months at which time he can apply for reinstatement. He is going to have to show a level of being clean he hasn’t come close to showing given that he has had arguably 3 incidents in the last 14 months. I think the league and the Avs mandate closer to 9 months if not a year of clean screens before he would be considered for reinstatement. Regardless I don’t see how he plays next year for the Avs. Maybe in 25-26.

Avs would decline simply with what has happened with Nichushkin. As @Anus_Mcleod says, a week or so ago it would have been a maybe. Now.....not so much.

I think Marner earned the crap when he signed the big contract and the way his agent and dad talk. NO Team discount NO leeway
If he was at $9,5 everyone on this board would be talking about how good he is at both ends of the rink etc.

Yeah, the whole Nuke thing really puts the team in a tough spot. A return in November isn't so far into the season that you could count on using his cap hit on another player; at least not a significant portion of it.
Is Landy supposed to be ready to come back next season?

He'll be eligible to come back about a month into the season, so say roughly 15% of his cap hit is off the books. So you'd need around 5 million to bring him back.

Avs fans summoning their inner-leaf and trading away one of their key players bc he only has...a PPG pace in the playoffs.
Idk, it's insane and it'll settle down in about a month when the avs extend him.

Honestly, the Devils would be committing highway robbery if they got Mikko for this package. Needless to say, the answer is yes.

The Avs just won the Cup two years ago....
They just lost their leading goal scorer for the rest of the playoffs.
Their best player is finally getting paid what he's worth, limiting the amount of help they can bring in to supplement him.
The coach isn't the problem here.

I can't understate how brutal of a take this entire post is.
Let's start with the most wild. Trading Rantanen for a bunch of okay. Rantanen is coming off back to back 100 point seasons, a perennial 40-50 goal, and player, and he's got 12 points in 9 games these playoffs. Even against Dallas, who is difficult to score on at their worst, he has 3 points in 4 games. That is fine. His defensive lapses can be outweighed by the offense. Marino and Mercer are fine, but no where close to Rantanen's value in a trade. You're looking at Eichel territory (a 1st, quality roster player, high end prospect, plus a pick), if not a bit more. Let's also just ignore that Marino is unnecessary in this trade if the Avs just hold onto Girard.
Next up, the Merzlikins trade and buyout. Just, why? Nichuskinen will either have his contract terminated, or a team will be willing to take a chance on him while giving up nothing in return. And if neither happens, he will still be a quality player for the Avs. There is no point in trading him for a couple picks and buying out a goalie that will cost the team millions over their entire window. The Avs will most likely not have to pay anything to move Val, definitely not that much.
Signing Samsonov and Ned, two of the most inconsistent goalies, to fix the inconsistent goalie problem is strange.
Finally, Landeskog is skating. He might even return during these playoffs. I don't see why he would be forced into retirement. Anything can happen of course, but it seems unlikely at this point.

Colton and Manson are players to watch, imo. Some think Girard, but I strongly disagree on that one (unless they somehow get a cheaper player who can immediately replace him)

Avs kinda have it in Malinski & Behrens, which is why people have targeted him. But i agree, honestly.

Bye girard
No interest in taking Englund back, Behrens isn't likely to make the team and definitely wouldn't be top-4 and it is not safe to assume Landy isn't coming back at this time. Also, Girard makes far fewer mistakes than does Manson; I know some people like Manson because he's their one "bruiser" D (plus he's a RH shot) but it would, IMO, be foolish to keep the much older player that makes more mistakes over the younger guy.

Tbh Trenin is really the only one of the 'rentals' I'd have a true interest in keeping. I think someone is still going to get moved in the off season however, unless of course Landy is done.

be a shame to let trenin and duhaime go they round out the bottom nice with their physicality. I think you've got to move one of colton or girard regardless at this point though. The back end is very thin if there's one injury and i donno if ritchie will be ready for 3C duty in a hopefully deep playoff run

Personally I think Manson's experience would be more beneficial to the Sabres than another young (or at least less experienced) player in Kovacevic.

Manson is also old & doesn’t really fit our timeline
And does he even waive to come here???

No, I get it.
Its mostly because Holtz is hated by our GM, current coach, Lindy Ruff! Holtz is not getting a fair shake and should. He's been stuck with plug-ish type line mates and not done bad at all.
I think its a good fit because it seems like there is bit of a cash crunch in CO and a need for some heavier help in Jersey. If I remember correctly you guys gave up a 2nd to get him from Tampa?
So we can get something done, but where is that sweet spot?
